22 LIBER SAMUHELIS II 2 Kings - Wycliffe Bible(14c) 2 Kings - Douay Rheims(17c) Reference

1 Locutus est autem David Domino verba carminis hujus in die qua liberavit eum Dominus de manu omnium inimicorum suorum, et de manu Saul. Forsothe Dauid spak to the Lord the wordis of this song, in the dai in which the Lord delyuerede hym fro the hond of alle hise enemyes, and fro the hond of Saul. And David spoke to the Lord the words of this canticle, in the day that the Lord delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul, David's victory song. 2Sm.22.1-51 | Ps.18
2 Et ait:
Dominus petra mea, et robur meum, et salvator meus.
And Dauid seide,
The Lord is my stoon, and my strengthe, and my sauyour;
And he said:
The Lord is my rock, and my strength, and my saviour.
3 Deus fortis meus: sperabo in eum;
scutum meum, et cornu salutis meæ:
elevator meus, et refugium meum;
salvator meus: de iniquitate liberabis me.
my God, my stronge, I schal hope in to hym;
my scheeld, and the horn of myn helthe,
my reisere, and my refuyt;
my sauyour, thou schalt delyuere me fro wickidnesse.
God is my strong one, in him will I trust:
my shield, and the horn of my salvation:
he lifteth me up, and is my refuge:
my saviour, thou wilt deliver me from iniquity.
4 Laudabilem invocabo Dominum,
et ab inimicis meis salvus ero.
Y schal inwardly clepe the Lord worthi to be preisid;
and Y schal be saaf fro myn enemyes.
I will call on the Lord who is worthy to be praised:
and I shall be saved from my enemies.
5 Quia circumdederunt me contritiones mortis:
torrentes Belial terruerunt me.
For the sorewis of deeth cumpasside me;
the strondis of Belial maden me aferd.
For the pangs of death have sur rounded me:
the floods of Belial have made me afraid.
6 Funes inferni circumdederunt me: prævenerunt me laquei mortis. The coordis of helle cumpassiden me;
the snaris of deeth camen bifor me.
The cords of hell compassed me:
the snares of death prevented me.
7 In tribulatione mea invocabo Dominum,
et ad Deum meum clamabo:
et exaudiet de templo suo vocem meam,
et clamor meus veniet ad aures ejus.
In tribulacioun Y schal clepe,
that is, Y clepide thee, Lord, and Y schal crie to my God;
and he herd fro his holi temple my vois,
and my crye schal come to hise eeris.
In my distress I will call upon the Lord,
and I will cry to my God:
and he will hear my voice out of his temple,
and my cry shall come to his ears.
8 Commota est et contremuit terra; fundamenta montium concussa sunt,
et conquassata: quoniam iratus est eis.
The erthe was mouyd, and tremblide;
the foundementis of hillis weren smytun
and schakun togidere, for the Lord was wrooth to hem.
The earth shook and trembled,
the foundations of the mountains were moved,
and shaken, because he was angry with them.
9 Ascendit fumus de naribus ejus,
et ignis de ore ejus vorabit:
carbones succensi sunt ab eo.
Smoke stiede fro hise nosethirlis,
and fier of his mouth schal deuoure;
colis weren kyndlid of it.
A smoke went up from his nostrils,
and a devouring fire out of his mouth:
coals were kindled by it.
10 Inclinavit cælos, et descendit:
et caligo sub pedibus ejus.
And he bowide heuenes, and cam doun;
and myist vndur hise feet.
He bowed the heavens, and came down:
and darkness was under his feet.
11 Et ascendit super cherubim, et volavit:
et lapsus est super pennas venti.
And he stiede on cherubyn, and fliy;
and he slood on the pennys of wynd.
And he rode upon the cherubims, and flew:
and slid upon the wings of the wind.
12 Posuit tenebras in circuitu suo latibulum,
cribrans aquas de nubibus cælorum.
He puttide derknessis hidyng place in his cumpas,
and riddlide watris fro the cloudis of heuenes;
He made darkness a covering round about him:
dropping waters out of the clouds of the heavens.
13 Præ fulgore in conspectu ejus,
succensi sunt carbones ignis.
for briytnesse in his siyt
colis of fier weren kyndelid.
By the brightness before him,
the coals of fire were kindled.
14 Tonabit de cælo Dominus,
et excelsus dabit vocem suam.
The Lord schal thundur fro heuene;
and hiy God schal yyue his vois.
The Lord shall thunder from heaven:
and the most high shall give forth his voice.
15 Misit sagittas et dissipavit eos;
fulgur, et consumpsit eos.
He sente hise arowis, and scateride hem;
he sente leitis, and wastide hem.
He shot arrows and scattered them:
lightning, and consumed them.
16 Et apparuerunt effusiones maris,
et revelata sunt fundamenta orbis ab increpatione Domini,
ab inspiratione spiritus furoris ejus.
And the schedyngis out of the see apperiden,
and the foundementis of the world weren schewid;
fro the blamyng of the Lord,
fro the brething of the spirit of his strong veniaunce.
And the overflowings of the sea appeared,
and the foundations of the world were laid open
at the rebuke of the Lord,
at the blast of the spirit of his wrath.
17 Misit de excelso, et assumpsit me,
et extraxit me de aquis multis.
He sente fro heuene, and took me;
and drow me out of manye watris.
He sent from on high, and took me,
and drew me out of many waters.
18 Liberavit me ab inimico meo potentissimo,
et ab his qui oderant me:
quoniam robustiores me erant.
He delyuerede me fro my myytiest enemy,
and fro hem that hatiden me;
for thei weren strongere than Y.
He delivered me from my most mighty enemy,
and from them that hated me:
for they were too strong for me.
19 Prævenit me in die afflictionis meæ,
et factus est Dominus firmamentum meum.
Thei camen bifore me in the dai of my turmentyng;
and the Lord was maad my stidfastnesse.
He prevented me in the day of my affliction,
and the Lord became my stay.
20 Et eduxit me in latitudinem:
liberavit me, quia complacui ei.
And he ledde me out in to largenesse,
and he delyuerede me; for Y pleside hym.
And he brought me forth into a large place,
he delivered me, because I pleased him.
21 Retribuet mihi Dominus secundum justitiam meam:
et secundum munditiam manuum mearum reddet mihi.
The Lord schal yelde to me vp my riytfulnesse;
and he schal yelde to me vp, ethir aftir, the clennesse of myn hondis.
The Lord will reward me according to my justice:
and according to the cleanness of my hands he will render to me.
22 Quia custodivi vias Domini,
et non egi impie a Deo meo.
For Y kepte the weies of the Lord;
and Y dide not wickidli fro my God.
Because I have kept the ways of the Lord,
and have not wickedly departed from my God.
23 Omnia enim judicia ejus in conspectu meo,
et præcepta ejus non amovi a me.
For alle hise domes weren in my siyt;
and Y dide not awei fro me hise heestis.
For all his judgments are in my sight:
and his precepts I have not removed from me.
24 Et ero perfectus cum eo,
et custodiam me ab iniquitate mea.
And Y schal be perfit with hym;
and Y schal kepe me fro my wickidnesse.
And I shall be perfect with him:
and shall keep myself from my iniquity.
25 Et restituet mihi Dominus secundum justitiam meam,
et secundum munditiam manuum mearum in conspectu oculorum suorum.
And the Lord schal restore to me vpe my riytfulnesse;
and vp the clennesse of myn hondis in the siyt of hise iyen.
And the Lord will recompense me according to my justice:
and according to the cleanness of my hands in the sight of his eyes.
26 Cum sancto sanctus eris,
et cum robusto perfectus.
With the hooli thou schalt be hooli,
and with the stronge,
that is, to suffre aduersitees pacientli, thou schalt be perfit;
With the holy one thou wilt be holy:
and with the valiant perfect.
27 Cum electo electus eris,
et cum perverso perverteris.
and with a chosun man to blis thou schalt be chosun,
and with a weiward man thou schalt be maad weiward,
that is, in yeldynge iustli peyne to hym vpe his weiwardnesse.
With the elect thou wilt be elect:
and with the perverse thou wilt be perverted.
28 Et populum pauperem salvum facies:
oculisque tuis excelsos humiliabis.
And thou schalt make saaf a pore puple;
and with thin iyen thou schalt make lowe hem that ben hiye.
And the poor people thou wilt save: and
with thy eyes thou wilt humble the haughty.
29 Quia tu lucerna mea, Domine,
et tu, Domine, illuminabis tenebras meas.
For thou, Lord, art my lanterne,
and thou, Lord, schalt liytne my derknessis.
For thou art my lamp, O Lord:
and thou, O Lord, wilt enlighten my darkness.
30 In te enim curram accinctus:
in Deo meo transiliam murum.
For Y gird, that is, maad redi to batel, schal renne in thee, that is, in thi vertu;
and in my God Y schal scippe ouer the wal.
For in thee I will run girded:
in my God I will leap over the wall.
31 Deus, immaculata via ejus;
eloquium Domini igne examinatum:
scutum est omnium sperantium in se.
God his weie is with out wem;
the speche of the Lord is examynyd bi fier, that is, is pure and clene as metal preuyd in the furneys;
he is a scheeld of alle men hopynge in hym.
God, his way is immaculate,
the word of the Lord is tried by fire:
he is the shield of all that trust in him.
32 Quis est Deus præter Dominum,
et quis fortis præter Deum nostrum?
For who is God, outakun the Lord;
and who is strong, outakun oure God?
Who is God but the Lord:
and who is strong but our God?
33 Deus qui accinxit me fortitudine,
et complanavit perfectam viam meam.
God, that hath gird me with strengthe,
and hath maad pleyn my perfit weie;
God who hath girded me with strength,
and made my way perfect.
34 Coæquans pedes meos cervis,
et super excelsa mea statuens me;
and he made euene my feet with hertis,
and settide me on myn hiye thingis;
Making my feet like the feet of harts,
and setting me upon my high places.
35 docens manus meas ad prælium,
et componens quasi arcum æreum brachia mea.
and he tauyte myn hondis to batel,
and made myn armes as a brasun bouwe.
He teacheth my bands to war:
and maketh my arms like a bow of brass.
36 Dedisti mihi clypeum salutis tuæ,
et mansuetudo tua multiplicavit me.
Thou hast youe to me the sheeld of thin heelthe;
and my myldenesse multipliede me.
Thou hast given me the shield of my salvation:
and thy mildness hath multiplied me.
37 Dilatabis gressus meos subtus me,
et non deficient tali mei.
Thou schalt alarge my steppis vndur me;
and myn heelis schulen not faile.
Thou shalt enlarge my steps under me:
and my ankles shall not fail.
38 Persequar inimicos meos, et conteram,
et non convertar donec consumam eos.
Y schal pursue myn enemyes, and Y schal al tobreke hem;
and Y schal not turne ayen, til Y waste hem.
I will pursue after my enemies, and crush them:
and will not return again till I consume them.
39 Consumam eos et confringam, ut non consurgant:
cadent sub pedibus meis.
Y schal waste hem, and Y schal breke, that thei rise not;
thei schulen falle vndur my feet.
I will consume them and break them in pieces, so that they shall not rise:
they shall fall under my feet.
40 Accinxisti me fortitudine ad prælium:
incurvasti resistentes mihi subtus me.
Thou hast gird me with strengthe to batel;
thou hast bowid vnder me hem that ayenstoden me.
Thou hast girded me with strength to battle:
thou hast made them that resisted me to bow under me.
41 Inimicos meos dedisti mihi dorsum;
odientes me, et disperdam eos.
Thou hast youe myn enemyes abac to me,
men hatynge me; and Y schal distrie hem.
My enemies thou hast made to turn their back to me:
them that hated me, and I shall destroy them.
42 Clamabunt, et non erit qui salvet;
ad Dominum, et non exaudiet eos.
Thei schulen crye, that is, to ydols ether to mennus help, and noon schal be that schal saue;
thei schulen crie to the Lord, and he schal not here hem.
They shall cry, and there shall be none to save:
to the Lord, and he shall not hear them.
43 Delebo eos ut pulverem terræ;
quasi lutum platearum comminuam eos atque confringam.
Y schal do awei hem as the dust of erthe; Y schal powne hem, and Y schal do awei as the clei of stretis. I shall beat them as small as the dust of the earth: I shall crush them and spread them abroad like the mire of the streets.
44 Salvabis me a contradictionibus populi mei;
custodies me in caput gentium: populus quem ignoro serviet mihi.
Thou schalt saue me fro ayenseiyngis of my puple;
thou schalt kepe me in to the heed of folkis; the puple, whom Y knowe not, schal serue me.
Thou wilt save me from the contradictions of my people:
thou wilt keep me to be the head of the Gentiles: the people which I know not, shall serve me,
45 Filii alieni resistent mihi;
auditu auris obedient mihi.
Alien sones schulen ayenstonde me;
bi heryng of eere thei schulen obeie to me.
The sons of the stranger will resist me,
at the hearing of the ear they will obey me.
46 Filii alieni defluxerunt,
et contrahentur in angustiis suis.
Alien sones fletiden awei;
and thei schulen be drawun togidere in her angwischis.
The strangers are melted away,
and shall be straitened in their distresses.
47 Vivit Dominus, et benedictus Deus meus,
et exaltabitur Deus fortis salutis meæ.
The Lord lyueth, and my God is blessid;
and the stronge God of myn helthe schal be enhaunsid.
The Lord liveth, and my God is blessed:
and the strong God of my salvation shall be exalted:
48 Deus qui das vindictas mihi,
et dejicis populos sub me.
God, that yyuest veniauncis to me;
and hast cast doun puplis vndur me.
God who giveth me revenge,
and bringest down people under me,
49 Qui educis me ab inimicis meis,
et a resistentibus mihi elevas me:
a viro iniquo liberabis me.
Which ledist me out fro myn enemyes,
and reisist me fro men ayenstondinge me;
thou schalt deliuere me fro the wickid man.
Who bringest me forth from my enemies,
and liftest me up from them that resist me:
from the wicked man thou shalt deliver me.
50 Propterea confitebor tibi, Domine, in gentibus,
et nomini tuo cantabo:
Therfor, Lord, Y schal knowleche to thee in hethene men;
and Y schal synge to thi name.
Therefore will I give thanks to thee. O Lord, among the Gentiles,
and will sing to thy name.
51 magnificans salutes regis sui,
et faciens misericordiam christo suo David,
et semini ejus in sempiternum.
And he magnyfieth the helthis of his kyng;
and doith mercyes to his crist Dauid,
and to his seed til in to withouten ende.
Giving great salvation to his king,
and shewing mercy to David his anointed,
and to his seed for ever.
