28ΙΩΒ Brenton(Lxx) JOB Revised Standard Version JOB 28

For there is a place for the silver whence it comes and a place for the gold whence it is refined. In praise of Wisdom. Jb.28.1-28 "Surely there is a mine for silver,
and a place for gold which they refine.
For iron comes out of the earth and brass is hewn out like stone.   Iron is taken out of the earth,
and copper is smelted from the ore.
He has set a bound to darkness and he searches out every limit: a stone [is] darkness and the shadow of death.   Men put an end to darkness,
and search out to the farthest bound the ore in gloom and deep darkness.
There is a cutting off the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from [among] men.   They open shafts in a valley away from where men live;
they are forgotten by travelers,
they hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.
[As for] the earth out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.   As for the earth, out of it comes bread;
but underneath it is turned up as by fire.
Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and [her] dust [supplies] man with gold.   Its stones are the place of sapphires,
and it has dust of gold.
[There is] a path the fowl has not known it neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:   "That path no bird of prey knows,
and the falcon's eye has not seen it.
neither have the sons of the proud trodden it a lion has not passed upon it.   The proud beasts have not trodden it;
the lion has not passed over it.
He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp [rock] and turned up mountains by the roots:   "Man puts his hand to the flinty rock,
and overturns mountains by the roots.
and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers and mine eye has seen every precious thing.   He cuts out channels in the rocks,
and his eye sees every precious thing.
And he has laid bare the depths of rivers and has brought his power to light.   He binds up the streams so that they do not trickle,
and the thing that is hid he brings forth to light.
12 ἡ δὲ σοφία πόθεν εὑρέθη;
ποῖος δὲ τόπος ἐστὶν τῆς ἐπιστήμης;
But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?   "But where shall wisdom be found?
And where is the place of understanding?
A mortal has not known its way neither indeed has it been discovered among men.   Man does not know the way to it,
and it is not found in the land of the living.
The depth said It is not in me: and the sea said It is not with me.   The deep says, 'It is not in me,'
and the sea says, 'It is not with me.'
One shall not give fine gold instead of it neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.   It cannot be gotten for gold,
and silver cannot be weighed as its price.
Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir with the precious onyx and sapphire.   It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir,
in precious onyx or sapphire.
Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.   Gold and glass cannot equal it,
nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do thou esteem wisdom above the most precious things.   No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal;
the price of wisdom is above pearls.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.   The topaz of Ethiopia cannot compare with it,
nor can it be valued in pure gold.
20 ἡ δὲ σοφία πόθεν εὑρέθη;
ποῖος δὲ τόπος ἐστὶν τῆς συνέσεως;
Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?   "Whence then comes wisdom?
And where is the place of understanding?
It has escaped the notice of every man and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.   It is hid from the eyes of all living,
and concealed from the birds of the air.
Destruction and Death said We have heard the report of it.   Abaddon and Death say,
'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.'
God has well ordered the way of it and he knows the place of it.   "God understands the way to it,
and he knows its place.
For he surveys the whole [earth] under heaven knowing the things in the earth:   For he looks to the ends of the earth,
and sees everything under the heavens.
all that he has made; the weight of the winds the measures of the water.   When he gave to the wind its weight,
and meted out the waters by measure;
When he made [them] thus he saw and numbered them and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.   when he made a decree for the rain,
and a way for the lightning of the thunder;
Then he saw it and declared it: he prepared it [and] traced it out.   then he saw it and declared it;
he established it, and searched it out.
And he said to man Behold godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.   And he said to man,
'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;
and to depart from evil is understanding.'"

Notes: Format: For the canonical books the parallel passages on this page are seven columns width, reducing to four columns for the Apocrypha - Deuterocanonical books.
Printing: For the most readable option, set your printer to a Landscape setting before printing the page.
The Old Testament in Greek is Rahlf's LXX available in Word format at the Tyndale website, adapted to database format.
The alternative readings of the LXX - Judges (Alexandrinus), Daniel, Susanna & Bel (LXX received text), and Tobit (Sinaiticus [not printed in Swete]) as separate book references so that they can be viewed as an alternative text in parallel with the primary text.
(I have reversed the Swete presentation for Daniel, Susanna, Bel by listing in the later Theodotion LXX text as the main text. )
The LXX cross references to the Hebrew Bible have been extensively revised using those set out in Swete's 'Old Testament in Greek' publications between 1894 and 1909, amended in part to agree with verses as printed in the Biblia Hebraica (1937 publication).
Some verse cross references in Swete's had to be amended to agree with the BHS verse numbering, and there may well be some mismatches that I haven't yet picked up on. (If you find any errors please e-mail me.)
Hebrew Bible has been adapted from the BHS in Word format at Tyndale.
The Septuagint in English ( translated by Sir Lancelot CL Brenton) - is used here only for the books of the Hebrew Bible.
The Revised Standard Version: This generally follows the Hebrew Bible for the canonical OT,
but use this as the English Text for the remainder of the LXX (Apocrypha - Deuterocanonical books).
The katapi New Study Bible reference section: displays links to parallel passages.
Passage headings are generally as printed in the Bible Society's "Good News Bible", 1976.
