1 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

12For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have behaved in the world, and still more toward you, with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God.Postponement of Paul's Visit 2Cor.1.12-2.4Ἡ γὰρ καύχησις ἡμῶν αὑτη ἐστίν, τὸ μαρτύριον τῆς συνειδήσεως ἡμῶν, ὅτι ἐν ἀπλότητι καὶ εἰλικρινείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἐν σοφίᾳ σαρκικῇ ἀλλ' ἐν χάριτι θεοῦ, ἀνεστρά φημεν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ, περισσοτέμως δὲ πρὸς ὑμᾶς.
13For we write you nothing but what you can read and understand; I hope you will understand fully, οὐ γὰρ ἀλλα γράφομεν ὑμῖν ἀλλ' ἢ ἂ ἀναγινώσκετε ἢ καὶ ἐπιγινώσκετε, ἐλπίζω δὲ ὅτι ἑως τέλους ἐπιγνώσεσθε,
14as you have understood in part, that you can be proud of us as we can be of you, on the day of the Lord Jesus.
15Because I was sure of this, I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have a double pleasure; Καὶ ταύτῃ τῇ πεποιθήσει ἐβουλόμην πρότερον πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐλθεῖν, ἵνα δευτέραν χάριν σχῆτε,
16I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and to come back to you from Macedonia and have you send me on my way to Judea.
17Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this? Do I make my plans like a worldly man, ready to say Yes and No at once?  τοῦτο οὖν βουλόμενος μήτι ἀρα τῇ ἐλαφρίᾳ ἐχρησάμην; ἢ ἂ βουλεύομαι κατὰ σάρκα βουλεύομαι, ἵνα ᾖ παρ' ἐμοὶ τὸ Ναὶ ναὶ καὶ τὸ Οὒ οὒ;
18As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. πιστὸς δὲ ὁ θεὸς ὅτι ὁ λόγος ἡμῶν ὁ πρὸς ὑμᾶς οὐκ ἐστιν Ναὶ καὶ Οὐ.
19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we preached among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No; but in him it is always Yes.
20For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why we utter the Amen through him, to the glory of God.
21But it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has commissioned us; ὁ δὲ βεβαιῶν ἡμᾶς σὺν ὑμῖν εἰς Χριστὸν καὶ χρίσας ἡμᾶς θεός,
22he has put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
23But I call God to witness against me - it was to spare you that I refrained from coming to Corinth.
24Not that we lord it over your faith; we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith.
2 1For I made up my mind not to make you another painful visit.
2For if I cause you pain, who is there to make me glad but the one whom I have pained? εἰ γὰρ ἐγὼ λυπῶ ὑμᾶς, καὶ τίς ὁ εὐφραίνων με εἰ μὴ ὁ λυπούμενος ἐξ ἐμοῦ;
3And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all.
4For I wrote you out of much affliction and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to cause you pain but to let you know the abundant love that I have for you.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
