| 23 | True, it has an air of wisdom, with its forced piety, its self-mortification, and its severity to the body; but it is of no use at all in combating sensuality.

| 3 1 | Were you not raised to life with Christ? Then aspire to the realm above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God, | | Εἰ οὖν συνηγέρθητε τῷ Χριστῷ, τὰ ἀνω ζητεῖτε, οὗ ὁ Χριστός ἐστιν ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ θεοῦ καθήμενος· |

| 2 | and let your thoughts dwell on that higher realm, not on this earthly life. | | τὰ ἀνω φρονεῖτε, μὴ τὰ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς· |

| 3 | I repeat, you died; and now your life lies hidden with Christ in God. | | ἀπεθάνετε γάρ, καὶ ἡ ζωὴ ὑμῶν κέκρυπται σὺν τῷ Χριστῷ ἐν τῷ θεῷ. |

| 4 | When Christ, who is our life, is manifested, then you too will be manifested with him in glory.

| 7 | and in the life you once lived these are the ways you yourselves followed. | | ἐν οἷς καὶ ὑμεῖς περιεπατήσατέ ποτε ὅτε ἐζῆτε ἐν τούτοις. |

| 8 | But now you yourselves must lay aside all anger, passion, malice, cursing, filthy talk—have done with them! | | νυνὶ δὲ ἀπόθεσθε καὶ ὑμεῖς τὰ πάντα, ὀργήν, θυμόν, κακίαν, βλασφημίαν, αἰσχρολογίαν ἐκ τοῦ στόματος ὑμῶν· |

| 9 | Stop lying to one another, now that you have discarded the old nature with its deeds | | μὴ ψεύδεσθε εἰς ἀλλήλους, ἀπεκδυσάμενοι τὸν παλαιὸν ἄνθρωπον σὺν ταῖς πράξεσιν αὐτοῦ, |

| 10 | and have put on the new nature, which is being constantly renewed in the image of its Creator and brought to know God. | | καὶ ἐνδυσάμενοι τὸν νέον τὸν ἀνακαινούμενον εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν κατ' εἰκόνα τοῦ κτίσαντος αὐτόν, |

| 11 | There is no question here of Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, freeman and slave; but Christ is all, and is in all.
| | ὁπου οὐκ ἐνι Ἑλλην καὶ Ἰουδαῖος, περιτομὴ καὶ ἀκροβυστία, βάρβαρος, Σκύθης, δοῦλος, ἐλεύθερος, ἀλλὰ τὰ πάντα καὶ ἐν πᾶσιν Χριστός. |

| 13 | Be forbearing with one another, and forgiving, where any of you has cause for complaint: you must forgive as the Lord forgave you. | | ἀνεχόμενοι ἀλλήλων καὶ χαριζόμενοι ἑαυτοῖς ἐάν τις πρός τινα ἐχῃ μομφήν· καθὼς καὶ ὁ κύριος ἐχαρίσατο ὑμῖν οὑτως καὶ ὑμεῖς· |

| 14 | To crown all, there must be love, to bind all together and complete the whole. | | ἐπὶ πᾶσιν δὲ τούτοις τὴν ἀγάπην, ὁ ἐστιν σύνδεσμος τῆς τελειότητος. |

| 15 | Let Christ's peace be arbiter in your hearts: to this peace you were called as members of a single body. And be filled with gratitude. | | καὶ ἡ εἰρήνη τοῦ Χριστοῦ βραβευέτω ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν, εἰς ἣν καὶ ἐκλήθητε ἐν ἑνὶ σώματι· καὶ εὐχάριστοι γίνεσθε. |

| 16 | Let the message of Christ dwell among you in all its richness. Instruct and admonish each other with the utmost wisdom. Sing thankfully in your hearts to God, Some witnesses read: the Lord. with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. | | ὁ λόγος τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐνοικείτω ἐν ὑμῖν πλουσίως, ἐν πάσῃ σοφίᾳ διδάσκοντες καὶ νουθετοῦντες ἑαυτοὺς ψαλμοῖς, ὑμνοις, ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς ἐν τῇ χάριτι ᾀδοντες ἐν ταῖς κ αρδίαις ὑμῶν τῷ θεῷ· |

| 17 | Whatever you are doing, whether you speak or act, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
| | καὶ πᾶν ὁ τι ἐὰν ποιῆτε ἐν λόγῳ ἢ ἐν ἐργῳ, πάντα ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου Ἰησοῦ, εὐχαριστοῦντες τῷ θεῷ πατρὶ δῖ αὐτοῦ. |

| 22 | Slaves, give entire obedience to your earthly masters, not merely with an outward show of service, to curry favour with men, but with single-mindedness, out of reverence for the Lord. | | Οἱ δοῦλοι, ὑπακούετε κατὰ πάντα τοῖς κατὰ σάρκα κυρίοις, μὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοδουλίᾳ ὡς ἄνθρωπάρεσκοι, ἀλλ' ἐν ἀπλότητι καρδίας, φοβούμενοι τὸν κύριον. |

| 23 | Whatever you are doing, put your whole heart into it, as if you were doing it for the Lord and not for men, | | ὃ ἐὰν ποιῆτε, ἐκ ψυχῆς ἐργάζεσθε, ὡς τῷ κυρίῳ καὶ οὐκ ἀνθρώποις, |

| 24 | knowing that there is a Master who will give you your heritage as a reward for your service. Christ is the Master whose slaves you must be. | | εἰδότες ὅτι ἀπὸ κυρίου ἀπολήμψεσθε τὴν ἀνταπόδοσιν τῆς κληρονομίας. τῷ κυρίῳ Χριστῷ δουλεύετε· |

| 4 1 | Masters, be just and fair to your slaves, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven.
| | Οἱ κύριοι, τὸ δίκαιον καὶ τὴν ἰσότητα τοῖς δούλοις παρέχεσθε, εἰδότες ὅτι καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐχετε κύριον ἐν οὐρανῷ. |

| 2 | Persevere in prayer, with mind awake and thankful heart; | Exhortations Col.4.2-6 | Τῇ προσευχῇ προσκαρτερεῖτε, γρηγοροῦντες ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν εὐχαριστίᾳ, |

| 4 | Pray that I may make the secret plain, as it is my duty to do.

| 5 | Behave wisely towards those outside your own number; use the present opportunity to the full. | | Ἐν σοφίᾳ περιπατεῖτε πρὸς τοὺς ἐξω, τὸν καιρὸν ἐξαγοραζόμενοι. |

| 6 | Let your conversation be always gracious, and never insipid; study how best to talk with each person you meet.
| | ὁ λόγος ὑμῶν πάντοτε ἐν χάριτι, ἀλατι ἠρτυμένος, εἰδέναι πῶς δεῖ ὑμᾶς ἑνὶ ἑκάστῳ ἀποκρίνεσθαι. |
