14 | Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen in deserto Sinai, dicens: |
And the Lord spak to Moises in the deseert |
And the Lord spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, saying: | Census of the Levites. Nu.3.14-39 |
15 | Numera filios Levi per domos patrum suorum et familias, omnem masculum ab uno mense et supra. |
of Synay, and seide, Noumbre thou the sones of Leuy bi the housis of her fadris, and bi meynees, ech male fro o monethe and aboue. |
Number the sons of Levi by the houses of their fathers and their families, every male from one month and upward. | |
16 | Numeravit Moyses, ut præceperat Dominus, |
Moises noumbride, as the Lord comaundide. |
Moses numbered them as the Lord had commanded. | |
17 | et inventi sunt filii Levi per nomina sua, Gerson et Caath et Merari. |
And the sones of Leuy weren foundun, bi her names, Gerson, and Caath, and Merary; |
And there were found sons of Levi by their names, Gerson and Caath and Merari. | |
18 | Filii Gerson: Lebni et Semei. |
the sones of Gerson weren Lebny, and Semey; |
The sons of Gerson: Lebni and Semei. | |
19 | Filii Caath: Amram et Jesaar, Hebron et Oziel. |
the sones of Caath weren Amram, and Jessaar, Hebron, and Oziel; |
The sons of Caath: Amram, and Jesaar, Hebron and Oziel: | |
20 | Filii Merari: Moholi et Musi. |
and the sones of Merari weren Mooly, and Musi. |

21 | De Gerson fuere familiæ duæ, Lebnitica, et Semeitica: |
Of Gerson weren twei meynees, of Lebny, and of Semei; |
Of Gerson were two families, the Lebnites, and the Semeites: | |
22 | quarum numeratus est populus sexus masculini ab uno mense et supra, septem millia quingenti. |
of whiche the puple of male kynde was noumbrid, fro o monethe and aboue, seuene thousynde and fyue hundrid. |
Of which were numbered, people of the male sex from one month and upward, seven thousand five hundred. | |
23 | Hi post tabernaculum metabuntur ad occidentem, |
These schulen sette tentis aftir the tabernacle at the west, |
These shall pitch behind the tabernacle on the west, | |
24 | sub principe Eliasaph filio Laël. |
vndur the prince Eliasaph, the sone of Jahel. |
Under their prince Eliasaph the son of Lael. | |
25 | Et habebunt excubias in tabernaculo fœderis, |
And thei schulen haue kepyngis in the tabernacle of boond of pees, the tabernacle it silf, and the hilyng therof, the tente which is drawun bifor the yatis of the hilyng of the witnessyng of boond of pees; |
And their charge shall be in the tabernacle of the covenant: | |
26 | ipsum tabernaculum et operimentum ejus, tentorium quod trahitur ante fores tecti fœderis, et cortinas atrii: tentorium quoque quod appenditur in introitu atrii tabernaculi, et quidquid ad ritum altaris pertinet, funes tabernaculi et omnia utensilia ejus. |
and the curteyns of the greet street, also the tente which is hangid in the entryng of the greet street of the tabernacle, and what euer thing perteyneth to the custom of the auter, the cordis of the tabernacle, and al the purtenaunce therof. |
The tabernacle itself and the cover thereof, the hanging that is drawn before the doors of the tabernacle of the covenant, and the curtains of the court: the hanging also that is hanged in the entry of the court of the tabernacle, and whatsoever belongeth to the rite of the altar, the cords of the tabernacle, and all the furniture thereof. | |
27 | Cognatio Caath habebit populos Amramitas et Jesaaritas et Hebronitas et Ozielitas. Hæ sunt familiæ Caathitarum recensitæ per nomina sua. |
The kynrede of Caath schal haue the puplis of Amram, and of Jessaar, and of Ebron, and of Oziel; |
Of the kindred of Caath come the families of the Amramites and Jesaarites and Hebronites and Ozielites. These are the families of the Caathites reckoned up by their names: | |
28 | Omnes generis masculini ab uno mense et supra, octo millia sexcenti habebunt excubias sanctuarii, |
these ben the meynees of Caathitis, noumbrid bi her names, alle of male kynde, fro o monethe and aboue, eiyte thousynde and sixe hundrid. |
All of the male sex from one month and upward, eight thousand six hundred: they shall have the guard of the sanctuary, | |
29 | et castrametabuntur ad meridianam plagam. |
Thei schulen haue kepyngis of the seyntuarie, and schulen sette tentis at the south coost; |
And shall camp on the south side. | |
30 | Princepsque eorum erit Elisaphan filius Oziel: |
and the prince of hem schal be Elisaphan, the sone of Oziel. |
And their prince shall be Elisaphan the son of Oziel: | |
31 | et custodient arcam, mensamque et candelabrum, altaria et vasa sanctuarii, in quibus ministratur, et velum, cunctamque hujuscemodi supellectilem. |
And thei schulen kepe the arke, and the boord, and the candilstike, the auters, and vesselis of the seyntuarie in whiche it is mynystrid, and the veil, and al sich purtenaunce. |
And they shall keep the ark, and the table and the candlestick, the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary, wherewith they minister, and the veil, and all the furniture of this kind. | |
32 | Princeps autem principum Levitarum Eleazar filius Aaron sacerdotis, erit super excubitores custodiæ sanctuarii. |
Sotheli the prince of princis of Leuytis schal be Eleazar, the sone of Aaron, preest; and he schal be on the keperis of the kepyng of the seyntuarie. |
And the prince of the princes of the Levites, Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, shall be over them that watch for the guard of the sanctuary. | |
33 | At vero de Merari erunt populi Moholitæ et Musitæ recensiti per nomina sua: |
And sotheli of Merary schulen be the puplis of Mooli, and of Musi, |
And of Merari are the families of the Moholites, and Musites, reckoned up by their names : | |
34 | omnes generis masculini ab uno mense et supra, sex millia ducenti. |
noumbrid bi her names, alle of male kynde fro o monethe and aboue, sixe thousynde and two hundrid; |
All of the male kind from one month and upward, six thousand two hundred. | |
35 | Princeps eorum Suriel filius Abihaiel: in plaga septentrionali castrametabuntur. |
the prince of hem schal be Suriel, the sone of Abiahiel; thei schulen sette tentis in the north coost. |
Their prince Suriel the son of Abihaiel: they shall camp on the north side. | |
36 | Erunt sub custodia eorum tabulæ tabernaculi et vectes, et columnæ ac bases earum, et omnia quæ ad cultum hujuscemodi pertinent: |
And vndur the kepyng of hem schulen be the tablis of the tabernacle, and the barris, and the pileris, and the foundementis of tho, and alle thingis that perteynen to sich ournyng, |
Under their custody shall be the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars, and the pillars and their sockets, and all things that pertain to this kind of service: | |
37 | columnæque atrii per circuitum cum basibus suis, et paxilli cum funibus. |
and the pileris of the greet street bi cumpas, with her foundementis, and the stakis with coordis. |
And the pillars of the court round about with their sockets, and the pins with their cords. | |
38 | Castrametabuntur ante tabernaculum fœderis, id est, ad orientalem plagam, Moyses et Aaron cum filiis suis, habentes custodiam sanctuarii in medio filiorum Israël. Quisquis alienus accesserit, morietur. |
Forsothe Moises and Aaron with hise sones schulen sette tentis bifor the tabernacle of boond of pees, that is, at the eest coost, and schulen haue the keping of the seyntuarie, in the myddis of the sones of Israel; what euer alien neiyeth, he schal die. |
Before the tabernacle of the covenant, that is to say on the east side, shall Moses and Aaron camp, with their sons, having the custody of the sanctuary, in the midst of the children of Israel. What stranger soever cometh unto it, shall be put to death. | |
39 | Omnes Levitæ, quos numeraverunt Moyses et Aaron juxta præceptum Domini per familias suas in genere masculino a mense uno et supra, fuerunt viginti duo millia. |
Alle the Leuytis, whiche Moises and Aaron noumbriden, bi comaundement of the Lord, bi her meynees, in male kynde, fro o monethe and aboue, were two and twenti thousynd. |
All the Levites, that Moses and Aaron numbered according to the precept of the Lord, by their families, of the male kind from one month and upward, were twenty-two thousand. | |
