22 | Eodem tempore dixit Abimelech, et Phicol princeps exercitus ejus, ad Abraham: Deus tecum est in universis quæ agis. |
In the same tyme Abymelech, and Ficol, prince of his oost, seide to Abraham, God is with thee in alle thingis whiche thou doist; |
At the same time Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army said to Abraham: God is with thee in all that thou dost. | Beersheba - Abraham's agreement with Abimelech. Gn.21.22-34 |
23 | Jura ergo per Deum, ne noceas mihi, et posteris meis, stirpique meæ: sed juxta misericordiam, quam feci tibi, facies mihi, et terræ in qua versatus es advena. |
therfore swere thou bi God that thou noye not me, and myn eiris, and my kynrede; but bi the mersi whych Y dide to thee, do thou to me, and to the lond in which thou lyuedist a comelyng. |
Swear therefore by God, that thou wilt not hurt me, nor my posterity, nor my stock: but according to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land wherein thou hast lived a stranger. | |
24 | Dixitque Abraham: Ego jurabo. |
And Abraham seide, Y schal swere. |
And Abraham said: I will swear. | |
25 | Et increpavit Abimelech propter puteum aquæ quem vi abstulerunt servi ejus. |
And he blamyde Abymelech for the pit of watir, which hise seruauntis token awey bi violence. |
And he reproved Abimelech for a well of water, which his servants had taken away by force. | |
26 | Responditque Abimelech: Nescivi quis fecerit hanc rem: sed et tu non indicasti mihi, et ego non audivi præter hodie. |
And Abymelech answerde, I wiste not who dide this thing, but also thou schewidist not to me, and Y herde not outakun to dai. |
And Abimelech answered: I knew not who did this thing: and thou didst not tell me, and I heard not of it till today. | |
27 | Tulit itaque Abraham oves et boves, et dedit Abimelech: percusseruntque ambo fœdus. |
And so Abraham took scheep and oxun, and yaf to Abymalech, and bothe smyten a boond of pees. |
And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech: and both of them made a league. | |
28 | Et statuit Abraham septem agnas gregis seorsum. |
And Abraham settide seuene ewe lambren of the flok asidis half. |
And Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs of the flock. | |
29 | Cui dixit Abimelech: Quid sibi volunt septem agnæ istæ, quas stare fecisti seorsum? |
And Abymelech seide to hym, What wolen these seuene ewe lambren to hem silf, whiche thou madist stonde asidis half? |
And Abimelech said to him: What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set apart? | |
30 | At ille: Septem, inquit, agnas accipies de manu mea: ut sint mihi in testimonium, quoniam ego fodi puteum istum. |
And he seide, Thou schalt take of myn hond seuene ewe lambren, that tho be in to witnessyng to me, for Y diggide this pit. |
But he said: Thou shalt take seven ewe lambs at my hand: that they may be a testimony for me, that I dug this well. | |
31 | Idcirco vocatus est locus ille Bersabee: quia ibi uterque juravit. |
Therfor thilke place was clepid Bersabee, for euere eithir swore there; |
Therefore that place was called Bersabee: because both of them did swear. | |
32 | Et inierunt fœdus pro puteo juramenti. |
and thei maden boond of pees for the pit of an ooth. |
And they made a league for the well of oath. | |
33 | Surrexit autem Abimelech, et Phicol princeps exercitus ejus, reversique sunt in terram Palæstinorum. Abraham vero plantavit nemus in Bersabee, et invocavit ibi nomen Domini Dei æterni. |
Forsothe Abymelech roos, and Ficol, prince of his chyualrie, and thei turneden ayen in to the lond of Palestyns. Sotheli Abraham plauntide a wode in Bersabee, and inwardli clepide there the name of euerlastinge God; |
And Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army arose and returned to the land of the Palestines. But Abraham planted a grove in Bersabee, and there called upon the name of the Lord God eternal. | |
34 | Et fuit colonus terræ Palæstinorum diebus multis. |
and he was an erthetiliere ether a comelynge of the lond of Palestynes in many dayes. |
And he was a sojourner in the land of the Palestines many days. | |
