And kyng Dauid spak to al the chirche, God hath chose Salomon, my sone, yit a child and tendre; forsothe the werk is greet, and a dwellyng is not maad redi to man but to God. And king David said to all the assembly: Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is as yet young and tender: and the work is great, for a house is prepared not for man, but for God. Gifts for building the temple. 1Chr.29.1-9
2 Ego autem totis viribus meis præparavi impensas domus Dei mei. Aurum ad vasa aurea, et argentum in argentea, æs in ænea, ferrum in ferrea, ligna ad lignea: et lapides onychinos, et quasi stibinos, et diversorum colorum, omnemque pretiosum lapidem, et marmor Parium abundantissime: Sotheli Y in alle my myytis haue maad redi the costis of the hows of my God; gold to goldun vessels, siluer in to siluerne vessels, bras in to brasun vessels, irun in to irun vessels, tre in to trenun vessels, onychyn stonys, and stonys as of the colour of wymmens oynement, and ech precious stoon of dyuerse colouris, and marbil of dyuerse colouris, most plenteuously. And I with all my ability have prepared the expenses for the house of my God. Gold for vessels of gold, and silver for vessels of silver, brass for things of brass, iron for things of iron, wood for things of wood: and onyx stones, and stones like alabaster, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble of Paros in great abundance.
3 et super hæc, quæ obtuli in domum Dei mei de peculio meo aurum et argentum, do in templum Dei mei, exceptis his, quæ præparavi in ædem sanctam. And ouer these thingis Y yyue gold and siluer in to the temple of my God, whiche Y offride of my propir catel in to the hows of my God, outakun these thingis whiche Y made redi in to the hooli hows, Now over and above the things which I have offered into the house of my God I give of my own proper goods, gold and silver for the temple of my God, beside what things I have prepared for the holy house.
4 Tria millia talenta auri de auro Ophir: et septem millia talentorum argenti probatissimi ad deaurandos parietes templi. thre thousynde talentis of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seuene thousynde of talentis of siluer most preuyd, to ouergilde the wallis of the temple; Three thousand talents of gold of the gold of Ophir: and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the temple.
5 Et ubicumque opus est aurum de auro, et ubicumque opus est argentum de argento, opera fiant per manus artificum: et si quis sponte offert, impleat manum suam hodie, et offerat quod voluerit Domino. and werkis be maad bi the hondis of crafti men, where euere gold is nedeful, of gold, and where euere siluer is nedeful, of siluer; and if ony man offrith bi his fre wille, fille he his hond to dai, and offre he that that he wole to the Lord. And gold for wheresoever there is need of gold: and silver for wheresoever there is need of silver, for the works to be made by the hands of the artificers: now if any man is willing to offer, let him fill his hand to day, and offer what he pleaseth to the Lord.
Therfor the princes of meynees, and the duykis of the lynagis of Israel, and the tribunes, and the centuriouns, and the princes of the possessiouns of the kyng, bihiyten; Then the heads of the families, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and the overseers of the king's possessions promised,
7 Dederuntque in opera domus Dei auri talenta quinque millia, et solidos decem millia: argenti talenta decem millia, et æris talenta decem et octo millia: ferri quoque centum millia talentorum. and thei yauen in to the werkis of the hows of the Lord, fyue thousynde talentis of gold, and ten thousynde schyllyngis; ten thousynde talentis of siluer, and eiytene thousynde talentis of bras, and an hundrid thousynde of talentis of irun. And they gave for the works of the house of the Lord, of gold, five thousand talents, and ten thousand solids: of silver ten thousand talents: and of brass eighteen thousand talents: and of iron a hundred thousand talents.
And at whom euere stoonys were foundun, thei yauen in to the tresour of the hows of the Lord, bi the hond of Jehiel Gersonyte. And all they that had stones, gave them to the treasures of the house of the Lord, by the hand of Jahiel the Gersonite.
And the puple was glad, whanne thei bihiyten avowis bi her fre wille, for with al the herte thei offriden tho to the Lord. But also kyng Dauid was glad with greet ioye, and blesside the Lord bifor al the multitude, And the people rejoiced, when they promised their offerings willingly: because they offered them to the Lord with all their heart: and David the king rejoiced also with a great joy.
10 Et benedixit Domino coram universa multitudine, et ait:
Benedictus es, Domine Deus Israël patris nostri ab æterno in æternum.
and seide, Lord God of Israel, oure fadir, thou art blessid fro with outen bigynnyng in to with outen ende; And he blessed the Lord before all the multitude, and he said: Blessed art thou, O Lord the God of Israel, our father from eternity to eternity. David praises the LORD. 1Chr.29.10-25
Lord, worthi doyng is thin, and power,
and glorie, and victorie, and heriyng is to thee;
for alle thingis that ben in heuene and in erthe ben thine;
Lord, the rewme is thin, and thou art ouer alle princes;
ritchessis ben thin, and glorie is thin;
Thine, O Lord, is magnificence, and power,
and glory, and victory: and to thee is praise:
for all that is in heaven, and in earth, is thine:
thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art above all princes.
12 Tuæ divitiæ, et tua est gloria:
tu dominaris omnium:
in manu tua virtus et potentia:
in manu tua magnitudo, et imperium omnium.
thou art Lord of alle;
in thin hond is vertu, and power, and in thin hond is greetnesse, and lordschipe of alle.
Thine are riches, and thine is glory,
thou hast dominion over all,
in thy hand is power and might:
in thy hand greatness, and the empire of all things.
13 Nunc igitur Deus noster, confitemur tibi,
et laudamus nomen tuum inclytum.
Now therfor, oure God, we knoulechen to thee,
and we herien thi noble name.
Now therefore our God we give thanks to thee,
and we praise thy glorious name.
Who am Y, and who is my puple, that we moun bihete alle these thingis to thee?
Alle thingis ben thine, and we han youe to thee tho thingis, whiche we token of thin hond.
Who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to promise thee all these things?
all things are thine: and we have given thee what we received of thy hand.
15 Peregrini enim sumus coram te,
et advenæ, sicut omnes patres nostri.
Dies nostri quasi umbra super terram,
et nulla est mora.
For we ben pilgrimes and comelyngis bifor thee,
as alle oure fadris;
oure daies ben as schadewe on the erthe,
and no dwellyng is.
For we are sojourners before thee,
and strangers, as were all our fathers.
Our days upon earth are as a shadow,
and there is no stay.
16 Domine Deus noster,
Oure Lord God,
al this plentee which we han maad redi, that an hows schulde be byldid to thin hooli name,
is of thin hond; and alle thingis ben thin.
O Lord our God,
all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name,
is from thy hand, and all things are thine.
17 Scio, Deus meus, quod probes corda,
et simplicitatem diligas, unde et ego in simplicitate cordis mei lætus obtuli universa hæc:
et populum tuum, qui hic repertus est,
vidi cum ingenti gaudio tibi offerre donaria.
My God, Y woot, that thou preuest hertis, and louest symplenesse of herte;
wherfor and Y, in the symplenesse of myn herte, haue offrid gladli alle these thingis;
and Y siy with greet ioye thi puple, which is foundun here,
offre yiftis to thee.
I know my God that thou provest hearts,
and lovest simplicity, wherefore I also in the simplicity of my heart, have joyfully offered all these things:
and I have seen with great joy thy people, which are here present,
offer thee their offerings.
18 Domine Deus Abraham, et Isaac, et Israël patrum nostrorum, custodi in æternum hanc voluntatem cordis eorum, et semper in venerationem tui mens ista permaneat. Lord God of Abraham, and of Ysaac, and of Israel, oure fadris, kepe thou with outen ende this wille of her hertis; and this mynde dwelle euere in to the worschipyng of thee. O Lord God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Israel our fathers, keep for ever this will of their heart, and let this mind remain always for the worship of thee.
Also yyue thou to Salomon, my sone, a perfit herte, that he kepe thin heestis, and witnessyngis, and thi ceremonyes;
and do alle thingis, and that he bilde the hows, whose costis Y haue maad redi.
And give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, that he may keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy ceremonies, and do all things:
and build the house, for which I have provided the charges.
Forsothe Dauid comaundide to al the chirche, Blesse ye oure Lord God. And al the chirche blesside the Lord God of her fadris, and thei bowiden hem silf, and worschipiden God, aftirward the kyng. And David commanded all the assembly: Bless ye the Lord our God. And all the assembly blessed the Lord the God of their fathers: and they bowed themselves and worshipped God, and then the king.
21 Immolaveruntque victimas Domino: et obtulerunt holocausta die sequenti, tauros mille, arietes mille, agnos mille cum libaminibus suis, et universo ritu abundantissime in omnem Israël. And thei offriden slayn sacrifices to the Lord, and thei offriden brent sacrifices in the dai suynge; a thousynde boolis, and a thousynde rammes, and a thousynde lambren, with her fletynge sacrifices, and al the custom, most plenteuously, in to al Israel. And they sacrificed victims to the Lord: and they offered holocausts the next day, a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs, with their libations, and with every thing prescribed most abundantly for all Israel.
And thei eten and drunken bifor the Lord in that dai, with greet gladnesse. And thei anoyntiden the secounde tyme Salomon, the sone of Dauid; and thei anoyntiden hym in to prince to the Lord, and Sadoch in to bischop. And they ate, and drank before the Lord that day with great joy. And they anointed the second time Solomon the son of David. And they anointed him to the Lord to be prince, end Sadoc to be high priest.
And Salomon sat on the trone of the Lord in to kyng, for Dauid, his fadir; and it pleside alle men, and al Israel obeiede to hym. And Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David his father, and he pleased all: and all Israel obeyed him.
But also alle princes, and myyti men, and alle the sones of kyng Dauid, yauen hond, and weren suget to Salomon the kyng. And all the princes, and men of power, and all the sons of king David gave their hand, and were subject to Solomon the king.
25 Magnificavit ergo Dominus Salomonem super omnem Israël: et dedit illi gloriam regni, qualem nullus habuit ante eum rex Israël. Therfor the Lord magnefiede Salomon on al Israel, and yaue to hym glorie of the rewme, what maner glorie no kyng of Israel hadde bifor hym. And the Lord magnified Solomon over all Israel: and gave him the glory of a reign, such as no king of Israel had before him.
26 Igitur David filius Isai regnavit super universum Israël. Therfor Dauid, the sone of Ysai, regnede on al Israel; So David the son of Isai reigned over all Israel. Summary of David's reign. 1Chr.29.26-30
27 Et dies, quibus regnavit super Israël, fuerunt quadraginta anni: in Hebron regnavit septem annis, et in Jerusalem annis triginta tribus. and the daies in whiche he regnede on Israel weren fourti yeer; in Ebron he regnede seuene yeer, and in Jerusalem thre and thretti yeer. And the days that he reigned over Israel, were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem three and thirty years.
And he diede in good eelde, and was ful of daies, and richessis, and glorie; and Salomon, his sone, regnede for hym. And he died in a good age, full of days, and riches, and glory. And Solomon his son reigned in his stead.
29 Gesta autem David regis priora et novissima scripta sunt in libro Samuelis videntis, et in libro Nathan prophetæ, atque in volumine Gad videntis: Forsothe the formere and the laste dedis of Dauid ben writun in the book of Samuel, the prophete, and in the book of Nathan, prophete, and in the book of Gad, the prophete; Now the acts of king David first and last are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer:
30 universique regni ejus, et fortitudinis, et temporum, quæ transierunt sub eo, sive in Israël, sive in cunctis regnis terrarum. and of al his rewme, and strengthe, and tymes, that passiden vndur hym, ethir in Israel, ethir in alle rewmes of londis. And of all his reign, and his valour, and of the times that passed under him, either in Israel, or in all the kingdoms of the countries.
