1 1HERE BEGINS THE GOSPEL of Jesus Christ the Son of God. Some witnesses omit: the Son of God

The Preaching of John the Baptist   Mk.1.1-8 written 45-60ce. Story opens c (Judaea ) | Mt.3.1-12 | Lk.3.1-9 | Jn.1.19-28Ἀρχὴ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ υἱοῦ θεοῦ.
2In the prophet Isaiah it stands written: 'Here is my herald whom I send on ahead of you, and he will prepare your way.- Behold, I send my messenger Mk.1.2 | Mal.3.1Kαθὼς γέγραπται ἐν τῷ Ἠσαΐᾳ τῷ προφήτῃ,

Ἰδοὺ ἀποστέλλω τὸν ἄγγελόν μου πρὸ προσώπου σου,
ὃς κατασκευάσει τὴν ὁδόν
σου·

3A voice crying aloud in the wilderness, "Prepare a way for the Lord; clear a straight path for him."'- the voice of one crying in the wilderness   Mk.1.3 ( ) | Is.40.1φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ,
Ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου,
εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους
αὐτοῦ -
4And so it was that John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness proclaiming a baptism in token of repentance, for the forgiveness of sins,  ἐγένετο Ἰωάννης βαπτίζων ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ κηρύσσων βάπτισμα μετανοίας εἰς ἀφεσιν ἀμαρτιῶν.
5and they flocked to him from the whole Judaean country-side and the city of Jerusalem, and were baptized by him in the River Jordan, confessing their sins.
 καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο πρὸς αὐτὸν πᾶσα ἡ Ἰουδαία χώρα καὶ οἱ Ἱεροσολυμῖται πάντες, καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο ὑπ' αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ ποταμῷ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἀμαρτίας αὐτῶν.
6John was dressed in a rough coat of camel's hair, with a leather belt round his waist, and he fed on locusts and wild honey. καὶ ἦν ὁ Ἰωάννης ἐνδεδυμένος τρίχας καμήλου καὶ ζώνην δερματίνην περὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐσθίων ἀκρίδας καὶ μέλι ἀγριον.
7His proclamation ran: 'After me comes one who is mightier than I. I am not fit to unfasten his shoes.  καὶ ἐκήρυσσεν λέγων, Ἐρχεται ὁ ἰσχυρότερός μου ὀπίσω μου, οὗ οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς κύψας λῦσαι τὸν ἱμάντα τῶν ὑποδημάτων αὐτοῦ·
8I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.'
 ἐγὼ ἐβάπτισα ὑμᾶς ὑδατι, αὐτὸς δὲ βαπτίσει ὑμᾶς ἐν πνεύματι ἀγίῳ.
