 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLERomans:15Novum Testamentum Graece (UBS.Ed.26)

1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves; Please Your Fellow Men, Not Yourself Ro.15.1-6Ὀφείλομεν δὲ ἡμεῖς οἱ δυνατοὶ τὰ ἀσθενήματα τῶν ἀδυνάτων βαστάζειν, καὶ μὴ ἑαυτοῖς ἀρέσκειν.
2 let each of us please his neighbour for his good, to edify him.
3 For Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me." - The reproaches of those who reproached thee fell on me Ro.15.3 | Ps.69.9καὶ γὰρ ὁ Χριστὸς οὐχ ἑαυτῷ ἠρεσεν· ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται, Oἱ ὀνειδισμοὶ τῶν ὀνειδιζόντων σε ἐπέπεσαν ἐπ' ἐμέ.
4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.
5 May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,  ὁ δὲ θεὸς τῆς ὑπομονῆς καὶ τῆς παρακλήσεως δῴη ὑμῖν τὸ αὐτὸ φρονεῖν ἐν ἀλλήλοις κατὰ Χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν,
6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7 Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. The Gospel for Jews and Gentiles Alike Ro.15.7-13Διὸ προσλαμβάνεσθε ἀλλήλους, καθὼς καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς προσελάβετο ὑμᾶς, εἰς δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ.
8 For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs,
9 and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written,

"Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles,
and sing to your name";

- Therefore I will praise thee Ro.15.9 | Ps.18.49 | 2Sm.22.50τὰ δὲ ἐθνη ὑπὲρ ἐλέους δοξάσαι τὸν θεόν· καθὼς γέγραπται,

10 and again it is said,

"Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people";

- Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people Ro.15.10 | Dt.32.43καὶ πάλιν λέγει,

11 and again,

"Praise the Lord, all Gentiles,
and let all the peoples praise him";

- Praise the Lord, all Gentiles Ro.15.11 | Ps.117.1καὶ πάλιν,

12 and further Isaiah says,

"The root of Jesse shall come,
he who rises to rule the Gentiles;
in him shall the Gentiles hope."

- The root of Jesse shall come Ro.15.12 | Is.11.10καὶ πάλιν Ἠσαΐας λέγει,

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
14 I myself am satisfied about you, my brethren, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct one another.
15 But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by God
16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
17 In Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to be proud of my work for God.
18 For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has wrought through me to win obedience from the Gentiles, by word and deed,  οὐ γὰρ τολμήσω τι λαλεῖν ὧν οὐ κατειργάσατο Χριστὸς δῖ ἐμοῦ εἰς ὑπακοὴν ἐθνῶν, λόγῳ καὶ ἐργῳ,
19 by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Holy Spirit, so that from Jerusalem and as far round as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ,  ἐν δυνάμει σημείων καὶ τεράτων, ἐν δυνάμει πνεύματος [θεοῦ]· ὡστε με ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ κύκλῳ μέχρι τοῦ Ἰλλυρικοῦ πεπληρωκέναι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ,
20 thus making it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on another man's foundation,
21 but as it is written,

"They shall see who have never been told of him,
and they shall understand who have never heard of him."

- They shall see who have never been told of him Ro.15.21 | Is.52.15ἀλλὰ καθὼς γέγραπται,

22 This is the reason why I have so often been hindered from coming to you. Paul's Plan to Visit Rome Ro.15.22-33Διὸ καὶ ἐνεκοπτόμην τὰ πολλὰ τοῦ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς·
23 But now, since I no longer have any room for work in these regions, and since I have longed for many years to come to you,
24 I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain, and to be sped on my journey there by you, once I have enjoyed your company for a little.
25 At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem with aid for the saints.
26 For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem;
27 they were pleased to do it, and indeed they are in debt to them, for if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings.
28 When therefore I have completed this, and have delivered to them what has been raised, I shall go on by way of you to Spain;
29 and I know that when I come to you I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of Christ.
30 I appeal to you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf,
31 that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,  ἵνα ῥυσθῶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀπειθούντων ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ καὶ ἡ διακονία μου ἡ εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ εὐπρόσδεκτος τοῖς ἀγίοις γένηται,
32 so that by God's will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company.
33 The Lord of peace be with you all. Amen.

Notes: This webpage enables you to select-a-version from the Bible versions held on the katapi bible database.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have printed 'YHWH' in black. The later vowel sounds I have shown in the colour gray;
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
