katapi HOME Mark 8:14-21 - The Leaven of the Pharisees and of Herod  Mk.8.14-21 (Gennesaret)- Mt.16.5-12 | NEB Contents | notes

8 14 Now they had forgotten to take bread with them; they had no more than one loaf in the boat. 8 15 He began to warn them: 'Beware,' he said, 'be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.' 8 16 They said among themselves, 'It is because we have no bread.' 8 17 Knowing what was in their minds, he asked them, 'Why do you talk about having no bread? Have you no inkling yet? Do you still not understand? Are your minds closed? 8 18 [ Is.6.9-10. ] You have eyes: can you not see? You have ears: can you not hear? Have you forgotten? 8 19 When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many basketfuls of scraps did you pick up?' 'Twelve', they said. 8 20 'And how many when I broke the seven loaves among four thousand?' 8 21 They answered, 'Seven.' He said, 'Do you still not understand?'
