katapi HOME Mark 2:23-28 - Plucking Grain on the Sabbath  Mk.2.23-28 (Galilee)- Mt.12.1-8, Lk.6.1-5 | NEB Contents | notes

2 23 One Sabbath he was going through the cornfields; and his disciples, as they went, began to pluck ears of corn. 2 24 The Pharisees said to him, 'Look, why are they doing what is forbidden on the Sabbath?' 2 25 He answered, 'Have you never read what David did when he and his men were hungry and had nothing to eat? 2 26 He went into the House of God, in the time of Abiathar the High Priest, and ate the sacred bread, though no one but a priest is allowed to eat them, and even gave them to his men.'
2 27 He also said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for the sake of man and not man for the Sabbath: 2 28 therefore the Son of Man is sovereign even over the Sabbath.'
