DAVID king of Israel & Judah. 1Chr.11.1-9 | 2Sm.5.1-10
Heri quoque et nudiustertius cum adhuc regnaret Saul, tu eras qui educebas, et introducebas Israël: tibi enim dixit Dominus Deus tuus: Tu pasces populum meum Israël, et tu eris princeps super eum. also yisterdai and the thridde dai ago, whanne Saul regnede yit on Israel, thou it were that leddist out and leddist in Israel; for thi Lord God seide to thee, Thou schalt fede my puple Israel, and thou schalt be prince on it. Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: for the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt; be ruler over them.
Venerunt ergo omnes majores natu Israël ad regem in Hebron, et iniit David cum eis fœdus coram Domino: unxeruntque eum regem super Israël, juxta sermonem Domini, quem locutus est in manu Samuel. Therfor alle the gretter in birthe of Israel camen to the kyng in Ebron; and Dauid maad with hem a boond of pees bifor the Lord, and thei anoyntiden hym kyng on Israel, bi the word of the Lord, which he spak in the hond of Samuel. So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord: and they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel.
Abiit quoque David, et omnis Israël in Jerusalem: hæc est Jebus, ubi erant Jebusæi habitatores terræ. Therfor Dauid yede, and al Israel, in to Jerusalem; this Jerusalem is Jebus, where Jebuseis enhabiteris of the lond weren. And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land.
Dixeruntque qui habitabant in Jebus ad David: Non ingredieris huc. Porro David cepit arcem Sion, quæ est civitas David, And thei that dwelliden at Jebus seiden to Dauid, Thou schalt not entre hidur. Forsothe Dauid took the hiy tour of Syon, which is the citee of Dauid; And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: Thou shalt not come in here. But David took the castle of Sion, which is the city of David.
dixitque: Omnis qui percusserit Jebusæum in primis, erit princeps, et dux. Ascendit igitur primus Joab filius Sarviæ, et factus est princeps. and he seide, Ech man that sleeth first Jebusei, schal be prince and duyk. Therfor Joab, sone of Saruye, stiede first, and was maad prince. And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites, shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general.
Habitavit autem David in arce, et idcirco appellata est civitas David. Sotheli Dauid dwellide in the hiy tour, and therfor it was clepid the cytee of Dauid; And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David.
Ædificavitque urbem in circuitu a Mello usque ad gyrum, Joab autem reliqua urbis exstruxit. and he bildide the citee in cumpas fro Mello til to the cumpas; forsothe Joab bildide the tother part of the citee. And he built the city round about from Mello all round, and Joab built the rest of the city.
Proficiebatque David vadens et crescens, et Dominus exercituum erat cum eo. And Dauid profitide goynge and wexynge, and the Lord of oostis was with hym. And David went on growing and increasing, and the Lord of hosts was with him.
