katapi HOME Luke 23:1-5 - Jesus Brought Before Pilate  Lk.23.1-5 (Jerusalem)- Mt.27.1-14, Mk.15.1-5, Jn.18.28-38 | NEB Contents | notes

23 1 With that the whole assembly rose, and they brought him before Pilate. 23 2 They opened the case against him by saying, 'We found this man subverting our nation, opposing the payment of taxes to Caesar, and claiming to be Messiah, a king.' Or: to be an anointed king. 23 3 Pilate asked him, 'Are you the king of the Jews?' He replied, 'The words are yours.' Or: It is as you say. 23 4 Pilate then said to the chief priests and the crowd, 'I find no case for this man to answer.' 23 5 But they insisted: 'His teaching is causing disaffection among the people all through Judaea. It started from Galilee and has spread as far as this city.'
