13 1David consulted with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with every leader. The Ark is moved from Kiriath Jearim.
2And David said to all the assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and if it is the will of Yahweh our God, let us send abroad to our brethren who remain in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites in the cities that have pasture lands, that they may come together to us.
3Then let us bring again the ark of our God to us; for we neglected it in the days of Saul."
4All the assembly agreed to do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.
5So David assembled all Israel from the Shihor of Egypt to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.
6And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim which belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of Yahweh who sits enthroned above the cherubim.
7And they carried the ark of God upon a new cart, from the house of Abinadab, and Uzzah and Ahio were driving the cart.
8And David and all Israel were making merry before God with all their might, with song and lyres and harps and tambourines and cymbals and trumpets.
9And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.
10And the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Uzzah; and he smote him because he put forth his hand to the ark; and he died there before God.
11And David was angry because Yahweh had broken forth upon Uzzah; and that place is called Perez-uzza to this day.
12And David was afraid of God that day; and he said, "How can I bring the ark of God home to me?"
13So David did not take the ark home into the city of David, but took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
14And the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months; and Yahweh blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that he had.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
