Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. | Inheritance of daughters. Nu.27.1-11 | וַתִּקְרַבְנָה בְּנֹות צְלָפְחָד בֶּן־חֵפֶר בֶּן־גִּלְעָד בֶּן־מָכִיר בֶּן־מְנַשֶּׁה לְמִשְׁפְּחֹת מְנַשֶּׁה בֶן־יֹוסֵף וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמֹות בְּנֹתָיו מַחְלָה נֹעָה וְחָגְלָה וּמִלְכָּה וְתִרְצָה׃ |

And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, at the door of the tent of meeting, saying, | | וַתַּעֲמֹדְנָה לִפְנֵי מֹשֶׁה וְלִפְנֵי אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וְלִפְנֵי הַנְּשִׂיאִם וְכָל־הָעֵדָה פֶּתַח אֹהֶל־מֹועֵד לֵאמֹר׃ |

"Our father died in the wilderness; he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against Yahweh in the company of Korah, but died for his own sin; and he had no sons. | | אָבִינוּ מֵת בַּמִּדְבָּר וְהוּא לֹא־הָיָה בְּתֹוךְ הָעֵדָה הַנֹּועָדִים עַל־יְהוָה בַּעֲדַת־קֹרַח כִּי־בְחֶטְאֹו מֵת וּבָנִים לֹא־הָיוּ לֹו׃ |

Why should the name of our father be taken away from his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father's brethren." | | לָמָּה יִגָּרַע שֵׁם־אָבִינוּ מִתֹּוךְ מִשְׁפַּחְתֹּו כִּי אֵין לֹו בֵּן תְּנָה־לָּנוּ אֲחֻזָּה בְּתֹוךְ אֲחֵי אָבִינוּ׃ |

Moses brought their case before Yahweh. | | וַיַּקְרֵב מֹשֶׁה אֶת־מִשְׁפָּטָן לִפְנֵי יְהוָה׃ ס |
| 6 |
And Yahweh said to Moses, | | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר׃ |
| 7 |
"The daughters of Zelophehad are right; you shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. | | כֵּן בְּנֹות צְלָפְחָד דֹּבְרֹת נָתֹן תִּתֵּן לָהֶם אֲחֻזַּת נַחֲלָה בְּתֹוךְ אֲחֵי אֲבִיהֶם וְהַעֲבַרְתָּ אֶת־נַחֲלַת אֲבִיהֶן לָהֶן׃ |

And you shall say to the people of Israel, 'If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter. | | וְאֶל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל תְּדַבֵּר לֵאמֹר אִישׁ כִּי־יָמוּת וּבֵן אֵין לֹו וְהַעֲבַרְתֶּם אֶת־נַחֲלָתֹו לְבִתֹּו׃ |

And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. | | וְאִם־אֵין לֹו בַּת וּנְתַתֶּם אֶת־נַחֲלָתֹו לְאֶחָיו׃ |
| 10 |
And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father's brothers. | | וְאִם־אֵין לֹו אַחִים וּנְתַתֶּם אֶת־נַחֲלָתֹו לַאֲחֵי אָבִיו׃ |
| 11 |
And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be to the people of Israel a statute and ordinance, as Yahweh commanded Moses.' " | | וְאִם־אֵין אַחִים לְאָבִיו וּנְתַתֶּם אֶת־נַחֲלָתֹו לִשְׁאֵרֹו הַקָּרֹב אֵלָיו מִמִּשְׁפַּחְתֹּו וְיָרַשׁ אֹתָהּ וְהָיְתָה לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְחֻקַּת מִשְׁפָּט כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֶת־מֹשֶׁה׃ ס |

Yahweh said to Moses, "Go up into this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the people of Israel. | Joshua appointed to succeed Moses. Nu.27.12-23 | Dt.31.1-8 | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה עֲלֵה אֶל־הַר הָעֲבָרִים הַזֶּה וּרְאֵה אֶת־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |

And when you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was gathered, | | וְרָאִיתָה אֹתָהּ וְנֶאֱסַפְתָּ אֶל־עַמֶּיךָ גַּם־אָתָּה כַּאֲשֶׁר נֶאֱסַף אַהֲרֹן אָחִיךָ׃ |

because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin during the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes." (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.) | | כַּאֲשֶׁר מְרִיתֶם פִּי בְּמִדְבַּר־צִן בִּמְרִיבַת הָעֵדָה לְהַקְדִּישֵׁנִי בַמַּיִם לְעֵינֵיהֶם הֵם מֵי־מְרִיבַת קָדֵשׁ מִדְבַּר־צִן׃ ף |
| 15 |
Moses said to Yahweh, | | וַיְדַבֵּר מֹשֶׁה אֶל־יְהוָה לֵאמֹר׃ |
| 16 |
"Let Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation, | | יִפְקֹד יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי הָרוּחֹת לְכָל־בָּשָׂר אִישׁ עַל־הָעֵדָה׃ |
| 17 |
who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in; that the congregation of Yahweh may not be as sheep which have no shepherd." | | אֲשֶׁר־יֵצֵא לִפְנֵיהֶם וַאֲשֶׁר יָבֹא לִפְנֵיהֶם וַאֲשֶׁר יֹוצִיאֵם וַאֲשֶׁר יְבִיאֵם וְלֹא תִהְיֶה עֲדַת יְהוָה כַּצֹּאן אֲשֶׁר אֵין־לָהֶם רֹעֶה׃ |

And Yahweh said to Moses, "Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand upon him; | | וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה קַח־לְךָ אֶת־יְהֹושֻׁעַ בִּן־נוּן אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר־רוּחַ בֹּו וְסָמַכְתָּ אֶת־יָדְךָ עָלָיו׃ |

cause him to stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall commission him in their sight. | | וְהַעֲמַדְתָּ אֹתֹו לִפְנֵי אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וְלִפְנֵי כָּל־הָעֵדָה וְצִוִּיתָה אֹתֹו לְעֵינֵיהֶם׃ |
| 20 |
You shall invest him with some of your authority, that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey. | | וְנָתַתָּה מֵהֹודְךָ עָלָיו לְמַעַן יִשְׁמְעוּ כָּל־עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ |
| 21 |
And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Yahweh; at his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation." | | וְלִפְנֵי אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן יַעֲמֹד וְשָׁאַל לֹו בְּמִשְׁפַּט הָאוּרִים לִפְנֵי יְהוָה עַל־פִּיו יֵצְאוּ וְעַל־פִּיו יָבֹאוּ הוּא וְכָל־בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אִתֹּו וְכָל־הָעֵדָה׃ |
| 22 |
And Moses did as Yahweh commanded him; he took Joshua and caused him to stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, | | וַיַּעַשׂ מֹשֶׁה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֹתֹו וַיִּקַּח אֶת־יְהֹושֻׁעַ וַיַּעֲמִדֵהוּ לִפְנֵי אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וְלִפְנֵי כָּל־הָעֵדָה׃ |

and he laid his hands upon him, and commissioned him as Yahweh directed through Moses. | | וַיִּסְמֹךְ אֶת־יָדָיו עָלָיו וַיְצַוֵּהוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁה׃ ף |
