Psalms

A Psalm of David.

Psalm of Praise.  Psalm 27(v26)

1Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
Yahweh is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2When evildoers assail me, uttering slanders against me,
my adversaries and foes, they shall stumble and fall.

3Though a host encamp against me, my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.

4One thing have I asked of Yahweh, that will I seek after;
that I may dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of Yahweh, and to inquire in his temple.

5For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent, he will set me high upon a rock.

6And now my head shall be lifted up
above my enemies round about me;
and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to Yahweh.

7Hear, O Yahweh, when I cry aloud,
be gracious to me and answer me!
8You have said, "Seek ye my face."
My heart says to you, "Your face, LORD, do I seek."
9Hide not your face from me.

Turn not your servant away in anger,
you who have been my help.
Cast me not off, forsake me not, O God of my salvation!
10For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
but Yahweh will take me up.

11Teach me your way, O Yahweh;
and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.
12Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.

13I believe that I shall see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living!
14Wait for Yahweh;
Be strong, and let your heart take courage;
yea, wait for Yahweh!

This page displays the katapi New Standard Bible as flowing text.
The katapi New Standard Bible is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
