1 | Congregatus est igitur omnis Israël ad David in Hebron, dicens: Os tuum sumus, et caro tua. |
Therfor al Israel was gaderid to Dauid in Ebron, and seide, We ben thi boon and thi fleisch; |

2 | Heri quoque et nudiustertius cum adhuc regnaret Saul, tu eras qui educebas, et introducebas Israël: tibi enim dixit Dominus Deus tuus: Tu pasces populum meum Israël, et tu eris princeps super eum. |
also yisterdai and the thridde dai ago, whanne Saul regnede yit on Israel, thou it were that leddist out and leddist in Israel; for thi Lord God seide to thee, Thou schalt fede my puple Israel, and thou schalt be prince on it. |
Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: for the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt; be ruler over them. | |
3 | Venerunt ergo omnes majores natu Israël ad regem in Hebron, et iniit David cum eis fœdus coram Domino: unxeruntque eum regem super Israël, juxta sermonem Domini, quem locutus est in manu Samuel. |
Therfor alle the gretter in birthe of Israel camen to the kyng in Ebron; and Dauid maad with hem a boond of pees bifor the Lord, and thei anoyntiden hym kyng on Israel, bi the word of the Lord, which he spak in the hond of Samuel. |
So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord: and they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel. | |
4 | Abiit quoque David, et omnis Israël in Jerusalem: hæc est Jebus, ubi erant Jebusæi habitatores terræ. |
Therfor Dauid yede, and al Israel, in to Jerusalem; this Jerusalem is Jebus, where Jebuseis enhabiteris of the lond weren. |
And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land. | |
5 | Dixeruntque qui habitabant in Jebus ad David: Non ingredieris huc. Porro David cepit arcem Sion, quæ est civitas David, |
And thei that dwelliden at Jebus seiden to Dauid, Thou schalt not entre hidur. Forsothe Dauid took the hiy tour of Syon, which is the citee of Dauid; |
And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: Thou shalt not come in here. But David took the castle of Sion, which is the city of David. | |
6 | dixitque: Omnis qui percusserit Jebusæum in primis, erit princeps, et dux. Ascendit igitur primus Joab filius Sarviæ, et factus est princeps. |
and he seide, Ech man that sleeth first Jebusei, schal be prince and duyk. Therfor Joab, sone of Saruye, stiede first, and was maad prince. |
And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites, shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general. | |
7 | Habitavit autem David in arce, et idcirco appellata est civitas David. |
Sotheli Dauid dwellide in the hiy tour, and therfor it was clepid the cytee of Dauid; |
And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David. | |
8 | Ædificavitque urbem in circuitu a Mello usque ad gyrum, Joab autem reliqua urbis exstruxit. |
and he bildide the citee in cumpas fro Mello til to the cumpas; forsothe Joab bildide the tother part of the citee. |
And he built the city round about from Mello all round, and Joab built the rest of the city. | |
9 | Proficiebatque David vadens et crescens, et Dominus exercituum erat cum eo. |
And Dauid profitide goynge and wexynge, and the Lord of oostis was with hym. |
And David went on growing and increasing, and the Lord of hosts was with him. | |
