| 8 | And the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah, saying, | The cause of the Exile. Zch.7.8-14 | וַיְהִי דְּבַר־יְהוָה אֶל־זְכַרְיָה לֵאמֹר׃ |

| 9 | "Thus says Yahweh of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy each to his brother, | | כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות לֵאמֹר מִשְׁפַּט אֱמֶת שְׁפֹטוּ וְחֶסֶד וְרַחֲמִים עֲשׂוּ אִישׁ אֶת־אָחִיו׃ |

| 10 | do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart." | | וְאַלְמָנָה וְיָתֹום גֵּר וְעָנִי אַל־תַּעֲשֹׁקוּ וְרָעַת אִישׁ אָחִיו אַל־תַּחְשְׁבוּ בִּלְבַבְכֶם׃ |

| 11 | But they refused to hearken, and turned a stubborn shoulder, and stopped their ears that they might not hear. | | וַיְמָאֲנוּ לְהַקְשִׁיב וַיִּתְּנוּ כָתֵף סֹרָרֶת וְאָזְנֵיהֶם הִכְבִּידוּ מִשְּׁמֹועַ׃ |

| 12 | They made their hearts like adamant lest they should hear the law and the words which Yahweh of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Yahweh of hosts. | | וְלִבָּם שָׂמוּ שָׁמִיר מִשְּׁמֹועַ אֶת־הַתֹּורָה וְאֶת־הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח יְהוָה צְבָאֹות בְּרוּחֹו בְּיַד הַנְּבִיאִים הָרִאשֹׁנִים וַיְהִי קֶצֶף גָּדֹול מֵאֵת יְהוָה צְבָאֹות׃ |

| 13 | "As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear," says Yahweh of hosts, | | וַיְהִי כַאֲשֶׁר־קָרָא וְלֹא שָׁמֵעוּ כֵּן יִקְרְאוּ וְלֹא אֶשְׁמָע אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאֹות׃ |

| 14 | "and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and the pleasant land was made desolate." | | וְאֵסָעֲרֵם עַל כָּל־הַגֹּויִם אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יְדָעוּם וְהָאָרֶץ נָשַׁמָּה אַחֲרֵיהֶם מֵעֹבֵר וּמִשָּׁב וַיָּשִׂימוּ אֶרֶץ־חֶמְדָּה לְשַׁמָּה׃ ף |
