 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLEGalatians:3 Novum Testamentum Graece (UBS.Ed.26)

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? Law or Faith Ga.3.1-14Ὦ ἀνόητοι Γαλάται, τίς ὑμᾶς ἐβάσκανεν, οἷς κατ' ὀφθαλμοὺς Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς προεγράφη ἐσταυρωμένος;
Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?  τοῦτο μόνον θέλω μαθεῖν ἀφ' ὑμῶν, ἐξ ἐργων νόμου τὸ Πνεῦμα ἐλάβετε ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως;
Are you so foolish? Having begun with the Spirit, are you now ending with the flesh?  οὑτως ἀνόητοί ἐστὲ ἐναρξάμενοι πνεύματι νῦν σαρκὶ ἐπιτελεῖσθὲ;
Did you experience so many things in vain? - if it really is in vain.
Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?  ὁ οὖν ἐπιχορηγῶν ὑμῖν τὸ Πνεῦμα καὶ ἐνεργῶν δυνάμεις ἐν ὑμῖν ἐξ ἐργων νόμου ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως;
Thus Abraham "believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness."
So you see that it is men of faith who are the sons of Abraham.
And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed." - In you shall all the nations be blessed Ga.3.8 | Gn.12.3προϊδοῦσα δὲ ἡ γραφὴ ὅτι ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοῖ τὰ ἐθνη ὁ θεὸς προευηγγελίσατο τῷ Ἀβραὰμ ὅτι Ἐνευλογηθήσονται ἐν σοὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη.
So then, those who are men of faith are blessed with Abraham who had faith.
For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, and do them." - Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book Ga.3.10 | Dt.27.26ὁσοι γὰρ ἐξ ἐργων νόμου εἰσὶν ὑπὸ κατάραν εἰσίν· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι Ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὃς οὐκ ἐμμένει πᾶσιν τοῖς γεγραμμένοις ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου τοῦ ποιῆσαι αὐτά.
Now it is evident that no man is justified before God by the law; for "He who through faith is righteous shall live"; - He who through faith is righteous shall live Ga.3.11 | Hab.2.4ὁτι δὲ ἐν νόμῳ οὐδεὶς δικαιοῦται παρὰ τῷ θεῷ δῆλον, ὅτι Ὁ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεως ζήσετα·
but the law does not rest on faith, for "He who does them shall live by them." - He who does them shall live by them Ga.3.12 | Lv.18.5ὁ δὲ νόμος οὐκ ἐστιν ἐκ πίστεως, ἀλλ' Ὁ ποιήσας αὐτὰ ζήσεται ἐν αὐτοῖς.
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us - for it is written, "Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree" - - Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree Ga.3.13 | Dt.21.23Χριστὸς ἡμᾶς ἐξηγόρασεν ἐκ τῆς κατάρας τοῦ νόμου γενόμενος ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν κατάρα, ὅτι γέγραπται, Ἐπικατάρατος πᾶς ὁ κρεμάμενος ἐπὶ ξύλου,
that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
To give a human example, brethren: no one annuls even a man's will, or adds to it, once it has been ratified. The Law and the Promise Ga.3.15-20Ἀδελφοί, κατὰ ἄνθρωπον λέγω· ὁμως ἀνθρώπου κεκυρωμένην διαθήκην οὐδεὶς ἀθετεῖ ἢ ἐπιδιατάσσεται.
Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, "And to offsprings," referring to many; but, referring to one, "And to your offspring," which is Christ. - Now the promises were made to Abraham Ga.3.16 | Gn.12.7 | Gn.13.15 | Gn.17.7τῷ δὲ Ἀβραὰμ ἐρρέθησαν αἱ ἐπαγγελίαι καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ.
This is what I mean: the law, which came four hundred and thirty years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.
For if the inheritance is by the law, it is no longer by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.
Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made; and it was ordained by angels through an intermediary.
Now an intermediary implies more than one; but God is one.
Is the law then against the promises [of God]? Certainly not; for if a law had been given which could make alive, then righteousness would indeed be by the law.
But the scripture consigned all things to sin, that what was promised to faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Now before faith came, we were confined under the law, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed.
So that the law was our custodian until Christ came, that we might be justified by faith.
But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian;
for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.

Notes: This webpage enables you to select-a-version from the Bible versions held on the katapi bible database.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have printed 'YHWH' in black. The later vowel sounds I have shown in the colour gray;
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
