1 35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples when Jesus passed by. 1 36 John looked towards him and said, 'There is the Lamb of God.' 1 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and followed Jesus. 1 38 When he turned and saw them following him, he asked, 'What are you looking for?' They said, 'Rabbi' (which means a teacher), 'where are you staying?' 'Come and see', he replied. 1 39 So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent the rest of the day with him. It was then about four in the afternoon. 1 40 One of the two who followed Jesus after hearing what John said was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 1 41 The first thing he did was to find Some witnesses read: In the morning he found ... his brother Simon. He said to him, 'We have found the Messiah' (which is the Hebrew for 'Christ'). 1 42 He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him, and said, 'You are Simon, son of John. You shall be called Cephas' (that is, Peter, the Rock).
