Eodem tempore dixit Abimelech, et Phicol princeps exercitus ejus, ad Abraham: Deus tecum est in universis quæ agis. In the same tyme Abymelech, and Ficol, prince of his oost, seide to Abraham, God is with thee in alle thingis whiche thou doist; At the same time Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army said to Abraham: God is with thee in all that thou dost. Beersheba - Abraham's agreement with Abimelech. Gn.21.22-34
Jura ergo per Deum, ne noceas mihi, et posteris meis, stirpique meæ: sed juxta misericordiam, quam feci tibi, facies mihi, et terræ in qua versatus es advena. therfore swere thou bi God that thou noye not me, and myn eiris, and my kynrede; but bi the mersi whych Y dide to thee, do thou to me, and to the lond in which thou lyuedist a comelyng. Swear therefore by God, that thou wilt not hurt me, nor my posterity, nor my stock: but according to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land wherein thou hast lived a stranger.
Dixitque Abraham: Ego jurabo. And Abraham seide, Y schal swere. And Abraham said: I will swear.
Et increpavit Abimelech propter puteum aquæ quem vi abstulerunt servi ejus. And he blamyde Abymelech for the pit of watir, which hise seruauntis token awey bi violence. And he reproved Abimelech for a well of water, which his servants had taken away by force.
Responditque Abimelech: Nescivi quis fecerit hanc rem: sed et tu non indicasti mihi, et ego non audivi præter hodie. And Abymelech answerde, I wiste not who dide this thing, but also thou schewidist not to me, and Y herde not outakun to dai. And Abimelech answered: I knew not who did this thing: and thou didst not tell me, and I heard not of it till today.
Tulit itaque Abraham oves et boves, et dedit Abimelech: percusseruntque ambo fœdus. And so Abraham took scheep and oxun, and yaf to Abymalech, and bothe smyten a boond of pees. And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech: and both of them made a league.
Et statuit Abraham septem agnas gregis seorsum. And Abraham settide seuene ewe lambren of the flok asidis half. And Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs of the flock.
Cui dixit Abimelech: Quid sibi volunt septem agnæ istæ, quas stare fecisti seorsum? And Abymelech seide to hym, What wolen these seuene ewe lambren to hem silf, whiche thou madist stonde asidis half? And Abimelech said to him: What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set apart?
At ille: Septem, inquit, agnas accipies de manu mea: ut sint mihi in testimonium, quoniam ego fodi puteum istum. And he seide, Thou schalt take of myn hond seuene ewe lambren, that tho be in to witnessyng to me, for Y diggide this pit. But he said: Thou shalt take seven ewe lambs at my hand: that they may be a testimony for me, that I dug this well.
Idcirco vocatus est locus ille Bersabee: quia ibi uterque juravit. Therfor thilke place was clepid Bersabee, for euere eithir swore there; Therefore that place was called Bersabee: because both of them did swear.
Et inierunt fœdus pro puteo juramenti. and thei maden boond of pees for the pit of an ooth. And they made a league for the well of oath.
Surrexit autem Abimelech, et Phicol princeps exercitus ejus, reversique sunt in terram Palæstinorum. Abraham vero plantavit nemus in Bersabee, et invocavit ibi nomen Domini Dei æterni. Forsothe Abymelech roos, and Ficol, prince of his chyualrie, and thei turneden ayen in to the lond of Palestyns. Sotheli Abraham plauntide a wode in Bersabee, and inwardli clepide there the name of euerlastinge God; And Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army arose and returned to the land of the Palestines. But Abraham planted a grove in Bersabee, and there called upon the name of the Lord God eternal.
Et fuit colonus terræ Palæstinorum diebus multis. and he was an erthetiliere ether a comelynge of the lond of Palestynes in many dayes. And he was a sojourner in the land of the Palestines many days.
