16 | And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God truthfully, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men. | | καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν αὐτῷ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτῶν μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν λέγοντες, Διδάσκαλε, οἰδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθὴς εἶ καὶ τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ διδάσκεις, καὶ οὐ μέλει σοι περὶ οὐδενός, οὐ γὰρ βλέπεις εἰς πρόσωτον ἀνθρώπων. |

17 | Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" | | εἰπὲ οὖν ἡμῖν τί σοι δοκεῖ· ἐξεστιν δοῦναι κῆνσον Καίσαρι ἢ οὒ; |

18 | But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? | | γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πονηρίαν αὐτῶν εἶπεν, Τί με πειράζετε, ὑποκριταί; |

19 | Show me the money for the tax." And they brought him a coin. | | ἐπιδείξατέ μοι τὸ νόμισμα τοῦ κήνσου. οἱ δὲ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δηνάριον. |
|
20 | And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" | | καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, Τίνος ἡ εἰκὼν αὑτη καὶ ἡ ἐπιγραφή; |
|
21 | They said, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." | | λέγουσιν αὐτῷ, Καίσαρος. τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς, Ἀπόδοτε οὖν τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῷ θεῷ. |

22 | When they heard it, they marveled; and they left him and went away. | | καὶ ἀκούσαντες ἐθαύμασαν, καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἀπῆλθαν. |
