NOW THE FESTIVAL of Unleavened Bread, known as Passover, was approaching,The Plot to Kill Jesus Lk.22.1-2 | Mt.26.1-5 | Mk.14.1-2 | Jn.11.45-53
καὶ ἐζήτουν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὸ πῶς ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν, ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν. and the chief priests and the doctors of the law were trying to devise some means of doing away with him; for they were afraid of the people.

Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Σατανᾶς εἰς Ἰούδαν τὸν καλούμενον Ἰσκαριώτην, ὀντα ἐκ τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ τῶν δώδεκα· Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve;
καὶ ἀπελθὼν συνελάλησεν τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ στρατηγοῖς τὸ πῶς αὐτοῖς παραδῷ αὐτόν. and Judas went to the chief priests and officers of the temple police to discuss ways and s means of putting Jesus into their power.
They were greatly pleased and undertook to pay him a sum of money.
He agreed, and began to look out for an opportunity to betray him to them without collecting a crowd.

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover victim had to be slaughtered,The Preparation of the Passover Lk.22.7-13 | Mt.26.17-25 | Mk.14.12-21 | Lk.22.21-23 | Jn.13.21-30
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην εἰπών, Πορευθέντες ἑτοιμάσατε ἡμῖν τὸ πάσχα ἵνα φάγωμεν. and Jesus sent Peter and John with these instructions: 'Go and prepare for our Passover supper.'
οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ, Ποῦ θέλεις ἑτοιμάσωμεν; 'Where would you like us to make the preparations?' they asked.
He replied, 'As soon as you set foot in the city a man will meet you carrying a jar of water. Follow him into the house that he enters
καὶ ἐρεῖτε τῷ οἰκοδεσπότῃ τῆς οἰκίας, Λέγει σοι ὁ διδάσκαλος, Ποῦ ἐστιν τὸ κατάλυμα ὁπου τὸ πάσχα μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν μου φάγὼ; and give this message to the householder: "The Master says, 'Where is the room in which I may eat the Passover with my disciples ?'"
He will show you a large room upstairs all set out: make the preparations there.'
They went and found everything as he had said. So they prepared for Passover.

When the time came he took his place at table, and the apostles with him; and he said to them,The Institution of the Lord's Supper Lk.22.14-23 | Mt.26.26-30 | Mk.14.22-25 | 1Cor.11.23-26
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, Ἐπιθυμίᾳ ἐπεθύμησα τοῦτο τὸ πάσχα φαγεῖν μεθ' ὑμῶν πρὸ τοῦ με παθεῖν· 'How I have longed to eat this Passover with you before my death!
For I tell you, never again shall I eat it until the time when it finds its fulfilment in the kingdom of God.'

καὶ δεξάμενος ποτήριον εὐχαριστήσας εἶπεν, Λάβετε τοῦτο καὶ διαμερίσατε εἰς ἑαυτούς· Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he said,
'Take this and share it among yourselves;

λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν [ὁτι] οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἑως οὗ ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ἐλθῃ. for I tell you, from this moment I shall drink from the fruit of the vine no more until the time when the kingdom of God comes.'

καὶ λαβὼν ἀρτον εὐχαριστήσας ἐκλασεν καὶ ἐδωκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων, Τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου [[τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν διδόμενον· τοῦτο ποιεῖτε εἰς τὴν ἐμὴν ἀνάμνησιν. And he took bread, gave thanks, and broke it;
and he gave it to them, with the words:
'This is my body.'

[Some manuscripts add, in whole or in part, and with various arrangements, the following: 'which is given for you; do this as a memorial of me.'

In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, 'This cup, poured out for you, is the new covenant sealed by my blood.']

πλὴν ἰδοὺ ἡ χεὶρ τοῦ παραδιδόντος με μετ' ἐμοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης· 'But mark this - my betrayer is here, his hand with mine on the table.
For the Son of Man is going his appointed way; but alas for that man by whom he is betrayed!'
At this they began to ask among themselves which of them it could possibly be who was to do this thing.

Then a jealous dispute broke out: who among them should rank highest?The Dispute about Greatness Lk.22.24-30
But he said, 'In the world, kings lord it over their subjects; and those in authority are called their country's "Benefactors".
Not so with you: on the contrary, the highest among you must bear himself like the youngest, the chief of you like a servant.
For who is greater - the one who sits at table or the servant who waits on him? Surely the one who sits at table. Yet here am I among you like a servant.

ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε οἱ διαμεμενηκότες μετ' ἐμοῦ ἐν τοῖς πειρασμοῖς μου· 'You are the men who have stood firmly by me in my times of trial;
κἀγὼ διατίθεμαι ὑμῖν καθὼς διέθετό μοι ὁ πατήρ μου βασιλείαν and now I vest in you the kingship which my Father vested in me;
ἵνα ἐσθητε καὶ πίνητε ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης μου ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ μου, καὶ καθήσεσθε ἐπὶ θρόνων τὰς δώδεκα φυλὰς κρίνοντες τοῦ Ἰσραήλ. you shall eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones as judges of the twelve tribes of Israel.

Σίμων Σίμων, ἰδοὺ ὁ Σατανᾶς ἐξῃτήσατο ὑμᾶς τοῦ σινιάσαι ὡς τὸν σῖτον· 'Simon, Simon, take heed: Satan has been given leave to sift all of you like wheat;Peter's Denial Foretold Lk.22.31-34 | Mt.26.31-35 | Mk.14.27-31 | Jn.13.36-38
ἐγὼ δὲ ἐδεήθην περὶ σοῦ ἵνα μὴ ἐκλίπῃ ἡ πίστις σου· καὶ σύ ποτε ἐπιστρέψας στήρισον τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου. but for you I have prayed that your faith may not fail; and when you have come to yourself, you must lend strength to your brothers.'
'Lord,' he replied, 'I am ready to go with you to prison and death.'
Jesus said, 'I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow tonight until you have three times over denied that you know me.'

He said to them, 'When I sent you out barefoot without purse or pack, were you ever short of anything?' 'No', they answered.Purse, Bag, and Sword Lk.22.35-38
'It is different now,' he said; 'whoever has a purse had better take it with him, and his pack too; and if he has no sword, let him sell his cloak to buy one.
For Scripture says, "And he was counted among the outlaws", and these words, I tell you, must find fulfilment in me; indeed, all that is written of me is being fulfilled.'
'Look, Lord,' they said, 'we have two swords here.' 'Enough, enough!' he replied.

THEN HE WENT OUT and made his way as usual to the Mount of Olives, accompanied by the disciples.The Prayer on the Mount of Olives Lk.22.39-46 | Mt.26.36-46 | Mk.14.32-42
When he reached the place he said to them, 'Pray that you may be spared the hour of testing.'
καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπεσπάσθη ἀπ' αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λίθου βολήν, καὶ θεὶς τὰ γόνατα προσηύχετο He himself withdrew from them about a stone's throw, knelt down, and began to pray:
'Father, if it be thy will, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but thine be done.'

And now there appeared to him an angel from heaven bringing him strength,
καὶ γενόμενος ἐν ἀγωνίᾳ ἐκτενέστερον προσηύχετο· καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ ἱδρὼς αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ θρόμβοι αἱματος καταβαίνοντες ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.]] and in anguish of spirit he prayed the more urgently; and his sweat was like clots of blood falling to the ground.
καὶ ἀναστὰς ἀπὸ τῆς προσευχῆς ἐλθὼν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εὗρεν κοιμωμένους αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς λύπης, When he rose from prayer and came to the disciples he found them asleep, worn out by grief.
'Why are you sleeping?' he said. 'Rise and pray that you may be spared the test.'

WHILE HE WAS STILL SPEAKING a Crowd appeared with the man called Judas, one of the Twelve, at their head.The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus Lk.22.47-53 | Mt.26.47-56 | Mk.14.43-50 | Jn.18.3-12
Ἰησοῦς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Ἰούδα, φιλήματι τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδως; He came up to Jesus to kiss him; but Jesus said, 'Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?'

ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν τὸ ἐσόμενον εἶπαν, Κύριε, εἰ πατάξομεν ἐν μαχαίρῃ; When his followers saw what was coming, they said, 'Lord, shall we use our swords?'
And one of them struck at the High Priest's servant, cutting off his right ear.
But Jesus answered, 'Let them have their way.' Then he touched the man's ear and healed him.

εἶπεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τοὺς παραγενομένους ἐπ' αὐτὸν ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ στρατηγοὺς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ πρεσβυτέρους, Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων; Turning to the chief priests, the officers of the temple police, and the elders, who had come to seize him, he said, 'Do you take me for a bandit, that you have come out with swords and cudgels to arrest me?
Day after day, when I was in the temple with you, you kept your hands off me. But this is your moment - the hour when darkness reigns.'
Then they arrested him and led him away. They brought him to the High Priest's house, and Peter followed at a distance.Peter's Denial of Jesus Lk.22.54-62 | Mt.26.57-75 | Mk.14.53-72 | Jn.18.12-18 | Jn.18.25-27
They lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat round it, and Peter sat among them.
ἰδοῦσα δὲ αὐτὸν παιδίσκη τις καθήμενον πρὸς τὸ φῶς καὶ ἀτενίσασα αὐτῷ εἶπεν, Καὶ οὗτος σὺν αὐτῷ ἦν· A serving-maid who saw him sitting in the firelight stared at him and said, 'This man was with him too.'
But he denied it: 'Woman,' he said, 'I do not know him.'
A little later someone else noticed him and said, 'You also are one of them.'
καὶ διαστάσης ὡσεὶ ὡρας μιᾶς ἀλλος τις διϊσχυρίζετο λέγων, Ἐπ' ἀληθείας καὶ οὗτος μετ' αὐτοῦ ἦν, καὶ γὰρ Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν· But Peter said to him, 'No, I am not.' About an hour passed and another spoke more strongly still: 'Of course this fellow was with him. He must have been; he is a Galilean.'
εἶπεν δὲ ὁ Πέτρος, Ἄνθρωπε, οὐκ οἶδα ὃ λέγεις. καὶ παραχρῆμα ἐτι λαλοῦντος αὐτοῦ ἐφώνησεν ἀλέκτωρ. But Peter said, 'Man, I do not know what you are talking about.' At that moment, while he was still speaking, a cock crew;
καὶ στραφεὶς ὁ κύριος ἐνέβλεψεν τῷ Πέτρῳ, καὶ ὑπεμνήσθη ὁ Πέτρος τοῦ ῥήματος τοῦ κυρίου ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὅτι Πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι σήμερον ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς· and the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. And Peter remembered the Lord's words, 'Tonight before the cock crows you will disown me three times.'

Some manuscripts add: He went outside, and wept bitterly, (as in Matthew 26. 75).

Καὶ οἱ ἀνδρες οἱ συνέχοντες αὐτὸν ἐνέπαιζον αὐτῷ δέροντες, The men who were guarding Jesus mocked at him.The Mocking and Beating of Jesus Lk.22.63-65 | Mt.26.67-68 | Mk.14.65
καὶ περικαλύψαντες αὐτὸν ἐπηρώτων λέγοντες, Προφήτευσον, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σὲ; They beat him, they blindfolded him, and they kept asking him, 'Now, prophet, who hit you? Tell us that.'
And so they went on heaping insults upon him.

Καὶ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡμέρα, συνήχθη τὸ πρεσβυτέριον τοῦ λαοῦ, ἀρχιερεῖς τε καὶ γραμματεῖς, καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ συνέδριον αὐτῶν, WHEN DAY BROKE, the elders of the nation, chief priests, and doctors of the law assembled, and he was brought before their Council.Jesus before the Council. Lk.22.66-71 | Mt.26.59-66 | Mk.14.55-64 | Jn.18.19-24
λέγοντες, Εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστός, εἰπὸν ἡμῖν. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς, Ἐὰν ὑμῖν εἰπω οὐ μὴ πιστεύσητε· 'Tell us,' they said, 'are you the Messiah?' 'If I tell you,' he replied, 'you I will not believe me;
ἐὰν δὲ ἐρωτήσω οὐ μὴ ἀποκριθῆτε. and if I ask questions, you will not answer.
But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of Almighty God.'- the Son of man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God Lk.22.69 | Dn.7.13 | Ps.110.1
'You are the Son of God, then?' they all said, and he replied,
'It is you who say I am.' They said, 'Need we call further witnesses? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.'
