New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26) |
| 36 | JESUS THEN CAME with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, 'Sit here while I go over there to pray.' | The Prayer in Gethsemane Mt.26.36-46 (Gethsemane) | Mk.14.32-42 | Lk.22.39-46 | Τότε ἐρχεται μετ' αὐτῶν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς χωρίον λεγόμενον Γεθσημανί, καὶ λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς, Καθίσατε αὐτοῦ ἑως οὗ ἀπελθὼν ἐκεῖ προσεύξωμαι. |
| 37 | He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee. Anguish and dismay came over him, | | καὶ παραλαβὼν τὸν Πέτρον καὶ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς Ζεβεδαίου ἠρξατο λυπεῖσθαι καὶ ἀδημονεῖν. |
| 38 | and he said to them, 'My heart is ready to break with grief. Stop here, and stay awake with me.' |
| 39 | He went on a little, fell on his face in prayer, and said, 'My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass me by. Yet not as I will, but as thou wilt.'
| 40 | He came to the disciples and found them asleep; and he said to Peter, 'What! Could none of you stay awake with me one hour?
| 41 | Stay awake, and pray that you may be spared the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.'
| 42 | He went away a second time, and prayed: 'My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to pass me by without my drinking it, thy will be done.' |
| 43 | He came again and found them asleep, for their eyes were heavy. |
| 44 | So he left them and went away again; and he prayed the third time, using the same words as before.
| 45 | Then he came to the disciples and said to them, 'Still sleeping? Still taking your ease? The hour has come! The Son of Man is betrayed to sinful men. |
| 46 | Up, let us go forward; the traitor is upon us.'
