12 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

12 1ONCE ABOUT THAT TIME Jesus went through the cornfields on the Sabbath; and his disciples, feeling hungry, began to pluck some ears of corn and eat them.Plucking Grain on the Sabbath Mt.12.1-8 (Galilee) | Mk.2.23-28 | Lk.6.1-5Ἐν ἐκείνῳ τῷ καιρῷ ἐπορεύθη ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῖς σάββασιν διὰ τῶν σπορίμων· οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπείνασαν, καὶ ἠρξαντο τίλλειν στάχυας καὶ ἐσθίειν.
2The Pharisees noticed this, and said to him, 'Look, your disciples are doing something which is forbidden on the Sabbath.'
3He answered, 'Have you not read what David did when he and his men were hungry? ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τί ἐποίησεν Δαυὶδ ὅτε ἐπείνασεν καὶ οἱ μετ' αὐτοῦ;
4He went into the House of God and ate the consecrated loaves, though neither he nor his men had a right to eat them, but only the priests. πῶς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἀρτους τῆς προθέσεως ἐφαγον, ὃ οὐκ ἐξὸν ἦν αὐτῷ φαγεῖν οὐδὲ τοῖς μετ' αὐτοῦ, εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν μόνοις;
5Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and it is not held against them? ἢ οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ἐν τῷ νόμῳ ὅτι τοῖς σάββασιν οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τὸ σάββατον βεβηλοῦσιν καὶ ἀναίτιοί εἰσιν;
6I tell you, there is something greater than the temple here. λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῦ ἱεροῦ μεῖζόν ἐστιν ὧδε.
7If you had known what that text means, "I require mercy, not sacrifice", you would not have condemned the innocent.- I desire mercy, and not sacrifice Mt.12.7 | Hs.6.6εἰ δὲ ἐγνώκειτε τί ἐστιν, Ἔλεος θέλω καὶ οὐ θυσίαν, οὐκ ἂν κατεδικάσατε τοὺς ἀναιτίους.
8For the Son of Man is sovereign over the Sabbath.'
 κύριος γάρ ἐστιν τοῦ σαββάτου ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.
