22 1 | My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me and art so far from saving me, from heeding my groans? | אֵלִי אֵלִי לָמָה עֲזַבְתָּנִי רָחֹוק מִישׁוּעָתִי דִּבְרֵי שַׁאֲגָתִי׃ | |
2 | O my God, I cry in the day-time but thou dost not answer, in the night I cry but get no respite. | אֱלֹהַי אֶקְרָא יֹוםָם וְלֹא תַעֲנֶה וְלַיְלָה וְלֹא־דוּמִיָּה לִי׃ | |
3 | And yet thou art enthroned in holiness, thou art he whose praises Israel sings. | וְאַתָּה קָדֹושׁ יֹושֵׁב תְּהִלֹּות יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ | |
4 | In thee our fathers put their trust; they trusted, and thou didst rescue them. | בְּךָ בָּטְחוּ אֲבֹתֵינוּ בָּטְחוּ וַתְּפַלְּטֵמֹו׃ | |
5 | Unto thee they cried and were delivered; in thee they trusted and were not put to shame. | אֵלֶיךָ זָעֲקוּ וְנִמְלָטוּ בְּךָ בָטְחוּ וְלֹא־בֹושׁוּ׃ | |
6 | But I am a worm, not a man, abused by all men, scorned by the people. | וְאָנֹכִי תֹולַעַת וְלֹא־אִישׁ חֶרְפַּת אָדָם וּבְזוּי עָם׃ | |
7 | All who see me jeer at me, make mouths at me and wag their heads: | כָּל־רֹאַי יַלְעִגוּ לִי יַפְטִירוּ בְשָׂפָה יָנִיעוּ רֹאשׁ׃ | |
8 | 'He threw himself on the LORD for rescue; let the LORD deliver him, for he holds him dear!' | גֹּל אֶל־יְהוָה יְפַלְּטֵהוּ יַצִּילֵהוּ כִּי חָפֵץ בֹּו׃ | |
9 | But thou art he who drew me from the womb, who laid me at my mother's breast. | כִּי־אַתָּה גֹחִי מִבָּטֶן מַבְטִיחִי עַל־שְׁדֵי אִמִּי׃ | |
10 | Upon thee was I cast at birth; from my mother's womb thou hast been my God. | עָלֶיךָ הָשְׁלַכְתִּי מֵרָחֶם מִבֶּטֶן אִמִּי אֵלִי אָתָּה׃ | |
11 | Be not far from me, for trouble is near, and I have no helper. | אַל־תִּרְחַק מִמֶּנִּי כִּי־צָרָה קְרֹובָה כִּי־אֵין עֹוזֵר׃ | |
12 | A herd of bulls surrounds me, great bulls of Bashan beset me. | סְבָבוּנִי פָּרִים רַבִּים אַבִּירֵי בָשָׁן כִּתְּרוּנִי׃ | |
13 | Ravening and roaring lions open their mouths wide against me. | פָּצוּ עָלַי פִּיהֶם אַרְיֵה טֹרֵף וְשֹׁאֵג׃ | |
14 | My strength drains away like water and all my bones are loose. My heart has turned to wax and melts within me. | כַּמַּיִם נִשְׁפַּכְתִּי וְהִתְפָּרְדוּ כָּל־עַצְמֹותָי הָיָה לִבִּי כַּדֹּונָג נָמֵס בְּתֹוךְ מֵעָי׃ | |
15 | My mouth prob. rdg, Heb My strength is dry as a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaw; I am laid I am laid: prob. rdg, Heb thou wilt lay me low in the dust of death. | יָבֵשׁ כַּחֶרֶשׂ כֹּחִי וּלְשֹׁונִי מֻדְבָּק מַלְקֹוחָי וְלַעֲפַר־מָוֶת תִּשְׁפְּתֵנִי׃ | |
16 | The huntsmen are all about me; a band of ruffians rings me round, and they have hacked off and they have hacked off: prob. rdg, Heb like a lion my hands and my feet. | כִּי סְבָבוּנִי כְּלָבִים עֲדַת מְרֵעִים הִקִּיפוּנִי כָּאֲרִי יָדַי וְרַגְלָי׃ | |
17 | I tell my tale of misery, while they look on and gloat. | אֲסַפֵּר כָּל־עַצְמֹותָי הֵמָּה יַבִּיטוּ יִרְאוּ־בִי׃ | |
18 | They share out my garments among them and cast lots for my clothes. | יְחַלְּקוּ בְגָדַי לָהֶם וְעַל־לְבוּשִׁי יַפִּילוּ גֹורָל׃ | |
19 | But do not remain so far away, O LORD; O my help, hasten to my aid. | וְאַתָּה יְהוָה אַל־תִּרְחָק אֱיָלוּתִי לְעֶזְרָתִי חוּשָׁה׃ | |
20 | Deliver my very self from the sword, my precious life from the axe. | הַצִּילָה מֵחֶרֶב נַפְשִׁי מִיַּד־כֶּלֶב יְחִידָתִי׃ | |
21 | 21Save me from the lion's mouth, my poor body my poor body: prob. rdg, Heb thou hast answered me from the horns of the wild ox. | הֹושִׁיעֵנִי מִפִּי אַרְיֵה וּמִקַּרְנֵי רֵמִים עֲנִיתָנִי׃ | |
22 | I will declare thy fame to my brethren; I will praise thee in the midst of the assembly. | אֲסַפְּרָה שִׁמְךָ לְאֶחָי בְּתֹוךְ קָהָל אֲהַלְלֶךָּ׃ | |
23 | Praise him, you who fear the LORD; all you sons of Jacob, do him honour; stand in awe of him, all sons of Israel. | יִרְאֵי יְהוָה הַלְלוּהוּ כָּל־זֶרַע יַעֲקֹב כַּבְּדוּהוּ וְגוּרוּ מִמֶּנּוּ כָּל־זֶרַע יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ | |
24 | For he has not scorned the downtrodden, nor shrunk in loathing from his plight, nor hidden his face from him, but gave heed to him when he cried out. | כִּי לֹא־בָזָה וְלֹא שִׁקַּץ עֱנוּת עָנִי וְלֹא־הִסְתִּיר פָּנָיו מִמֶּנּוּ וּבְשַׁוְּעֹו אֵלָיו שָׁמֵעַ׃ | |
25 | Thou dost inspire my praise in the full assembly; and I will pay my vows before all who fear thee. | מֵאִתְּכָ תְהִלָּתִי בְּקָהָל רָב נְדָרַי אֲשַׁלֵּם נֶגֶד יְרֵאָיו׃ | |
26 | Let the humble eat and be satisfied. Let those who seek the LORD praise him and be in good heart for ever. | יֹאכְלוּ עֲנָוִים וְיִשְׂבָּעוּ יְהַלְלוּ יְהוָה דֹּרְשָׁיו יְחִי לְבַבְכֶם לָעַד׃ | |
27 | Let all the ends of the earth remember and turn again to the LORD; let all the families of the nations bow down before him. | יִזְכְּרוּ וְיָשֻׁבוּ אֶל־יְהוָה כָּל־אַפְסֵי־אָרֶץ וְיִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לְפָנֶיךָ כָּל־מִשְׁפְּחֹות גֹּויִם׃ | |
28 | For kingly power belongs to the LORD, and dominion over the nations is his. | כִּי לַיהוָה הַמְּלוּכָה וּמֹשֵׁל בַּגֹּויִם׃ | |
29 | How can those buried in the earth do him homage, how can those who go down to the grave bow before him? But I shall live for his sake, | אָכְלוּ וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲוּוּ כָּל־דִּשְׁנֵי־אֶרֶץ לְפָנָיו יִכְרְעוּ כָּל־יֹורְדֵי עָפָר וְנַפְשֹׁו לֹא חִיָּה׃ | |
30 | my posterity But I ... posterity: prob. rdg, Heb obscure shall serve him. This shall be told of the Lord to future generations, | זֶרַע יַעַבְדֶנּוּ יְסֻפַּר לַאדֹנָי לַדֹּור׃ | |
31 | and they shall justify him, declaring to a people yet unborn that this was his doing. | יָבֹאוּ וְיַגִּידוּ צִדְקָתֹו לְעַם נֹולָד כִּי עָשָׂה׃ |
