12 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

12 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,The Discipline of the Lord Hb.12.1-12Τοιγαροῦν καὶ ἡμεῖς, τοσοῦτον ἐχοντες περικείμενον ἡμῖν νέφος μαρΤύρων, ὀγκον ἀποθέμενοι πάντα καὶ τὴν εὐπερίστατον ἀμαρτίαν, δῖ ὑπομονῆς τρέχωμεν τὸν προκείμενον ἡμῖν ἀγω 'να,
2looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
3Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
4In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
5And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons? -

"My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor lose courage when you are punished by him.

- do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord Hb.12.5-6 | Pr.3.11-12καὶ ἐκλέλησθε τῆς παρακλήσεως, ἡτις ὑμῖν ὡς υἱοῖς διαλέγεται,

6For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives."
7It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? εἰς παιδείαν ὑπομένετε· ὡς υἱοῖς ὑμῖν προσφέρεται ὁ θεός· τίς γὰρ υἱὸς ὃν οὐ παιδεύει πατήρ;
8If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
9Besides this, we have had earthly fathers to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? εἶτα τοὺς μὲν τῆς σαρκὸς ἡμῶν πατέρας εἰχομεν παιδευτὰς καὶ ἐνετρεπόμεθα· οὐ πολὺ δὲ μᾶλλον ὑποταγησόμεθα τῷ πατρὶ τῶν πνευμάτων καὶ ζήσομεν;
10For they disciplined us for a short time at their pleasure, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
11For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
12Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees,- Therefore lift your drooping hands and Hb.12.12 | Is.35.3 | Sir.25.23Διὸ τὰς παρειμένας χεῖρας καὶ τὰ παραλελυμένα γόνατα ἀνορθώσατε,

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background. Any mismatches, truncated verses, other mistakes? Please e-mail me.
