| 11 | And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh and served the Baals; | Israel stops worshipping Yahweh.. Jdg.2.11-23 | וַיַּעֲשׂוּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה וַיַּעַבְדוּ אֶת־הַבְּעָלִים׃ |

| 12 | and they forsook Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; they went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were round about them, and bowed down to them; and they provoked Yahweh to anger. | | וַיַּעַזְבוּ אֶת־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי אֲבֹותָם הַמֹּוצִיא אֹותָם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם וַיֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים מֵאֱלֹהֵי הָעַמִּים אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹותֵיהֶם וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ לָהֶם וַיַּכְעִסוּ אֶת־יְהוָה׃ |

| 13 | They forsook Yahweh, and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. | | וַיַּעַזְבוּ אֶת־יְהוָה וַיַּעַבְדוּ לַבַּעַל וְלָעַשְׁתָּרֹות׃ |
|
| 14 | So the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them; and he sold them into the power of their enemies round about, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies. | | וַיִּחַר־אַף יְהוָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּתְּנֵם בְּיַד־שֹׁסִים וַיָּשֹׁסּוּ אֹותָם וַיִּמְכְּרֵם בְּיַד אֹויְבֵיהֶם מִסָּבִיב וְלֹא־יָכְלוּ עֹוד לַעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי אֹויְבֵיהֶם׃ |

| 15 | Whenever they marched out, the hand of Yahweh was against them for evil, as Yahweh had warned, and as Yahweh had sworn to them; and they were in sore straits. | | בְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר יָצְאוּ יַד־יְהוָה הָיְתָה־בָּם לְרָעָה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה וְכַאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע יְהוָה לָהֶם וַיֵּצֶר לָהֶם מְאֹד׃ |

| 16 | Then Yahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the power of those who plundered them. | | וַיָּקֶם יְהוָה שֹׁפְטִים וַיֹּושִׁיעוּם מִיַּד שֹׁסֵיהֶם׃ |
|
| 17 | And yet they did not listen to their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed down to them; they soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of Yahweh, and they did not do so. | | וְגַם אֶל־שֹׁפְטֵיהֶם לֹא שָׁמֵעוּ כִּי זָנוּ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ לָהֶם סָרוּ מַהֵר מִן־הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר הָלְכוּ אֲבֹותָם לִשְׁמֹעַ מִצְוֹת־יְהוָה לֹא־עָשׂוּ כֵן׃ |

| 18 | Whenever Yahweh raised up judges for them, Yahweh was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for Yahweh was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who afflicted and oppressed them. | | וְכִי־הֵקִים יְהוָה לָהֶם שֹׁפְטִים וְהָיָה יְהוָה עִם־הַשֹּׁפֵט וְהֹושִׁיעָם מִיַּד אֹיְבֵיהֶם כֹּל יְמֵי הַשֹּׁופֵט כִּי־יִנָּחֵם יְהוָה מִנַּאֲקָתָם מִפְּנֵי לֹחֲצֵיהֶם וְדֹחֲקֵיהֶם׃ |

| 19 | But whenever the judge died, they turned back and behaved worse than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them; they did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways. | | וְהָיָה בְּמֹות הַשֹּׁופֵט יָשֻׁבוּ וְהִשְׁחִיתוּ מֵאֲבֹותָם לָלֶכֶת אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים לְעָבְדָם וּלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֹת לָהֶם לֹא הִפִּילוּ מִמַּעַלְלֵיהֶם וּמִדַּרְכָּם הַקָּשָׁה׃ |

| 20 | So the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel; and he said, "Because this people have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not obeyed my voice, | | וַיִּחַר־אַף יְהוָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר יַעַן אֲשֶׁר עָבְרוּ הַגֹּוי הַזֶּה אֶת־בְּרִיתִי אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי אֶת־אֲבֹותָם וְלֹא שָׁמְעוּ לְקֹולִי׃ |

| 21 | I will not henceforth drive out before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died, | | גַּם־אֲנִי לֹא אֹוסִיף לְהֹורִישׁ אִישׁ מִפְּנֵיהֶם מִן־הַגֹּויִם אֲשֶׁר־עָזַב יְהֹושֻׁעַ וַיָּמֹת׃ |
|
| 22 | that by them I may test Israel, whether they will take care to walk in the way of Yahweh as their fathers did, or not." | | לְמַעַן נַסֹּות בָּם אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל הֲשֹׁמְרִים הֵם אֶת־דֶּרֶךְ יְהוָה לָלֶכֶת בָּם כַּאֲשֶׁר שָׁמְרוּ אֲבֹותָם אִם־לֹא׃ |

| 23 | So Yahweh left those nations, not driving them out at once, and he did not give them into the power of Joshua. | | וַיַּנַּח יְהוָה אֶת־הַגֹּויִם הָאֵלֶּה לְבִלְתִּי הֹורִישָׁם מַהֵר וְלֹא נְתָנָם בְּיַד־יְהֹושֻׁעַ׃ ף |
