27 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

32On their way out they met a man from Cyrene, Simon by name, and pressed him into service to carry his cross.
The Crucifixion of Jesus Mt.27.32-44 | Mk.15.21-32 | Lk.23.26-43 | Jn.19.17-27Ἐξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα· τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἀρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ.
33So they came to a place called Golgotha (which means 'Place of a skull') Καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον Γολγοθᾶ, ὁ ἐστιν Κρανίου τόπος λεγόμενος,
34and there they offered him a draught of wine mixed with gall; but when he had tasted it he would not drink.
- they offered him wine to drink, mingled with gall - but when he tasted it, he would not drink Mt.27.34 | Ps.69.21ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ πιεῖν οἶνον μετὰ χολῆς μεμιγμένον· καὶ γευσάμενος οὐκ ἠθέλησεν πιεῖν.
35After fastening him to the cross they divided his clothes among them by casting lots,- And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots - Mt.27.35 | Ps.22.18σταυρώσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον,
36and then sat down there to keep watch.
37Over his head was placed the inscription giving the charge: 'This is Jesus the king of the Jews.'

38Two bandits were crucified with him, one on his right and the other on his left.
39The passers-by hurled abuse at him: they wagged their heads- And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads Mt.27.39 | Ps.22.7 | Ps.109.25 | Lm.2.15οἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν
40and cried, 'You would pull the temple down, would you, and build it in three days? Come down from the cross and save yourself, if you are indeed the Son of God.'
41So too the chief priests with the lawyers and elders mocked at him: ὁμοίως καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων ἐλεγον,
42'He saved others,' they said, 'but he cannot save himself. King of Israel, indeed! Let him come down now from the cross, and then we will believe him.
43Did he trust in God? Let God rescue him, if he wants him—for he said he was God's Son.'- He trusts in God - let God deliver him now, if he desires him - for he said, 'I am the Son of Mt.27.43 | Ps.22.8πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν, ῥυσάσθω νῦν εἰ θέλει αὐτόν· εἶπεν γὰρ ὅτι Θεοῦ εἰμι υἱός.
44Even the bandits who were crucified with him taunted him in the same way.
