katapi HOME Luke 9:51-56 - A Samaritan Village Refuses to Receive Jesus  Lk.9.51-56 (Samaria)

9 51 AS THE TIME APPROACHED when he was to be taken up to heaven, he set his face resolutely towards Jerusalem, and sent messengers ahead. 9 52 They set out and went into a Samaritan village to make arrangements for him; 9 53 but the villagers would not have him because he was making for Jerusalem. 9 54 When the disciples James and John saw this they said, 'Lord, may we call down fire from heaven to burn them up Some witnesses add: as Elijah did. ?' 9 55 But he turned and rebuked them, Some witnesses insert: 'You do not know', he said, 'to what spirit you belong; (56) for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them.' 9 56 and they went on to another village.
