1Ἔτι δὲ προσθεὶς Ιωβ εἶπεν τῷ προοιμίῳ
 And Job continued and said in his parable,
Job's final statement of his case. Jb.29.1-31.40And Job again took up his discourse, and said:וַיֹּסֶף אִיֹּוב שְׂאֵת מְשָׁלֹו וַיֹּאמַר׃ 1
2Τίς ἄν με θείη κατὰ μῆνα ἔμπροσθεν ἡμερῶν, ὧν με ὁ θεὸς ἐφύλαξεν;
 Oh that I were as in months past,
wherein God preserved me!
 "Oh, that I were as in the months of old,
as in the days when God watched over me;
מִי־יִתְּנֵנִי כְיַרְחֵי־קֶדֶם כִּימֵי אֱלֹוהַּ יִשְׁמְרֵנִי׃ 2
3ὡς ὅτε ηὔγει ὁ λύχνος αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ κεφαλῆς μου,
ὅτε τῷ φωτὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπορευόμην ἐν σκότει·
 As when his lamp shone over my head;
when by his light I walked through darkness.
 when his lamp shone upon my head,
and by his light I walked through darkness;
בְּהִלֹּו נֵרֹו עֲלֵי רֹאשִׁי לְאֹורֹו אֵלֶךְ חֹשֶׁךְ׃ 3
4ὅτε ἤμην ἐπιβρίθων ὁδοῖς,
ὅτε ὁ θεὸς ἐπισκοπὴν ἐποιεῖτο τοῦ οἴκου μου·
 [As] when I steadfastly pursued my ways,
when God took care of my house.
 as I was in my autumn days,
when the friendship of God was upon my tent;
כַּאֲשֶׁר הָיִיתִי בִּימֵי חָרְפִּי בְּסֹוד אֱלֹוהַּ עֲלֵי אָהֳלִי׃ 4
5ὅτε ἤμην ὑλώδης λίαν,
κύκλῳ δέ μου οἱ παῖδες·
 When I was very fruitful,
and my children were about me;
 when the Almighty was yet with me,
when my children were about me;
בְּעֹוד שַׁדַּי עִמָּדִי סְבִיבֹותַי נְעָרָי׃ 5
6ὅτε ἐχέοντό μου αἱ ὁδοὶ βουτύρῳ,
τὰ δὲ ὄρη μου ἐχέοντο γάλακτι·
 when my ways were moistened with butter,
and the mountains flowed for me with milk.
 when my steps were washed with milk,
and the rock poured out for me streams of oil!
בִּרְחֹץ הֲלִיכַי בְּחֵמָה וְצוּר יָצוּק עִמָּדִי פַּלְגֵי־שָׁמֶן׃ 6
7ὅτε ἐξεπορευόμην ὄρθριος ἐν πόλει,
ἐν δὲ πλατείαις ἐτίθετό μου ὁ δίφρος.
 When I went forth early in the city,
and the seat was placed for me in the streets.
 When I went out to the gate of the city,
when I prepared my seat in the square,
בְּצֵאתִי שַׁעַר עֲלֵי־קָרֶת בָּרְחֹוב אָכִין מֹושָׁבִי׃ 7
8ἰδόντες με νεανίσκοι ἐκρύβησαν,
πρεσβῦται δὲ πάντες ἔστησαν·
 The young men saw me,
and hid themselves:
and all the old men stood up.
 the young men saw me and withdrew,
and the aged rose and stood;
רָאוּנִי נְעָרִים וְנֶחְבָּאוּ וִישִׁישִׁים קָמוּ עָמָדוּ׃ 8
9ἁδροὶ δὲ ἐπαύσαντο λαλοῦντες, δάκτυλον ἐπιθέντες ἐπὶ στόματι.
 And the great men ceased speaking,
and laid their finger on their mouth.
 the princes refrained from talking,
and laid their hand on their mouth;
שָׂרִים עָצְרוּ בְמִלִּים וְכַף יָשִׂימוּ לְפִיהֶם׃ 9
10οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες ἐμακάρισάν με,
καὶ γλῶσσα αὐτῶν τῷ λάρυγγι αὐτῶν ἐκολλήθη·
 And they that heard [me] blessed me,
and their tongue clave to their throat.
 the voice of the nobles was hushed,
and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
קֹול־נְגִידִים נֶחְבָּאוּ וּלְשֹׁונָם לְחִכָּם דָּבֵקָה׃ 10
11ὅτι οὖς ἤκουσεν καὶ ἐμακάρισέν με,
ὀφθαλμὸς δὲ ἰδών με ἐξέκλινεν.
 For the ear heard,
and blessed me;
and the eye saw me,
and turned aside.
 When the ear heard, it called me blessed,
and when the eye saw, it approved;
כִּי אֹזֶן שָׁמְעָה וַתְּאַשְּׁרֵנִי וְעַיִן רָאֲתָה וַתְּעִידֵנִי׃ 11
12διέσωσα γὰρ πτωχὸν ἐκ χειρὸς δυνάστου,
καὶ ὀρφανῷ, ᾧ οὐκ ἦν βοηθός, ἐβοήθησα·
 For I saved the poor out of the hand of the oppressor,
and helped the fatherless who had no helper.
 because I delivered the poor who cried,
and the fatherless who had none to help him.
כִּי־אֲמַלֵּט עָנִי מְשַׁוֵּעַ וְיָתֹום וְלֹא־עֹזֵר לֹו׃ 12
13εὐλογία ἀπολλυμένου ἐπ' ἐμὲ ἔλθοι,
στόμα δὲ χήρας με εὐλόγησεν.
 Let the blessing of the perishing one come upon me;
yes,
the mouth of the widow has blessed me.
 The blessing of him who was about to perish came upon me,
and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
בִּרְכַּת אֹבֵד עָלַי תָּבֹא וְלֵב אַלְמָנָה אַרְןִן׃ 13
14δικαιοσύνην δὲ ἐνεδεδύκειν,
ἠμφιασάμην δὲ κρίμα ἴσα διπλοίδι.
 Also I put on righteousness,
and clothed myself with judgment like a mantle.
 I put on righteousness,
and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban.
צֶדֶק לָבַשְׁתִּי וַיִּלְבָּשֵׁנִי כִּמְעִיל וְצָנִיף מִשְׁפָּטִי׃ 14
15ὀφθαλμὸς ἤμην τυφλῶν,
ποὺς δὲ χωλῶν.
 I was the eye of the blind,
and the foot of the lame.
 I was eyes to the blind,
and feet to the lame.
עֵינַיִם הָיִיתִי לַעִוֵּר וְרַגְלַיִם לַפִּסֵּחַ אָנִי׃ 15
16ἐγὼ ἤμην πατὴρ ἀδυνάτων,
δίκην δέ, ἣν οὐκ ᾔδειν, ἐξιχνίασα·
 I was the father of the helpless;
and I searched out the cause which I knew not.
 I was a father to the poor,
and I searched out the cause of him whom I did not know.
אָב אָנֹכִי לָאֶבְיֹונִים וְרִב לֹא־יָדַעְתִּי אֶחְקְרֵהוּ׃ 16
17συνέτριψα δὲ μύλας ἀδίκων,
ἐκ δὲ μέσου τῶν ὀδόντων αὐτῶν ἅρπαγμα ἐξέσπασα.
 And I broke the jaw-teeth of the unrighteous;
I plucked the spoil out of the midst of their teeth.
 I broke the fangs of the unrighteous,
and made him drop his prey from his teeth.
וָאֲשַׁבְּרָה מְתַלְּעֹות עַוָּל וּמִשִּׁנָּיו אַשְׁלִיךְ טָרֶף׃ 17
18εἶπα δέ Ἡ ἡλικία μου γηράσει,
ὥσπερ στέλεχος φοίνικος πολὺν χρόνον βιώσω·
 And I said, My age shall continue as the stem of a palm-tree;
I shall live a long while.
 Then I thought, 'I shall die in my nest,
and I shall multiply my days as the sand,
וָאֹמַר עִם־קִנִּי אֶגְוָע וְכַחֹול אַרְבֶּה יָמִים׃ 18
19ἡ ῥίζα μου διήνοικται ἐπὶ ὕδατος,
καὶ δρόσος αὐλισθήσεται ἐν τῷ θερισμῷ μου·
 [My] root was spread out by the water,
and the dew would lodge on my crop.
 my roots spread out to the waters,
with the dew all night on my branches,
שָׁרְשִׁי פָתוּחַ אֱלֵי־מָיִם וְטַל יָלִין בִּקְצִירִי׃ 19
20ἡ δόξα μου καινὴ μετ' ἐμοῦ,
καὶ τὸ τόξον μου ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ πορεύσεται.
 My glory was fresh in me,
and by bow prospered in his hand.
 my glory fresh with me,
and my bow ever new in my hand.'
כְּבֹודִי חָדָשׁ עִמָּדִי וְקַשְׁתִּי בְּיָדִי תַחֲלִיף׃ 20
21ἐμοῦ ἀκούσαντες προσέσχον,
ἐσιώπησαν δὲ ἐπὶ τῇ ἐμῇ βουλῇ·
 [Men] heard me, and gave heed,
and they were silent at my counsel.
 "Men listened to me, and waited,
and kept silence for my counsel.
לִי־שָׁמְעוּ וְיִחֵלּוּ וְיִדְּמוּ לְמֹו עֲצָתִי׃ 21
22ἐπὶ δὲ τῷ ἐμῷ ῥήματι οὐ προσέθεντο,
περιχαρεῖς δὲ ἐγίνοντο, ὁπόταν αὐτοῖς ἐλάλουν·
 At my word they spoke not again, and they were very gland whenever I spoke to them.
 After I spoke they did not speak again,
and my word dropped upon them.
אַחֲרֵי דְבָרִי לֹא יִשְׁנוּ וְעָלֵימֹו תִּטֹּף מִלָּתִי׃ 22
23ὥσπερ γῆ διψῶσα προσδεχομένη τὸν ὑετόν,
οὕτως οὗτοι τὴν ἐμὴν λαλιάν.
 As the thirsty earth expecting the rain,
so they [waited for] my speech.
 They waited for me as for the rain;
and they opened their mouths as for the spring rain.
וְיִחֲלוּ כַמָּטָר לִי וּפִיהֶם פָּעֲרוּ לְמַלְקֹושׁ׃ 23
24ἐὰν γελάσω πρὸς αὐτούς, οὐ μὴ πιστεύσωσιν·
καὶ φῶς τοῦ προσώπου μου οὐκ ἀπέπιπτεν·
 Were I to laugh on them, they would not believe [it];
and the light of my face has not failed.
 I smiled on them when they had no confidence;
and the light of my countenance they did not cast down.
אֶשְׂחַק אֲלֵהֶם לֹא יַאֲמִינוּ וְאֹור פָּנַי לֹא יַפִּילוּן׃ 24
25ἐξελεξάμην ὁδὸν αὐτῶν καὶ ἐκάθισα ἄρχων·
καὶ κατεσκήνουν ὡσεὶ βασιλεὺς ἐν μονοζώνοις ὃν τρόπον παθεινοὺς παρακαλῶν.
 I chose out their way, and sat chief,
and dwelt as a king in the midst of warriors,
as one comforting mourners.
 I chose their way, and sat as chief,
and I dwelt like a king among his troops,
like one who comforts mourners.		אֶבֲחַר דַּרְכָּם וְאֵשֵׁב רֹאשׁ וְאֶשְׁכֹּון כְּמֶלֶךְ בַּגְּדוּד
כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲבֵלִים יְנַחֵם׃ 		25
