12 | et adduxerunt ad Moysen, et Eleazarum sacerdotem, et ad omnem multitudinem filiorum Israël: reliqua autem utensilia portaverunt ad castra in campestribus Moab juxta Jordanem contra Jericho. |
and to Eleazar, preest, and to al the multitude of the sones of Israel. Forsothe thei baren othere thingis perteynynge to vss, to the castels in the feldi places of Moab bisidis Jordan, ayens Jericho. |
And they brought them to Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and to all the multitude of the children of Israel. But the rest of the things for use they carried to the camp on the plains of Moab, beside the Jordan over against Jericho. | The army returns. Nu.31.13-24 |
13 | Egressi sunt autem Moyses et Eleazar sacerdos, et omnes principes synagogæ, in occursum eorum extra castra. |
Moises and Eleazar, preest, and alle the princes of the synagoge, yeden out in to the comyng of hem, with out the castels, that is, of the tabernacle. |
And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the princes of the synagogue went forth to meet them without the camp. | |
14 | Iratusque Moyses principibus exercitus, tribunis, et centurionibus qui venerant de bello, |
And Moises was wrooth to the princes of the oost, to tribunes, and centuriouns, that camen fro batel; |
And Moses being angry with the chief officers of the army, the tribunes, and the centurions that were come from the battle, | |
15 | ait: Cur feminas reservastis? |
and he seide, Whi reserueden ye wymmen? |
Said: Why have you saved the women? | |
16 | nonne istæ sunt, quæ deceperunt filios Israël ad suggestionem Balaam, et prævaricari vos fecerunt in Domino super peccato Phogor, unde et percussus est populus? |
whether it be not these that disseyueden the sones of Israel, at the suggestioun of Balaam, and maden you to do trespas ayens the Lord, on the synne of Phegor, wherfor also the puple was slayn? |
Are not these they, that deceived the children of Israel by the counsel of Balaam, and made you transgress against the Lord by the sin of Phogor, for which also the people was punished? | |
17 | ergo cunctos interficite quidquid est generis masculinis, etiam in parvulis: et mulieres, quæ noverunt viros in coitu, jugulate: |
And therfor sle ye alle men, what euer thing is of male kynde, and litle children; and strangle ye the wymmen that knew men fleischli; |
Therefore kill all that are of the male sex, even of the children: and put to death the women, that have carnally known men. | |
18 | puellas autem et omnes feminas virgines reservate vobis: |
forsothe reserue ye to you damesels, and alle wymmen virgyns, |
But the girls, and all the women that are virgins save for yourselves: | |
19 | et manete extra castra septem diebus. Qui occiderit hominem, vel occisum tetigerit, lustrabitur die tertio et septimo. |
and dwelle ye with out the castels in seuene daies. He that sleeth a man, ether touchith a slayn man, schal be clensid in the thridde and the seuenthe dai; |
And stay without the camp seven days. He that hath killed a man, or touched one that is killed, shall be purified the third day and the seventh day. | |
20 | Et de omni præda, sive vestimentum fuerit, sive vas, et aliquid in utensilia præparatum, de caprarum pellibus, et pilis, et ligno, expiabitur. |
and of al the pray, whether it is clooth, ether vessel, and ony thing maad redi in to thingis perteynynge to vss, of the skynnys and heeris of geet, and of tre, it schal be clensid. |
And of all the spoil, every garment, or vessel, or any thing made for use, of the skins, or hair of goats, or of wood, shall be purified. | |
21 | Eleazar quoque sacerdos ad viros exercitus, qui pugnaverunt, sic locutus est: Hoc est præceptum legis, quod mandavit Dominus Moysi: |
And Eleazar, preest, spak thus to the men of the oost that fouyten, This is the comaundement of the lawe, which the Lord comaundide to Moises, |
Eleazar also the priest spoke to the men of the army, that had fought, in this manner: This is the ordinance of the law, which the Lord hath commanded Moses: | |
22 | aurum, et argentum, et æs, et ferrum, et plumbum, et stannum, |
The gold, and siluer, and bras, and yrun, and tiyn, and leed, and al thing that may passe by flawme, schal be purgid bi fier; |
Gold, and silver, and brass, and iron, and lend, and tin, | |
23 | et omne, quod potest transire per flammas, igne purgabitur: quidquid autem ignem non potest sustinere, aqua expiationis sanctificabitur: |
sotheli what euer thing may not suffre fier, schal be halewid bi the watir of clensyng. |
And all that may pass through the fire, shall be purified by fire, but whatsoever cannot abide the fire, shall be sanctified with the water of expiation: | |
24 | et lavabitis vestimenta vestra die septimo, et purificati postea castra intrabitis. |
And ye schulen waische youre clothis in the seuenthe dai, and ye schulen be clensid; and aftirward ye schulen entre in to the castels of the tabernacle. |
And you shall wash your garments the seventh day, and being purified, you shall afterwards enter into the camp. | |
