1Ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ιωβ λέγει
 And Job answered and said,
Job. Jb.12.1-14.22Then Job answered:וַיַּעַן אִיֹּוב וַיֹּאמַר׃ 1
2Εἶτα ὑμεῖς ἐστε ἄνθρωποι·
ἦ μεθ' ὑμῶν τελευτήσει σοφία.
 So then you [alone] are men,
and wisdom shall die with you?
 "No doubt you are the people,
and wisdom will die with you.
אָמְנָם כִּי אַתֶּם־עָם וְעִםָּכֶם תָּמוּת חָכְמָה׃ 2
3κἀμοὶ μὲν καρδία καθ' ὑμᾶς ἐστιν.
 [But] I also have a heart as well as you.
 But I have understanding as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
Who does not know such things as these?
גַּם־לִי לֵבָב כְּמֹוכֶמ לֹא־נֹפֵל אָנֹכִי םִכֶּם וְאֶת־מִי־אֵין כְּמֹו־אֵלֶּה׃ 3
4δίκαιος γὰρ ἀνὴρ καὶ ἄμεμπτος ἐγενήθη εἰς χλεύασμα·
 For a righteous and blameless man
has become a subject for mockery.
 I am a laughingstock to my friends;
I, who called upon God and he answered me,
a just and blameless man, am a laughingstock.
שְׂחֹק לְרֵעֵהוּ אֶהְיֶה קֹרֵא לֶאֱלֹוהַּ וַיַּעֲנֵהוּ שְׂחֹוק צַדִּיק תָּמִים׃ 4
5εἰς χρόνον γὰρ τακτὸν ἡτοίμαστο πεσεῖν ὑπὸ ἄλλους,
οἴκους τε αὐτοῦ ἐκπορθεῖσθαι ὑπὸ ἀνόμων.
 For it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time,
and that his houses should be spoiled by transgressors:
 In the thought of one who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune;
it is ready for those whose feet slip.
לַפִּיד בּוּז לְעַשְׁתּוּת שַׁאֲןָן נָכֹון לְמֹועֲדֵי רָגֶל׃ 5
6οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ μηδεὶς πεποιθέτω πονηρὸς ὢν ἀθῷος ἔσεσθαι, ὅσοι παροργίζουσιν τὸν κύριον,
ὡς οὐχὶ καὶ ἔτασις αὐτῶν ἔσται.
 let not however any one trust
that, being evil, he shall be [held] guiltless,
even as many as provoke the Lord,
as if there were indeed to be no inquisition [made] of them.
 The tents of robbers are at peace,
and those who provoke God are secure,
who bring their god in their hand.
יִשְׁלָיוּ אֹהָלִים לְשֹׁדְדִימ וּבַטֻּחֹות לְמַרְגִּיזֵי אֵל
לַאֲשֶׁר הֵבִיא אֱלֹוהַּ בְּיָדֹו׃		 6
7ἀλλὰ δὴ ἐπερώτησον τετράποδα ἐάν σοι εἴπωσιν,
πετεινὰ δὲ οὐρανοῦ ἐάν σοι ἀπαγγείλωσιν·
 But ask now the beasts,
if they may speak to you;
and the birds of the air,
if they may declare to you.
 "But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of the air, and they will tell you;
וְאוּלָם שְׁאַל־נָא בְהֵמֹות וְתֹרֶךָּ וְעֹוף הַשָּׁמַיִם וְיַגֶּד־לָךְ׃ 7
8ἐκδιήγησαι δὲ γῇ ἐάν σοι φράσῃ,
καὶ ἐξηγήσονταί σοι οἱ ἰχθύες τῆς θαλάσσης.
 Tell the earth, if it may speak to you:
and the fishes of the sea shall explain to you.
 or the plants of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
אֹו שִׂיחַ לָאָרֶץ וְתֹרֶךָּ וִיסַפְּרוּ לְךָ דְּגֵי הַיָּם׃ 8
913τίς οὐκ ἔγνω ἐν πᾶσι τούτοις
ὅτι χεὶρ κυρίου ἐποίησεν ταῦτα;
 Who then has not known in all these things,
that the hand of the Lord has made them?
 Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?
מִי לֹא־יָדַע בְּכָל־אֵלֶּה כִּי יַד־יְהוָה עָשְׂתָה זֹּאת׃ 9
10εἰ μὴ ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ ψυχὴ πάντων
τῶν ζώντων καὶ πνεῦμα παντὸς ἀνθρώπου;
 Whereas the life of all living things is in his hand,
and the breath of every man.
 In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.
אֲשֶׁר בְּיָדֹו נֶפֶשׁ כָּל־חָי וְרוּחַ כָּל־בְּשַׂר־אִישׁ׃ 10
11οὖς μὲν γὰρ ῥήματα διακρίνει,
λάρυγξ δὲ σῖτα γεύεται.
 For the ear tries words,
and the palate tastes meats.
 Does not the ear try words
as the palate tastes food?
הֲלֹא־אֹזֶן מִלִּין תִּבְחָן וְחֵךְ אֹכֶל יִטְעַם־לֹו׃ 11
12ἐν πολλῷ χρόνῳ σοφία,
ἐν δὲ πολλῷ βίῳ ἐπιστήμη.
 In length of time is wisdom,
and in long life knowledge.
 Wisdom is with the aged,
and understanding in length of days.
בִּישִׁישִׁים חָכְמָה וְאֹרֶךְ יָמִים תְּבוּנָה׃ 12
13παρ' αὐτῷ σοφία καὶ δύναμις, αὐτῷ βουλὴ καὶ σύνεσις.
 With him are wisdom and power,
with him counsel and understanding.
 "With God are wisdom and might;
he has counsel and understanding.
עִמֹּו חָכְמָה וּגְבוּרָה לֹו עֵצָה וּתְבוּנָה׃ 13
14ἐὰν καταβάλῃ, τίς οἰκοδομήσει;
ἐὰν κλείσῃ κατὰ ἀνθρώπων, τίς ἀνοίξει;
 If he should cast down, who will build up?
if he should shut up against man, who shall open?
 If he tears down, none can rebuild;
if he shuts a man in, none can open.
הֵן יַהֲרֹוס וְלֹא יִבָּנֶה יִסְגֹּר עַל־אִישׁ וְלֹא יִפָּתֵחַ׃ 14
15ἐὰν κωλύσῃ τὸ ὥδωρ, ξηρανεῖ τὴν γῆν·
ἐὰν δὲ ἐπαφῇ, ἀπώλεσεν αὐτὴν καταστρέψας.
 If he should withhold the water,
he will dry the earth:
and if he should let it loose,
he overthrows and destroys it.
 If he withholds the waters, they dry up;
if he sends them out, they overwhelm the land.
הֵן יַעְצֹר בַּמַּיִם וְיִבָשׁוּ וִישַׁלְּחֵם וְיַהַפְכוּ אָרֶץ׃ 15
16παρ' αὐτῷ κράτος καὶ ἰσχύς,
αὐτῷ ἐπιστήμη καὶ σύνεσις.
 With him are strength and power:
he has knowledge and understanding.
 With him are strength and wisdom;
the deceived and the deceiver are his.
עִמֹּו עֹז וְתוּשִׁיָּה לֹו שֹׁגֵג וּמַשְׁגֶּה׃ 16
17διάγων βουλευτὰς αἰχμαλώτους,
κριτὰς δὲ γῆς ἐξέστησεν.
 He leads counsellors away captive,
and maddens the judges of the earth.
 He leads counselors away stripped,
and judges he makes fools.
מֹולִיךְ יֹועֲצִים שֹׁולָל וְשֹׁפְטִים יְהֹולֵל׃ 17
18καθιζάνων βασιλεῖς ἐπὶ θρόνους
καὶ περιέδησεν ζώνῃ ὀσφύας αὐτῶν.
 He seats kings upon thrones,
and girds their loins with a girdle.
 He looses the bonds of kings,
and binds a waistcloth on their loins.
מוּסַר מְלָכִים פִּתֵּחַ וַיֶּאְסֹר אֵזֹור בְּמָתְנֵיהֶם׃ 18
19ἐξαποστέλλων ἱερεῖς αἰχμαλώτους,
δυνάστας δὲ γῆς κατέστρεψεν.
 He sends away priests into captivity,
and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth.
 He leads priests away stripped,
and overthrows the mighty.
מֹולִיךְ כֹּהֲנִים שֹׁולָל וְאֵתָנִים יְסַלֵּף׃ 19
20διαλλάσσων χείλη πιστῶν,
σύνεσιν δὲ πρεσβυτέρων ἔγνω.
 He changes the lips of the trusty,
and he knows the understanding of the elders.
 He deprives of speech those who are trusted,
and takes away the discernment of the elders.
מֵסִיר שָׂפָה לְנֶאֱמָנִים וְטַעַם זְקֵנִים יִקָּח׃ 20
21ἐκχέων ἀτιμίαν ἐπ' ἄρχοντας,
ταπεινοὺς δὲ ἰάσατο.
 He pours dishonour upon princes,
and heals the lowly.
 He pours contempt on princes,
and looses the belt of the strong.
שֹׁופֵךְ בּוּז עַל־נְדִיבִים וּמְזִיחַ אֲפִיקִים רִפָּה׃ 21
22ἀνακαλύπτων βαθέα ἐκ σκότους,
ἐξήγαγεν δὲ εἰς φῶς σκιὰν θανάτου.
 Revealing deep things out of darkness:
and he has brought into light the shadow of death.
 He uncovers the deeps out of darkness,
and brings deep darkness to light.
מְגַלֶּה עֲמֻקֹות מִנִּי־חֹשֶׁךְ וַיֹּצֵא לָאֹור צַלְמָוֶת׃ 22
23πλανῶν ἔθνη καὶ ἀπολλύων αὐτά,
καταστρωννύων ἔθνη καὶ καθοδηγῶν αὐτά.
 Causing the nations to wander, and destroying them:
overthrowing the nations, and leading them [away].
 He makes nations great, and he destroys them:
he enlarges nations, and leads them away.
מַשְׂגִּיא לַגֹּויִם וַיְאַבְּדֵם שֹׁטֵחַ לַגֹּויִם וַיַּנְחֵם׃ 23
24διαλλάσσων καρδίας ἀρχόντων γῆς,
ἐπλάνησεν δὲ αὐτοὺς ὁδῷ, ᾗ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν·
 Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth:
and he causes them to wander in a way, they have not known, [saying],
 He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth,
and makes them wander in a pathless waste.
מֵסִיר לֵב רָאשֵׁי עַם־הָאָרֶץ וַיַּתְעֵם בְּתֹהוּ לֹא־דָרֶךְ׃ 24
25ψηλαφήσαισαν σκότος καὶ μὴ φῶς,
πλανηθείησαν δὲ ὥσπερ ὁ μεθύων.
 Let them grope [in] darkness,
and [let there be] no light,
and let them wander as a drunken man.
 They grope in the dark without light;
and he makes them stagger like a drunken man.		יְמַשְׁשׁוּ־חֹשֶׁךְ וְלֹא־אֹור וַיַּתְעֵם כַּשִּׁכֹּור׃ 25
