8 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

8 1We want you to know, brethren, about the grace of God which has been shown in the churches of Macedonia,Liberal Giving 2Cor.8.1-15Γνωρίζομεν δὲ ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοί, τὴν χάριν τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν δεδομένην ἐν ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Μακεδονίας,
2for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of liberality on their part.
3For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own free will, ὁτι κατὰ δύναμιν, μαρτυρῶ, καὶ παρὰ δύναμιν, αὐθαίρετοι
4begging us earnestly for the favour of taking part in the relief of the saints - μετὰ πολλῆς παρακλήσεως δεόμενοι ἡμῶν τὴν χάριν καὶ τὴν κοινωνίαν τῆς διακονίας τῆς εἰς τοὺς ἀγίους -
5and this, not as we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
6Accordingly we have urged Titus that as he had already made a beginning, he should also complete among you this gracious work.
7Now as you excel in everything - in faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in your love for us - see that you excel in this gracious work also.
8I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine.
9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.
10And in this matter I give my advice: it is best for you now to complete what a year ago you began not only to do but to desire,  καὶ γνώμην ἐν τούτῳ δίδωμι· τοῦτο γὰρ ὑμῖν συμφέρει, οἱτινες οὐ μόνον τὸ ποιῆσαι ἀλλὰ καὶ τὸ θέλειν προενήρξασθε ἀπὸ πέρυσι·
11so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have.
12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he has not.
13I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, οὐ γὰρ ἵνα ἀλλοις ἀνεσις, ὑμῖν θλῖψις· ἀλλ' ἐξ ἰσότητος
14but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality.
15As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack." - He who gathered much had nothing over 2Cor.8.15 | Ex.16.18καθὼς γέγραπται,

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
