| 10 | ΙΩΒ | Brenton(Lxx) | JOB | Revised Standard Version | JOB | 10 |
Weary in my soul, I will pour my words with groans upon him: I will speak being straitened in the bitterness of my soul. | "I loathe my life; I will give free utterance to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and why have you thus judged me? | I will say to God, Do not condemn me; let me know why thou dost contend against me.
Is it good before you if I be unrighteous? for you have disowned the work of your hands, and attended to the counsel of the ungodly. | Does it seem good to thee to oppress, to despise the work of thy hands and favor the designs of the wicked?
Or do you see as a mortal sees? or will you look as a man sees? | Hast thou eyes of flesh? Dost thou see as man sees? |
Or is your life human, or your years [the years] of a man, | Are thy days as the days of man, or thy years as man's years, | הֲכִימֵי אֱנֹושׁ יָמֶיךָ אִם־שְׁנֹותֶיךָ כִּימֵי גָבֶר׃ | 5
that you have enquired into mine iniquity, and searched out my sins? | that thou dost seek out my iniquity and search for my sin, | כִּי־תְבַקֵּשׁ לַעֲוֹנִי וּלְחַטָּאתִי תִדְרֹושׁ׃ | 6
For you know that I have not committed iniquity: but who is he that can deliver out of your hands? | although thou knowest that I am not guilty, and there is none to deliver out of thy hand?
Your hands have formed me and made me; afterwards you changed [your mind], and smite me. | Thy hands fashioned and made me; and now thou dost turn about and destroy me.
Remember that you have made me [as] clay, and you do turn me again to earth. | Remember that thou hast made me of clay; and wilt thou turn me to dust again?
Have you not poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese? | Didst thou not pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese? |
And you clothed me with skin and flesh, and frame me with bones and sinews. | Thou didst clothe me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.
And you bestowed upon me life and mercy, and your oversight has preserved my spirit. | Thou hast granted me life and steadfast love; and thy care has preserved my spirit.
Having these things in yourself, I know that you can do all things; for nothing is impossible with you. | Yet these things thou didst hide in thy heart; I know that this was thy purpose.
And if I should sin, you watch me; and you have not cleared me from iniquity. | If I sin, thou dost mark me, and dost not acquit me of my iniquity.
Or if I should be ungodly, woe is me: and if I should be righteous, I cannot lift myself up, for I am full of dishonour. | If I am wicked, woe to me! If I am righteous, I cannot lift up my head, for I am filled with disgrace and look upon my affliction.
For I am hunted like a lion for slaughter; for again you have changed and are destroying me terribly; | And if I lift myself up, thou dost hunt me like a lion, and again work wonders against me; | וְיִגְאֶה כַּשַּׁחַל תְּצוּדֵנִי וְתָשֹׁב תִּתְפַּלָּא־בִי׃ | 16
renewing against me my torture: and you have dealt with me in great anger, and you have brought trials upon me. | thou dost renew thy witnesses against me, and increase thy vexation toward me; thou dost bring fresh hosts against me.
Why then did you bring me out of the womb? and why did I not die, and no eye see me, | "Why didst thou bring me forth from the womb? Would that I had died before any eye had seen me, | וְלָמָּה מֵרֶחֶם הֹצֵאתָנִי אֶגְוַע וְעַיִן לֹא־תִרְאֵנִי׃ | 18
and I become as if I had not been? for why was I not carried from the womb to the grave? | and were as though I had not been, carried from the womb to the grave.
Is not the time of my life short? suffer me to rest a little, | Are not the days of my life few? Let me alone, that I may find a little comfort | הֲלֹא־מְעַט יָמַי [כ= יֶחְדָּל] [ק= וַחֲדָל] [כ= יָשִׁית] [ק= וְשִׁית] מִמֶּנִּי וְאַבְלִיגָה מְּעָט׃ | 20
before I go whence I shall not return, to a land of darkness and gloominess; | before I go whence I shall not return, to the land of gloom and deep darkness, | בְּטֶרֶם אֵלֵךְ וְלֹא אָשׁוּב אֶל־אֶרֶץ חֹשֶׁךְ וְצַלְמָוֶת׃ | 21
to a land of perpetual darkness, where there is no light, neither [can any one] see the life of mortals. | the land of gloom and chaos, where light is as darkness."
