20 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

24"Show me a coin. Whose likeness and inscription has it?" They said, "Caesar's." The Denouncing of the Scribes Lk.20.45-47 (Jerusalem) | Mt.23.1-36 | Mk.12.38-40 | Lk.11.37-54Δείξατέ μοι δηνάριον· τίνος ἐχει εἰκόνα καὶ ἐπιγραφήν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, Καίσαρος.
25He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
26And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him by what he said; but marveling at his answer they were silent.
27There came to him some Sadducees, those who say that there is no resurrection,The Question about the Resurrection Lk.20.27-40 (Jerusalem) | Mt.22.23-33 | Mk.12.18-27Προσελθόντες δέ τινες τῶν Σαδδουκαίων, οἱ ἀντιλέγοντες ἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν
28and they asked him a question, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother.
29Now there were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and died without children;
30and the second καὶ ὁ δεύτερος
31and the third took her, and likewise all seven left no children and died.
32Afterward the woman also died.
33In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife."
34And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage;  καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, Οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου γαμοῦσιν καὶ γαμίσκονται,
35but those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὐτε γαμοῦσιν οὐτε γαμίζονται·
36for they cannot die any more, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
37But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.- even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush Lk.20.37 | Ex.3.2-6ὁτι δὲ ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροὶ καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐμήνυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς βάτου, ὡς λέγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν Ἀβραὰμ καὶ θεὸν Ἰσαὰκ καὶ θεὸν Ἰακώβ·
38Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him."
39And some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you have spoken well."
40For they no longer dared to ask him any question.
41But he said to them, "How can they say that the Christ is David's son? The Question about David's Son Lk.20.41-44 (Jerusalem) | Mt.22.41-46 | Mk.12.35-37Εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, Πῶς λέγουσιν τὸν Χριστὸν εἶναι Δαυὶδ υἱόν;
42For David himself says in the Book of Psalms,

'The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at my right hand,

- The Lord said to my Lord Lk.20.42-44 | Ps.110.1αὐτὸς γὰρ Δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν,

43till I make your enemies a stool for your feet.'
44David thus calls him Lord; so how is he his son?" Δαυὶδ οὖν κύριον αὐτὸν καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς αὐτοῦ υἱός ἐστιν;
45And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples,
46"Beware of the scribes, who like to go about in long robes, and love salutations in the market places and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at feasts,  Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις ,
47who devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation."

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
