Matthew

Reference
Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους, εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ, WHEN JESUS HAD FINISHED this discourse he said to his disciples,The Plot to Kill Jesus Mt.26.1-5 | Mk.14.1-2 | Lk.22.1-2 | Jn.11.45-53
'You know that in two days' time it will be Passover, and the Son of Man is to be handed over for crucifixion.'

Τότε συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως τοῦ λεγομένου Καϊάφα, Then the chief priests and the elders of the nation met in the palace of the High Priest, Caiaphas;
καὶ συνεβουλεύσαντο ἵνα τὸν Ἰησοῦν δόλῳ κρατήσωσιν καὶ ἀποκτείνωσιν· and there they conferred together on a scheme to have Jesus arrested by some trick and put to death.
'It must not be during the festival,' they said, 'or there may be rioting among the people.'

Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ γενομένου ἐν Βηθανίᾳ ἐν οἰκίᾳ Σίμωνος τοῦ λεπροῦ, JESUS WAS AT BETHANY in the house of Simon the leper,The Anointing at Bethany Mt.26.6-13 | Mk.14.3-9 | Lk.12.1-8
προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ γυνὴ ἐχουσα ἀλάβαστρον μύρου βαρυτίμου καὶ κατέχεεν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ ἀνακειμένου. when a woman came to him with a small bottle of fragrant oil, very costly; and as he sat at table she began to pour it over his head.
ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἠγανάκτησαν λέγοντες, Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὑτὴ; The disciples were indignant when they saw it. 'Why this waste?' they said;
'it could have been sold for a good sum and the money given to the poor.'
γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, Τί κόπους παρέχετε τῇ γυναικί; ἐργον γὰρ καλὸν ἠργάσατο εἰς ἐμέ· Jesus was aware of this, and said to them, 'Why must you make trouble for the woman? It is a fine thing she has done for me.
πάντοτε γὰρ τοὺς πτωχοὺς ἐχετε μεθ' ἑαυτῶν, ἐμὲ δὲ οὐ πάντοτε ἐχετε· You have the poor among you always; but you will not always have me.
When she poured this oil on my body it was her way of preparing me for burial.
I tell you this: wherever in all the world this gospel is proclaimed, what she has done will be told as her memorial.'

Τότε πορευθεὶς εἷς τῶν δώδεκα, ὁ λεγόμενος Ἰούδας Ἰσκαριώτης, πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς THEN ONE OF THE TWELVE, the man called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priestsJudas' Agreement to Betray Jesus Mt.26.14-16 | Mk.14.10-11 | Lk.22.3-6
εἶπεν, Τί θέλετέ μοι δοῦναι κἀγὼ ὑμῖν παραδώσω αὐτόν; οἱ δὲ ἔστησαν αὐτῷ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια. and said, 'What will you give me to betray him to you?' They weighed him out thirty silver pieces.- they paid him thirty pieces of silver. Mt.26.15 | Zch.11.12
From that moment he began to look for a good opportunity to betray him.
Τῇ δὲ πρώτῃ τῶν ἀζύμων προσῆλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ τῷ Ἰησοῦ λέγοντες, Ποῦ θέλεις ἑτοιμάσωμέν σοι φαγεῖν τὸ πάσχὰ; On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to ask Jesus, 'Where would you like us to prepare for your Passover supper?'The Passover with the Disciples Mt.26.17-25 | Mk.14.12-21 | Lk.22.7-14 | Lk.22.21-23 | Jn.13.21-30
He answered, 'Go to a certain man in the city, and tell him, "The Master says, 'My appointed time is near; I am to keep Passover with my disciples at your house.' " '
The disciples did as Jesus directed them and prepared for Passover.

Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ἀνέκειτο μετὰ τῶν δώδεκα. In the evening he sat down with the twelve disciples;
καὶ ἐσθιόντων αὐτῶν εἶπεν, Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἷς ἐξ ὑμῶν παραδώσει με. and during supper he said, 'I tell you this: one of you will betray me.'
καὶ λυπούμενοι σφόδρα ἠρξαντο λέγειν αὐτῷ εἷς ἑκαστος, Μήτι ἐγώ εἰμι, κύριὲ; In great distress they exclaimed one after the other, 'Can you mean me. Lord?'
He answered, 'One who has dipped his hand into this bowl with me will betray me.
The Son of Man is going the way appointed for him in the scriptures; but alas for that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had never been born.'
Then Judas spoke, the one who was to betray him. 'Rabbi,' he said, 'can you mean me?' Jesus replied, 'The words are yours.'

During supper Jesus took bread, and having said the blessing he broke it and gave it to the disciples with the words: 'Take this and eat; this is my body.'The Institution of the Lord's Supper Mt.26.26-30 | Mk.14.22-25 | Lk.22.14-23 | 1Cor.11.23-26
καὶ λαβὼν ποτήριον καὶ εὐχαριστήσας ἐδωκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων, Πίετε ἐξ αὐτοῦ πάντες, Then he took a cup, and having offered thanks to God he gave it to them with the words: 'Drink from it, all, of you.
For this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, shed for many for the forgiveness of sins.
I tell you, never again shall I drink from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.'

After singing the Passover Hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Then Jesus said to them, Tonight you will all fall from your faith on my account; for it stands written:

"I will strike the shepherd down and the sheep of his flock will be scattered."

Peter's Denial Foretold Mt.26.31-35 | Mk.14.27-31 | Lk.22.31-34 | Jn.13.36-38
But after I am raised again, I will go on before you into Galilee.'
Peter replied, 'Everyone else may fall away on your account, but I never will.'
Jesus said to him, 'I tell you, tonight before the cock crows you will disown me three times.'
Peter said, 'Even if I must die with you, I will never disown you.' And all the disciples said the same.

JESUS THEN CAME with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, 'Sit here while I go over there to pray.'The Prayer in Gethsemane Mt.26.36-46 | Mk.14.32-42 | Lk.22.39-46
He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee. Anguish and dismay came over him,
τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς, Περίλυπός ἐστιν ἡ ψυχή μου ἑως θανάτου· μείνατε ὧδε καὶ γρηγορεῖτε μετ' ἐμοῦ. and he said to them, 'My heart is ready to break with grief. Stop here, and stay awake with me.'
He went on a little, fell on his face in prayer, and said, 'My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass me by. Yet not as I will, but as thou wilt.'

καὶ ἐρχεται πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς καὶ εὑρίσκει αὐτοὺς καθεύδοντας, καὶ λέγει τῷ Πέτρῳ, οὑτως οὐκ ἰσχύσατε μίαν ὡραν γρηγορῆσαι μετ' ἐμοῦ; He came to the disciples and found them asleep; and he said to Peter, 'What! Could none of you stay awake with me one hour?
Stay awake, and pray that you may be spared the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.'

He went away a second time, and prayed: 'My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to pass me by without my drinking it, thy will be done.'
He came again and found them asleep, for their eyes were heavy.
So he left them and went away again; and he prayed the third time, using the same words as before.

Then he came to the disciples and said to them, 'Still sleeping? Still taking your ease? The hour has come! The Son of Man is betrayed to sinful men.
Up, let us go forward; the traitor is upon us.'

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared; with him was a great crowd armed with swords and cudgels, sent by the chief priests and the elders of the nation.The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus Mt.26.47-56 | Mk.14.43-50 | Lk.22.47-53 | Jn.18.3-12
ὁ δὲ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν ἐδωκεν αὐτοῖς σημεῖον λέγων, Ὅν ἂν φιλήσω αὐτός ἐστιν· κρατήσατε αὐτόν. The traitor gave them this sign: 'The one I kiss is your man; seize him';
καὶ εὐθέως προσελθὼν τῷ Ἰησοῦ εἶπεν, Χαῖρε, Ῥαββί· καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτόν. and stepping forward at once, he said, 'Hail, Rabbi!', and kissed him.
Jesus replied, 'Friend, do what you are here to do.' They then came forward, seized Jesus, and held him fast.

At that moment one of those with Jesus reached for his sword and drew it, and he struck at the High Priest's servant and cut off his ear.
But Jesus said to him, 'Put up your sword. All who take the sword die by the sword.
ἢ δοκεῖς ὅτι οὐ δύναμαι παρακαλέσαι τὸν πατέρα μου, καὶ παραστήσει μοι ἀρτι πλείω δώδεκα λεγιῶνας ἀγγέλων; Do you suppose that I cannot appeal to my Father, who would at once send to my aid more than twelve legions of angels?
πῶς οὖν πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαὶ ὅτι οὑτως δεῖ γενέσθαὶ; But how then could the scriptures be fulfilled, which say that this must be?'

At the same time Jesus spoke to the crowd. 'Do you take me for a bandit,' he said, 'that you have come out with swords and cudgels to arrest me? Day after day I sat teaching in the temple, and you did not lay hands on me.
But this has all happened to fulfil what the prophets wrote.'

Then the disciples all deserted him and ran away.

JESUS WAS LED OFF under arrest to the house of Caiaphas the High Priest, where the lawyers and elders were assembled.Jesus before the Council Mt.26.57-68 | Mk.14.53-65 | Lk.22.54-55 | Jn.18.13-14 | Jn.18.19-24
Peter followed him at a distance till he came to the High Priest's courtyard, and going in he sat down there among the attendants, meaning to see the end of it all.

οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τὸ συνέδριον ὁλον ἐζήτουν ψευδομαρτυρίαν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὁπως αὐτὸν θανατώσωσιν, The chief priests and the whole Council tried to find some allegation against Jesus on which a death-sentence could be based;
ὑστερον δὲ προσελθόντες δύο but they failed to find one, though many came forward with false evidence. Finally two men
εἶπαν, Οὗτος ἐφη, Δύναμαι καταλῦσαι τὸν ναὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν οἰκοδομῆσαι. alleged that he had said, 'I can pull down the temple of God, and rebuild it in three days.'
καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, Οὐδὲν ἀποκρίνῃ; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν; At this the High Priest rose and said to him, '
But Jesus kept silence. The High Priest then said, 'By the living God I charge you to tell us: Are you the Messiah, the Son of God ?'

Jesus replied, "The words are yours. But I tell you this: from now on, you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of God and coming on the clouds of heaven.'- hereafter you will see the Son of man Mt.26.64 | Ps.110.1 | Dn.7.13
τότε ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ λέγων, Ἐβλασφήμησεν· τί ἐτι χρείαν ἐχομεν μαρΤύρων; ἰδε νῦν ἠκούσατε τὴν βλασφημίαν· At these words the High Priest tore his robes and exclaimed, 'Blasphemy! Need we call further witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy.
What is your opinion?' 'He is guilty,' they answered; 'he should die.'

Τότε ἐνέπτυσαν εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκολάφισαν αὐτόν, οἱ δὲ ἐράπισαν Then they spat in his face and beat him with their fists;
λέγοντες, Προφήτευσον ἡμῖν, Χριστέ, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σὲ; and others said, as they struck him, 'Now, Messiah, if you are a prophet, tell us who hit you.'

Meanwhile Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard when a serving-maid accosted him and said, "You were there too with Jesus the Galilean.'Peter's Denial of Jesus Mt.26.69-75 | Mk.14.66-72 | Lk.22.56-62 | Jn.18.15-18 | Jn.18.25-27
Peter denied it in face of them all. 'I do not know what you mean', he said.
He then went out to the gateway, where another girl, seeing him, said to the people there, 'This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.'
Once again he denied it, saying with an oath, 'I do not know the man.'
Shortly afterwards the bystanders came up and said to Peter, 'Surely you are another of them; your accent gives you away!'
At this he broke into curses and declared with an oath: 'I do not know the man.' At that moment the cock crew.
And Peter remembered how Jesus had said, 'Before the cock crows you will disown me three times.' He went outside, and wept bitterly.
