14 ¹ ONE SABBATH HE WENT to have a meal in the house of a leading Pharisee; and they were watching him closely. 14 ² There, in front of him, was a man suffering from dropsy. 14 ³ Jesus asked the lawyers and the Pharisees: 'Is it permitted to cure people on the Sabbath or not?' 14 ⁴ They said nothing. So he took the man, cured him, and sent him away. 14 ⁵ Then he turned to them and said, 'If one of you has a donkey Some witnesses read: son. or an ox and it falls into a well, will he hesitate to haul it up on the Sabbath day?' 14 ⁶ To this they could find no reply.
