1εἰ ἔγνως καιρὸν τοκετοῦ τραγελάφων πέτρας,
ἐφύλαξας δὲ ὠδῖνας ἐλάφων;
 [Say] if you know the time of the bringing forth of the wild goats of the rock,
and [if] you have marked the calving of the hinds:
 "Do you know when the mountain goats bring forth?
Do you observe the calving of the hinds?
הֲיָדַעְתָּ עֵת לֶדֶת יַעֲלֵי־סָלַע חֹלֵל אַיָּלֹות תִּשְׁמֹר׃ 1
2ἠρίθμησας δὲ αὐτῶν μῆνας πλήρεις τοκετοῦ,
ὠδῖνας δὲ αὐτῶν ἔλυσας;
 and [if] you has have numbered the full months of their being with young,
and [if] you have relieved their pangs:
 Can you number the months that they fulfil,
and do you know the time when they bring forth,
תִּסְפֹּר יְרָחִים תְּמַלֶּאנָה וְיָדַעְתָּ עֵת לִדְתָּנָה׃ 2
3ἐξέθρεψας δὲ αὐτῶν τὰ παιδία ἔξω φόβου;
ὠδῖνας αὐτῶν ἐξαποστελεῖς;
 and have reared their young without fear;
and will you loosen their pangs?
 when they crouch, bring forth their offsring,
and are delivered of their young?
תִּכְרַעְנָה יַלְדֵיהֶן תְּפַלַּחְנָה חֶבְלֵיהֶם תְּשַׁלַּחְנָה׃ 3
4ἀπορρήξουσιν τὰ τέκνα αὐτῶν, πληθυνθήσονται ἐν γενήματι,
ἐξελεύσονται καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀνακάμψουσιν αὐτοῖς.
 Their young will break forth;
they will be multiplied with offspring:
[their young] will go forth, and will not return to them.
 Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open;
they go forth, and do not return to them.
יַחְלְמוּ בְנֵיהֶם יִרְבּוּ בַבָּר יָצְאוּ וְלֹא־שָׁבוּ לָמֹו׃ 4
5τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ ἀφεὶς ὄνον ἄγριον ἐλεύθερον,
δεσμοὺς δὲ αὐτοῦ τίς ἔλυσεν;
 And who is he that sent forth the wild ass free?
and who loosed his bands?
 Can you number the months that they fulfil,
and do you know the time when they bring forth,
מִי־שִׁלַּח פֶּרֶא חָפְשִׁי וּמֹסְרֹות עָרֹוד מִי פִתֵּחַ׃ 5
6ἐθέμην δὲ τὴν δίαιταν αὐτοῦ ἔρημον,
καὶ τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτοῦ ἁλμυρίδα·
 whereas I made his habitation the wilderness,
and the salt land his coverts.
 to whom I have given the steppe for his home,
and the salt land for his dwelling place?
אֲשֶׁר־שַׂמְתִּי עֲרָבָה בֵיתֹו וּמִשְׁכְּנֹותָיו מְלֵחָה׃ 6
7καταγελῶν πολυοχλίας πόλεως,
μέμψιν δὲ φορολόγου οὐκ ἀκούων
 He laughs to scorn the multitude of the city,
and hears not the chiding of the tax-gatherer.
 He scorns the tumult of the city;
he hears not the shouts of the driver.
יִשְׂחַק לַהֲמֹון קִרְיָה תְּשֻׁאֹות נֹוגֵשׂ לֹא יִשְׁמָע׃ 7
8κατασκέψεται ὄρη νομὴν αὐτοῦ,
καὶ ὀπίσω παντὸς χλωροῦ ζητεῖ.
 He will survey the mountains [as] his pasture,
and he seeks after every green thing.
 He ranges the mountains as his pasture,
and he searches after every green thing.
יְתוּר הָרִים מִרְעֵהוּ וְאַחַר כָּל־יָרֹוק יִדְרֹושׁ׃ 8
9βουλήσεται δέ σοι μονόκερως δουλεῦσαι,
ἢ κοιμηθῆναι ἐπὶ φάτνης σου;
 And will the unicorn be willing to serve you,
or to lie down at your manger?
 "Is the wild ox willing to serve you?
Will he spend the night at your crib?
הֲיֹאבֶה רֵּימ עָבְדֶךָ אִם־יָלִין עַל־אֲבוּסֶךָ׃ 9
10δήσεις δὲ ἐν ἱμᾶσι ζυγὸν αὐτοῦ,
ἢ ἑλκύσει σου αὔλακας ἐν πεδίῳ;
 And will you bind his yoke with thongs,
or will he plough furrows for you in the plain?
 Can you bind him in the furrow with ropes,
or will he harrow the valleys after you?
הֲתִקְשָׁר־רֵים בְּתֶלֶם עֲבֹתֹו אִם־יְשַׂדֵּד עֲמָקִים אַחֲרֶיךָ׃ 10
11πέποιθας δὲ ἐπ' αὐτῷ, ὅτι πολλὴ ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ,
ἐπαφήσεις δὲ αὐτῷ τὰ ἔργα σου;
 And do you trust him, because his strength is great?
and will you commit your works to him?
 Will you depend on him because his strength is great,
and will you leave to him your labor?
הֲתִבְטַח־בֹּו כִּי־רַב כֹּחֹו וְתַעֲזֹב אֵלָיו יְגִיעֶךָ׃ 11
12πιστεύσεις δὲ ὅτι ἀποδώσει σοι τὸν σπόρον,
εἰσοίσει δέ σου τὸν ἅλωνα;
 And will you believe that he will return to you your seed,
and bring [it] in [to] your threshing-floor?
 Do you have faith in him that he will return,
and bring your grain to your threshing floor?
הֲתַאֲמִין בֹּו כִּי־[כ= יָשׁוּב] [ק= יָשִׁיב] זַרְעֶךָ וְגָרְנְךָ יֶאֱסֹף׃ 12
13πτέρυξ τερπομένων νεελασα,
ἐὰν συλλάβῃ ασιδα καὶ νεσσα·
 The peacock has a beautiful wing:
if the stork and the ostrich conceive, [it is worthy of notice],
 "The wings of the ostrich wave proudly;
but are they the pinions and plumage of love?
כְּנַף־רְנָנִים נֶעֱלָסָה אִם־אֶבְרָה חֲסִידָה וְנֹצָה׃ 13
14ὅτι ἀφήσει εἰς γῆν τὰ ᾠὰ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπὶ χοῦν θάλψει
 for [the ostrich] will leave her eggs in the ground,
and warm them on the dust,
 For she leaves her eggs to the earth,
and lets them be warmed on the ground,
כִּי־תַעֲזֹב לָאָרֶץ בֵּצֶיהָ וְעַל־עָפָר תְּחַםֵּם׃ 14
15καὶ ἐπελάθετο ὅτι ποὺς σκορπιεῖ
καὶ θηρία ἀγροῦ καταπατήσει·
 and has forgotten that the foot will scatter them,
and the wild beasts of the field trample them.
 forgetting that a foot may crush them,
and that the wild beast may trample them.
וַתִּשְׁכַּח כִּי־רֶגֶל תְּזוּרֶהָ וְחַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה תְּדוּשֶׁהָ׃ 15
16ἀπεσκλήρυνεν τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς ὥστε μὴ ἑαυτῇ,
εἰς κενὸν ἐκοπίασεν ἄνευ φόβου·
 She has hardened [herself] against her young ones,
as though [she bereaved] not herself:
she labours in vain without fear.
 She deals cruelly with her young, as if they were not hers;
though her labor be in vain, yet she has no fear;
הִקְשִׁיחַ בָּנֶיהָ לְּלֹא־לָהּ לְרִיק יְגִיעָהּ בְּלִי־פָחַד׃ 16
17ὅτι κατεσιώπησεν αὐτῇ ὁ θεὸς σοφίαν,
καὶ οὐκ ἐμέρισεν αὐτῇ ἐν τῇ συνέσει.
 For God has withholden wisdom from her,
and not given her a portion in understanding.
 because God has made her forget wisdom,
and given her no share in understanding.
כִּי־הִשָּׁהּ אֱלֹוהַּ חָכְמָה וְלֹא־חָלַק לָהּ בַּבִּינָה׃ 17
18κατὰ καιρὸν ἐν ὕψει ὑψώσει,
καταγελάσεται ἵππου καὶ τοῦ ἐπιβάτου αὐτοῦ.
 In her season she will lift herself on high;
she will scorn the horse and his rider.
 When she rouses herself to flee,
she laughs at the horse and his rider.
כָּעֵת בַּמָּרֹום תַּמְרִיא תִּשְׂחַק לַסּוּס וּלְרֹכְבֹו׃ 18
19ἦ σὺ περιέθηκας ἵππῳ δύναμιν,
ἐνέδυσας δὲ τραχήλῳ αὐτοῦ φόβον;
 Have you invested the horse with strength,
and clothed his neck with terror?
 "Do you give the horse his might?
Do you clothe his neck with strength?
הֲתִתֵּן לַסּוּס גְּבוּרָה הֲתַלְבִּישׁ צַוָּארֹו רַעְמָה׃ 19
20περιέθηκας δὲ αὐτῷ πανοπλίαν,
δόξαν δὲ στηθέων αὐτοῦ τόλμῃ;
 And have you clad him in perfect armour,
and made his breast glorious with courage?
 Do you make him leap like the locust?
His majestic snorting is terrible.
הְתַרְעִישֶׁנּוּ כָּאַרְבֶּה הֹוד נַחְרֹו אֵימָה׃ 20
21ἀνορύσσων ἐν πεδίῳ γαυριᾷ,
ἐκπορεύεται δὲ εἰς πεδίον ἐν ἰσχύι·
 He paws exulting in the plain,
and goes forth in strength into the plain.
 He paws in the valley, and exults in his strength;
he goes out to meet the weapons.
יַחְפְּרוּ בָעֵמֶק וְיָשִׂישׂ בְּכֹחַ יֵצֵא לִקְרַאת־נָשֶׁק׃ 21
22συναντῶν βέλει καταγελᾷ,
καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποστραφῇ ἀπὸ σιδήρου·
 He laughs to scorn a king as he meets him,
and will by no means turn back from the sword.
 He laughs at fear, and is not dismayed;
he does not turn back from the sword.
יִשְׂחַק לְפַחַד וְלֹא יֵחָת וְלֹא־יָשׁוּב מִפְּנֵי־חָרֶב׃ 22
23ἐπ' αὐτῷ γαυριᾷ τόξον καὶ μάχαιρα,
 The bow and sword resound against him;
and [his] rage will swallow up the ground:
 Upon him rattle the quiver,
the flashing spear and the javelin.
עָלָיו תִּרְנֶה אַשְׁפָּה לַהַב חֲנִית וְכִידֹון׃ 23
24καὶ ὀργῇ ἀφανιεῖ τὴν γῆν καὶ οὐ μὴ πιστεύσῃ,
ἕως ἂν σημάνῃ σάλπιγξ·
 and he will not believe until the trumpet sounds.
 With fierceness and rage he swallows the ground;
he cannot stand still at the sound of the trumpet.
בְּרַעַשׁ וְרֹגֶז יְגַמֶּא־אָרֶץ וְלֹא־יַאֲמִין כִּי־קֹול שֹׁופָר׃ 24
25σάλπιγγος δὲ σημαινούσης λέγει Εὖγε,
πόρρωθεν δὲ ὀσφραίνεται πολέμου σὺν ἅλματι καὶ κραυγῇ.
 And when the trumpet sounds, he says, Aha!
and afar off he smells the war with prancing and neighing.
 When the trumpet sounds, he says 'Aha!'
He smells the battle from afar,
the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
בְּדֵי שֹׁפָר יֹאמַר הֶאָח וּמֵרָחֹוק יָרִיחַ מִלְחָמָה רַעַם שָׂרִימ וּתְרוּעָה׃ 25
26ἐκ δὲ τῆς σῆς ἐπιστήμης ἕστηκεν ἱέραξ,
ἀναπετάσας τὰς πτέρυγας ἀκίνητος καθορῶν τὰ πρὸς νότον;
 And does the hawk remain steady by your wisdom,
having spread out her wings unmoved,
looking toward the region of the south?
 "Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars,
and spreads his wings toward the south?
הֲמִבִּינָתְךָ יַאֲבֶר־נֵץ יִפְרֹשׂ [כ= כְּנָפֹו] [ק= כְּנָפָיו] לְתֵימָן׃ 26
27ἐπὶ δὲ σῷ προστάγματι ὑψοῦται ἀετός,
γὺψ δὲ ἐπὶ νοσσιᾶς αὐτοῦ καθεσθεὶς αὐλίζεται
 And does the eagle rise at your command,
and the vulture remain sitting over his nest,
 Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up
and makes his nest on high?
אִם־עַל־פִּיךָ יַגְבִּיהַּ נָשֶׁר וְכִי יָרִים קִנֹּו׃ 27
28ἐπ ἐξοχῇ πέτρας καὶ ἀποκρύφῳ;
 on a crag of a rock,
and in a secret [place]?
 On the rock he dwells and makes his home
in the fastness of the rocky crag.
סֶלַע יִשְׁכֹּן וְיִתְלֹןָן עַל־שֶׁן־סֶלַע וּמְצוּדָה׃ 28
29ἐκεῖσε ὢν ζητεῖ τὰ σῖτα,
πόρρωθεν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ σκοπεύουσιν·
 Thence he seeks food,
his eyes observe from far.
 Thence he spies out the prey;
his eyes behold it afar off.
מִשָּׁם חָפַר־אֹכֶל לְמֵרָחֹוק עֵינָיו יַבִּיטוּ׃ 29
30νεοσσοὶ δὲ αὐτοῦ φύρονται ἐν αἵματι,
οὗ δ' ἂν ὦσι τεθνεῶτες, παραχρῆμα εὑρίσκονται.
 And his young ones roll themselves in blood,
and wherever the carcasses may be,
immediately they are found.
 His young ones suck up blood;
and where the slain are, there is he."		[כ= וְאֶפְרֹחֹו] [ק= וְאֶפְרֹחָיו] יְעַלְעוּ־דָם וּבַאֲשֶׁר חֲלָלִים שָׁם הוּא׃ ף 30
31Καὶ ἀπεκρίθη κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῷ Ιωβ καὶ εἶπεν
 And the Lord God answered Job, and said,
The LORD. Jb.40:1Then the LORD said to Job:וַיַּעַן יְהוָה אֶת־אִיֹּוב וַיֹּאמַר׃ 1
32Μὴ κρίσιν μετὰ ἱκανοῦ ἐκκλινεῖ;
ἐλέγχων θεὸν ἀποκριθήσεται αὐτήν;
 Will [any one] pervert judgment with the Mighty One?
and he that reproves God,
let him return it for answer.
 "Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty?
He who argues with God, let him answer it."		הֲרֹב עִם־שַׁדַּי יִסֹּור מֹוכִיחַ אֱלֹוהַּ יַעֲנֶנָּה׃ ף 2
33Ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει τῷ κυρίῳ
 And Job answered and said to the Lord,
Job. Jb.40.3-6Then Job answered the LORD:וַיַּעַן אִיֹּוב אֶת־יְהוָה וַיֹּאמַר׃ 3
34Τί ἔτι ἐγὼ κρίνομαι νουθετούμενος καὶ ἐλέγχων Κύριον,
ἀκούων τοιαῦτα οὐθὲν ὤν;
ἐγὼ δὲ τίνα ἀπόκρισιν δῶ πρὸς ταῦτα;
χεῖρα θήσω ἐπὶ στόματί μου·
 Why do I yet plead?
being rebuked even while reproving the Lord:
hearing such things, whereas I am nothing:
and what shall I answer to these [arguments]?
I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
 "Behold, I am of small account;
what shall I answer thee?
I lay my hand on my mouth.
הֵן קַלֹּתִי מָה אֲשִׁיבֶךָּ יָדִי שַׂמְתִּי לְמֹו־פִי׃ 4
35ἅπαξ λελάληκα, ἐπὶ δὲ τῷ δευτέρῳ οὐ προσθήσω.
 I have spoken once;
but I will not do so a second time.
 I have spoken once, and I will not answer;
twice, but I will proceed no further."
אַחַת דִּבַּרְתִּי וְלֹא אֶעֱנֶה וּשְׁתַּיִם וְלֹא אֹוסִיף׃ ף 5
