katapi HOME Jesus Foretells His Betrayal: Jn.13.21-30  (Mt.26.20-25  Mk.14.17021  Lk.22.21-23  ) | NEB Index | notes
John: 13
21 After saying this, Jesus exclaimed in deep agitation of spirit, 'In truth, in very truth I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.' 22 The disciples looked at one another in bewilderment: whom could he be speaking of? 23 One of them, the disciple he loved, was reclining close beside Jesus. 24 So Simon Peter nodded to him and said, 'Ask who it is he means.' 25 That disciple, as he reclined, leaned back close to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, who is it?' 26 Jesus replied, 'It is the man to whom I give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.' Then, after dipping it in the dish, he took it out and gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot. 27 As soon as Judas had received it Satan entered him. Jesus said to him, 'Do quickly what you have to do.' 28 No one at the table understood what he meant by this. 29 Some supposed that, as Judas was in charge of the common purse, Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival, or to make some gift to the poor. 30 Judas, then, received the bread and went out. It was night.
Matthew: 26
20 In the evening he sat down with the twelve disciples; 21 and during supper he said, 'I tell you this: one of you will betray me.' 22 In great distress they exclaimed one after the other, 'Can you mean me. Lord?' 23 He answered, 'One who has dipped his hand into this bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man is going the way appointed for him in the scriptures; but alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had never been born.' 25 Then Judas spoke, the one who was to betray him. 'Rabbi,' he said, 'can you mean me?' Jesus replied, 'The words are yours.'
Mark: 14
17 In the evening he came to the house with the Twelve. 18 As they sat at supper Jesus said, 'I tell you is this: one of you will betray me - one who is eating with me.' 19 At this they were dismayed; and one by one they said to him, 'Not I, surely?' 20 'It is one of the Twelve', he said, 'who is dipping into the same bowl with me. 21 The Son of Man is going the way appointed for him in the scriptures; but alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had never been born.'
Luke: 22
21 'But mark this - my betrayer is here, his hand with mine on the table. 22 For the Son of Man is going his appointed way; but alas for that man by whom he is betrayed!' 23 At this they began to ask among themselves which of them it could possibly be who was to do this thing.

The most generally known harmonies of the Gospels are based upon the Huck-Lietzmann Synopsis (1936) of the three gospels and Sparks' Synopsis (1964) of four gospels.
Many of the passages in these harmonies are too short to display in a useful manner on a web-page.
The katapi New Study Bible Synopsis of the Gospels is based upon the headings displayed in the New Study Bible reference table which in turn follows the headings printed in the United Bible Societies' New Testament in Greek.
These sections are more useful for bible study.
Columns are arranged so that first column is your chosen heading from the bible passage list.
This column is highlighted in light grey.
The harmonies that follow across the web-page are then in the normally accepted order.
For Old Testament references quoted by New Testament authors,
you should either go back to the passage listing web-page and select the link on the 'version' column;
or click on the column heading and search through the chapter for the relevant passage;
than select the OT passage from the reference column.
