1Ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ελιους λέγει
 And Elius continued, and said,
 Then Eli'hu said:וַיַּעַן אֱלִיהוּא וַיֹּאמַר׃ 1
2Ἀκούσατέ μου, σοφοί·
ἐπιστάμενοι, ἐνωτίζεσθε τὸ καλόν·
 Hear me, you wise men;
listen, you that have knowledge.
 "Hear my words, you wise men,
and give ear to me, you who know;
שִׁמְעוּ חֲכָמִים מִלָּי וְיֹדְעִים הַאֲזִינוּ לִי׃ 2
3ὅτι οὖς λόγους δοκιμάζει, καὶ λάρυγξ γεύεται βρῶσιν.
 For the ear tries words,
and the mouth tastes meat.
 for the ear tests words
as the palate tastes food.
כִּי־אֹזֶנ מִלִּין תִּבְחָן וְחֵךְ יִטְעַם לֶאֱכֹל׃ 3
4κρίσιν ἑλώμεθα ἑαυτοῖς,
γνῶμεν ἀνὰ μέσον ἑαυτῶν ὅ τι καλόν.
 Let us choose judgment to ourselves:
let us know amount ourselves what is right.
 Let us choose what is right;
let us determine among ourselves what is good.
מִשְׁפָּט נִבְחֲרָה־לָּנוּ נֵדְעָה בֵינֵינוּ מַה־טֹּוב׃ 4
5ὅτι εἴρηκεν Ιωβ Δίκαιός εἰμι,
ὁ κύριος ἀπήλλαξέν μου τὸ κρίμα,
 For Job has said, I am righteous:
the Lord has removed my judgment.
 For Job has said, 'I am innocent,
and God has taken away my right;
כִּי־אָמַר אִיֹּוב צָדַקְתִּי וְאֵל הֵסִיר מִשְׁפָּטִי׃ 5
6ἐψεύσατο δὲ τῷ κρίματί μου,
βίαιον τὸ βέλος μου ἄνευ ἀδικίας.
 And he has erred in my judgment:
my wound is severe without unrighteousness [of mine].
 in spite of my right I am counted a liar;
my wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.'
עַל־מִשְׁפָּטִי אֲכַזֵּב אָנוּשׁ חִצִּי בְלִי־פָשַׁע׃ 6
7τίς ἀνὴρ ὥσπερ Ιωβ πίνων μυκτηρισμὸν ὥσπερ ὕδωρ;
 What man is as Job,
drinking scorning like water?
 What man is like Job,
who drinks up scoffing like water,
מִי־גֶבֶר כְּאִיֹּוב יִשְׁתֶּה־לַּעַג כַּמָּיִם׃ 7
8οὐχ ἁμαρτὼν οὐδὲ ἀσεβήσας ἢ ὁδοῦ κοινωνήσας μετὰ ποιούντων τὰ ἄνομα τοῦ πορευθῆναι μετὰ ἀσεβῶν;
 [saying], I have not sinned, nor committed ungodliness,
nor had fellowship with workers of iniquity, to go with the ungodly.
 who goes in company with evildoers
and walks with wicked men?
וְאָרַח לְחֶבְרָה עִם־פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן וְלָלֶכֶת עִם־אַנְשֵׁי־רֶשַׁע׃ 8
9μὴ γὰρ εἴπῃς ὅτι Οὐκ ἔσται ἐπισκοπὴ ἀνδρός·
καὶ ἐπισκοπὴ αὐτῷ παρὰ Κυρίου.
 For you should not say, There shall be no visitation of a man,
whereas [there is] a visitation on him from the Lord.
 For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing
that he should take delight in God.'
כִּי־אָמַר לֹא יִסְכָּן־גָּבֶר בִּרְצֹתֹו עִם־אֱלֹהִים׃ 9
10διό, συνετοὶ καρδίας, ἀκούσατέ μου
Μή μοι εἴη ἔναντι κυρίου ἀσεβῆσαι,
καὶ ἔναντι παντοκράτορος ταράξαι τὸ δίκαιον·
 Why hear me, you that are wise in heart:
far be it from me to sin before the Lord,
and to pervert righteousness before the almighty.
 "Therefore, hear me, you men of understanding,
far be it from God that he should do wickedness,
and from the Almighty that he should do wrong.
לָכֵן אַנֲשֵׁי לֵבָב שִׁמְעוּ לִי
חָלִלָה לָאֵל מֵרֶשַׁע וְשַׁדַּי מֵעָוֶל׃		 10
11ἀλλὰ ἀποδιδοῖ ἀνθρώπῳ καθὰ ποιεῖ ἕκαστος αὐτῶν,
καὶ ἐν τρίβῳ ἀνδρὸς εὑρήσει αὐτόν.
 Yes, he renders to a man accordingly as each of them does,
and in a man's path he will find him.
 For according to the work of a man he will requite him,
and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
כִּי פֹעַל אָדָם יְשַׁלֶּם־לֹו וּכְאֹרַח אִישׁ יַמְצִאֶנּוּ׃ 11
12οἴῃ δὲ τὸν κύριον ἄτοπα ποιήσειν;
ἢ ὁ παντοκράτωρ ταράξει κρίσιν;
 And do you think that the Lord will do wrong,
or will the Almighty who made the earth wrest judgment?
 Of a truth, God will not do wickedly,
and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
אַף־אָמְנָם אֵל לֹא־יַרְשִׁיעַ וְשַׁדַּי לֹא־יְעַוֵּת מִשְׁפָּט׃ 12
13ὃς ἐποίησεν τὴν γῆν·
τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ ποιῶν τὴν ὑπ' οὐρανὸν καὶ τὰ ἐνόντα πάντα;
 And who is he that made [the whole world] under heaven, and all things therein?
 Who gave him charge over the earth
and who laid on him the whole world?
מִי־פָקַד עָלָיו אָרְצָה וּמִי שָׂם תֵּבֵל כֻּלָּהּ׃ 13
14εἰ γὰρ βούλοιτο συνέχειν καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα παρ' αὐτῷ κατασχεῖν,
 For if he would confine,
and restrain his spirit with himself;
 If he should take back his spirit to himself,
and gather to himself his breath,
אִם־יָשִׂים אֵלָיו לִבֹּו רוּחֹו וְנִשְׁמָתֹו אֵלָיו יֶאֱסֹף׃ 14
15τελευτήσει πᾶσα σὰρξ ὁμοθυμαδόν,
πᾶς δὲ βροτὸς εἰς γῆν ἀπελεύσεται, ὅθεν καὶ ἐπλάσθη.
 all flesh would die together,
and every mortal would return to the earth,
whence also he was formed.
 all flesh would perish together,
and man would return to dust.
יִגְוַע כָּל־בָּשָׂר יָחַד וְאָדָם עַל־עָפָר יָשׁוּב׃ 15
16εἰ δὲ μὴ νουθετῇ, ἄκουε ταῦτα,
ἐνωτίζου φωνὴν ῥημάτων.
 Take heed lest he rebuke [you]:
hear this, listen to the voice of words.
 "If you have understanding, hear this;
listen to what I say.
וְאִם־בִּינָה שִׁמְעָה־זֹּאת הַאֲזִינָה לְקֹול מִלָּי׃ 16
17ἰδὲ σὺ τὸν μισοῦντα ἄνομα καὶ τὸν ὀλλύντα τοὺς πονηροὺς ὄντα αἰώνιον δίκαιον.
 Behold then the one that hates iniquities,
and that destroys the wicked,
who is for ever just.
 Shall one who hates justice govern?
Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty,
הַאַף שֹׂונֵא מִשְׁפָּט יַחֲבֹושׁ וְאִם־צַדִּיק כַּבִּיר תַּרְשִׁיעַ׃ 17
18ἀσεβὴς ὁ λέγων βασιλεῖ Παρανομεῖς,
ἀσεβέστατε τοῖς ἄρχουσιν·
 [He is] ungodly that says to a king,
You are a transgressor,
[that says] to princes,
O most ungodly one.
 who says to a king, 'Worthless one,'
and to nobles, 'Wicked man';
הַאֲמֹר לְמֶלֶךְ בְּלִיָּעַל רָשָׁע אֶל־נְדִיבִים׃ 18
19ὃς οὐκ ἐπῃσχύνθη πρόσωπον ἐντίμου,
οὐδὲ οἶδεν τιμὴν θέσθαι ἁδροῖς θαυμασθῆναι πρόσωπα αὐτῶν.
 [Such a one] as would not reverence the face of an honourable man,
neither knows how to give honour to the great,
so as that their persons should be respected.
 who shows no partiality to princes,
nor regards the rich more than the poor,
for they are all the work of his hands?
אֲשֶׁר לֹא־נָשָׂא פְּנֵי שָׂרִים וְלֹא נִכַּר־שֹׁועַ לִפְנֵי־דָל
כִּי־מַעֲשֵׂה יָדָיו כֻּלָּם׃ 		19
20κενὰ δὲ αὐτοῖς ἀποβήσεται τὸ κεκραγέναι καὶ δεῖσθαι ἀνδρός·
ἐχρήσαντο γὰρ παρανόμως ἐκκλινομένων ἀδυνάτων.
 But it shall turn out vanity to them,
to cry and beseech a man;
for they dealt unlawfully,
the poor being turned aside [from their right].
 In a moment they die; at midnight the people are shaken
and pass away, and the mighty are taken away by no human hand.
רֶגַע יָמֻתוּ וַחֲצֹות לָיְלָה יְגֹעֲשׁוּ עָם וְיַעֲבֹרוּ וְיָסִירוּ אַבִּיר לֹא בְיָד׃ 20
21αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁρατής ἐστιν ἔργων ἀνθρώπων,
λέληθεν δὲ αὐτὸν οὐδὲν ὧν πράσσουσιν,
 For he surveys the works of men,
and nothing of what they do has escaped him.
 "For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,
and he sees all his steps.
כִּי־עֵינָיו עַל־דַּרְכֵי־אִישׁ וְכָל־צְעָדָיו יִרְאֶה׃ 21
22οὐδὲ ἔσται τόπος τοῦ κρυβῆναι τοὺς ποιοῦντας τὰ ἄνομα·
 Neither shall there be a place for the workers of iniquity to hide themselves.
 There is no gloom or deep darkness
where evildoers may hide themselves.
אֵין־חֹשֶׁךְ וְאֵין צַלְמָוֶת לְהִסָּתֶר שָׁם פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן׃ 22
23ὅτι οὐκ ἐπ' ἄνδρα θήσει ἔτι·
ὁ γὰρ κύριος πάντας ἐφορᾷ
 For he will not lay upon a man more [than right].
 For he has not appointed a time
for any man to go before God in judgment.
כִּי לֹא עַל־אִישׁ יָשִׂים עֹוד לַהֲלֹךְ אֶל־אֵל בַּמִּשְׁפָּט׃ 23
24ὁ καταλαμβάνων ἀνεξιχνίαστα,
ἔνδοξά τε καὶ ἐξαίσια,
ὧν οὐκ ἔστιν ἀριθμός·
 For the Lord looks down upon all men,
who comprehends unsearchable things,
glorious also and excellent things without number.
 He shatters the mighty without investigation,
and sets others in their place.
יָרֹעַ כַּבִּירִים לֹא־חֵקֶר וַיַּעֲמֵד אֲחֵרִים תַּחְתָּם׃ 24
25ὁ γνωρίζων αὐτῶν τὰ ἔργα καὶ στρέψει νύκτα,
καὶ ταπεινωθήσονται.
 Who discovers their works,
and will bring night about [upon them],
and they shall be brought low.
 Thus, knowing their works,
he overturns them in the night, and they are crushed.
לָכֵן יַכִּיר מַעְבָּדֵיהֶם וְהָפַךְ לַיְלָה וְיִדַּכָּאוּ׃ 25
26ἔσβεσεν δὲ ἀσεβεῖς,
ὁρατοὶ δὲ ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ,
 And he quite destroys the ungodly,
for they are seen before him.
 He strikes them for their wickedness in the sight of men,
תַּחַת־רְשָׁעִים סְפָקָם בִּמְקֹום רֹאִים׃ 26
27ὅτι ἐξέκλιναν ἐκ νόμου θεοῦ,
δικαιώματα δὲ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν
 Because they turned aside from the law of God,
and did not regard his ordinances,
 because they turned aside from following him,
and had no regard for any of his ways,
אֲשֶׁר עַל־כֵּן סָרוּ מֵאַחֲרָיו וְכָל־דְּרָכָיו לֹא הִשְׂכִּילוּ׃ 27
28τοῦ ἐπαγαγεῖν ἐπ' αὐτὸν κραυγὴν πένητος,
καὶ κραυγὴν πτωχῶν εἰσακούσεται.
 so as to bring before him the cry of the needy;
for he will hear the cry of the poor.
 so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him,
and he heard the cry of the afflicted -
לְהָבִיא עָלָיו צַעֲקַת־דָּל וְצַעֲקַת עֲנִיִּים יִשְׁמָע׃ 28
29καὶ αὐτὸς ἡσυχίαν παρέξει, καὶ τίς καταδικάσεται;
καὶ κρύψει πρόσωπον, καὶ τίς ὄψεται αὐτόν;
καὶ κατὰ ἔθνους καὶ κατὰ ἀνθρώπου ὁμοῦ·
 And he will give quiet, and who will condemn?
and he will hide his face, and who shall see him?
whether [it be done] against a nation, or against a man also:
 When he is quiet, who can condemn?
When he hides his face, who can behold him,
whether it be a nation or a man? -
וְהוּא יַשְׁקִט וּמִי יַרְשִׁעַ וְיַסְתֵּר פָּנִים וּמִי יְשׁוּרֶנּוּ
וְעַל־גֹּוי וְעַל־אָדָם יָחַד׃ 		29
30βασιλεύων ἄνθρωπον ὑποκριτὴν ἀπὸ δυσκολίας λαοῦ.
 causing a hypocrite to be king,
because of the waywardness of the people.
 that a godless man should not reign,
that he should not ensnare the people.
מִמְּלֹךְ אָדָם חָנֵף מִמֹּקְשֵׁי עָם׃ 30
31ὅτι πρὸς τὸν ἰσχυρὸν ὁ λέγων Εἴληφα, οὐκ ἐνεχυράσω·
 For [there is] one that says to the Mighty One,
I have received [blessings];
I will not take a pledge:
 "For has any one said to God, 'I have borne chastisement;
I will not offend any more;
כִּי־אֶל־אֵל הֶאָמַר נָשָׂאתִי לֹא אֶחְבֹּל׃ 31
32ἄνευ ἐμαυτοῦ ὄψομαι, σὺ δεῖξόν μοι·
εἰ ἀδικίαν ἠργασάμην, οὐ μὴ προσθήσω.
 I will see apart from myself:
do you shew me if I have done unrighteousness;
I will not do [so] any more.
 teach me what I do not see;
if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'?
בִּלְעֲדֵי אֶחֱזֶה אַתָּה הֹרֵנִי אִם־עָוֶל פָּעַלְתִּי לֹא אֹסִיף׃ 32
33μὴ παρὰ σοῦ ἀποτείσει αὐτήν;
ὅτι ἀπώσῃ, ὅτι σὺ ἐκλέξῃ καὶ οὐκ ἐγώ·
καὶ τί ἔγνως λάλησον.
 Will he take vengeance for it on you,
whereas you will put [it] far [from you]?
for you shall choose, and not I;
and what you know, speak.
 Will he then make requital to suit you,
because you reject it?
For you must choose, and not I;
therefore declare what you know.
הַמֵעִמְּךָ יְשַׁלְמֶנָּה כִּי־מָאַסְתָּ כִּי־אַתָּה תִבְחַר וְלֹא־אָנִי
וּמַה־יָדַעְתָּ דַבֵּר׃ 		33
34διὸ συνετοὶ καρδίας ἐροῦσιν ταῦτα,
ἀνὴρ δὲ σοφὸς ἀκήκοέν μου τὸ ῥῆμα.
 Because the wise in heart shall say this,
and a wise man listens to my word.
 Men of understanding will say to me,
and the wise man who hears me will say:
אַנְשֵׁי לֵבָב יֹאמְרוּ לִי וְגֶבֶר חָכָם שֹׁמֵעַ לִי׃ 34
35Ιωβ δὲ οὐκ ἐν συνέσει ἐλάλησεν,
τὰ δὲ ῥήματα αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐν ἐπιστήμῃ.
 But Job has not spoken with understanding,
his words are not [uttered] with knowledge.
 'Job speaks without knowledge,
his words are without insight.'
אִיֹּוב לֹא־בְדַעַת יְדַבֵּר וּדְבָרָיו לֹא בְהַשְׂכֵּיל׃ 35
36οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ μάθε, Ιωβ,
μὴ δῷς ἔτι ἀνταπόκρισιν ὥσπερ οἱ ἄφρονες,
 Howbeit do you learn, Job:
no longer make answer as the foolish:
 Would that Job were tried to the end,
because he answers like wicked men.
אָבִי יִבָּחֵן אִיֹּוב עַד־נֶצַח עַל־תְּשֻׁבֹת בְּאַנְשֵׁי־אָוֶן׃ 36
37ἵνα μὴ προσθῶμεν ἐφ' ἁμαρτίαις ἡμῶν,
ἀνομία δὲ ἐφ' ἡμῖν λογισθήσεται πολλὰ λαλούντων ῥήματα ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου.
 that we add not to our sins:
for iniquity will be reckoned against us,
if [we] speak many words before the Lord.
 For he adds rebellion to the sin;
he claps his hands among us,
and multiplies his words against God."		כִּי יֹסִיף עַל־חַטָּאתֹו פֶשַׁע בֵּינֵינוּ יִסְפֹּוק וְיֶרֶב אֲמָרָיו לָאֵל׃ ס 37
