Psalms

A Psalm of David.

A Prayer for Guidance & Protection.  Psalm 25(v24)

1To you, O Yahweh, I lift up my soul.
2O my God, in you I trust,
let me not be put to shame;
let not my enemies exult over me.
3Yea, let none that wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4Make me to know your ways, O Yahweh;
teach me your paths.
5Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long.

6Be mindful of your mercy, O Yahweh,
and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.
7Remember not the sins of my youth, or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness' sake, O Yahweh!

8Good and upright is Yahweh;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10All the paths of Yahweh are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

11For your name's sake, O Yahweh,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12Who is the man that fears Yahweh?
Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.

13He himself shall abide in prosperity,
and his children shall possess the land.
14The friendship of Yahweh is for those who fear him,
and he makes known to them his covenant.
15My eyes are ever toward Yahweh,
for he will pluck my feet out of the net.

16Turn to me, and be gracious to me;
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17Relieve the troubles of my heart,
and bring me out of my distresses.
18Consider my affliction and my trouble,
and forgive all my sins.

19Consider how many are my foes,
and with what violent hatred they hate me.
20Oh guard my life, and deliver me;
let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait for you.

22Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all his troubles.

Notes: This webpage enables you to select-a-version from the Bible versions held on the katapi bible database.
This page displays the katapi New Standard Bible as flowing text.
The katapi New Standard Bible is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
