12Now if this is what we proclaim, that Christ was raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead?The Resurrection of the Dead 1Cor.15.12-34Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς κηρύσσεται ὅτι ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγήγερται, πῶς λέγουσιν ἐν ὑμῖν τινες ὅτι ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἐστιν;
13If there be no resurrection, then Christ was not raised; εἰ δὲ ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἐστιν, οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται·
14and if Christ was not raised, then our gospel is null and void, and so is your faith; εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται, κενὸν ἀρα καὶ τὸ κήρυγμα ἡμῶν, κενὴ καὶ ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν,
15and we turn out to be lying witnesses for God, because we bore witness that he raised Christ to life, whereas, if the dead are not raised, he did not raise him. εὑρισκόμεθα δὲ καὶ ψευδομάρτυρες τοῦ θεοῦ, ὅτι ἐμαρτυρήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι ἠγειρεν τὸν Χριστόν, ὃν οὐκ ἠγειρεν εἰπερ ἀρα νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται.
16For if the dead are not raised, it follows that Christ was not raised; εἰ γὰρ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται, οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται·
17and if Christ was not raised, your faith has nothing in it and you are still is in your old state of sin. εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται, ματαία ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν, ἐτι ἐστὲ ἐν ταῖς ἀμαρτίαις ὑμῶν.
18It follows also that those who have died within Christ's fellowship are utterly lost. ἀρα καὶ οἱ κοιμηθέντες ἐν Χριστῷ ἀπώλοντο.
19If it is for this life only that Christ has given us hope, Or: If it is only an uncertain hope that our life in Christ has given us ... we of all men are most to be pitied.
 εἰ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ταύτῃ ἐν Χριστῷ ἠλπικότες ἐσμὲν μόνον, ἐλεεινότεροι πάντων ἀνθρώπων ἐσμέν.
20But the truth is, Christ was raised to life—the firstfruits of the harvest of the dead. Νυνὶ δὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται ἐκ νεκρῶν, ἀπαρχὴ τῶν κεκοιμημένων.
21For since it was a man who brought death into the world, a man also brought resurrection of the dead. ἐπειδὴ γὰρ δῖ ἀνθρώπου θάνατος, καὶ δῖ ἀνθρώπου ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν·
22As in Adam all men die, so in Christ all will be brought to life; ὡσπερ γὰρ ἐν τῷ Ἀδὰμ πάντες ἀποθνῄσκουσιν, οὑτως καὶ ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ πάντες ῳοποιηθήσονται.
23but each in his own proper place: Christ the firstfruits, and afterwards, at his coming, those who belong to Christ. ἑκαστος δὲ ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ τάγματι· ἀπαρχὴ Χριστός, ἐπειτα οἱ τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ·
24Then comes the end, when he delivers up the kingdom to God the Father, after abolishing every kind of domination, authority, and power. εἶτα τὸ τέλος, ὁταν παραδιδῷ τὴν βασιλείαν τῷ θεῷ καὶ πατρί, ὁταν καταργήσῃ πᾶσαν ἀρχὴν καὶ πᾶσαν ἐξουσίαν καὶ δύναμιν.
25For he is destined to reign until God has put all enemies under his feet; δεῖ γὰρ αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν ἀχρι οὗ θῇ πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ.
26and the last enemy to be abolished is death. Or: Then at the end, when ... power (for he ... feet), the last enemy, death, will be abolished. ἐσχατος ἐχθρὸς καταργεῖται ὁ θάνατος·
27Scripture says, 'He has put all things in subjection under his feet.' But in saying 'all things', it clearly means to exclude God who subordinates them;- For God has put all things in subjection 1Cor.15.27 | Ps.8.6πάντα γὰρ ὑπέταξεν ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ. ὁταν δὲ εἰπῃ ὅτι πάντα ὑποτέτακται, δῆλον ὅτι ἐκτὸς τοῦ ὑποτάξαντος αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα.
28and when all things are thus subject to him, then the Son himself will also be made subordinate to God who made all things subject to him, and thus God will be all in all.
 ὁταν δὲ ὑποταγῇ αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα, τότε καὶ αὐτὸς ὁ υἱὸς ὑποταγήσεται τῷ ὑποτάξαντι αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα, ἵνα ᾖ ὁ θεὸς τὰ πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν.
29Again, there are those who receive baptism on behalf of the dead. Why should they do this? If the dead are not raised to life at all, what do they mean by being baptized on their behalf?
 Ἐπεὶ τί ποιήσουσιν οἱ βαπτιζόμενοι ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν; εἰ ὁλως νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται, τί καὶ βαπτίζονται ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν;
30And we ourselves—why do we face these dangers hour by hour? τί καὶ ἡμεῖς κινδυνεύομεν πᾶσαν ὡραν;
31Every day I die: I swear it by my pride in you, my brothers—for in Christ Jesus our Lord I am proud of you. καθ' ἡμέραν ἀποθνῄσκω, νὴ τὴν ὑμετέραν καύχησιν, ἀδελφοί, ἣν ἐχω ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν.
32If, as the saying is, I 'fought wild beasts' at Ephesus, what have I gained by it? Or: If, as men do, I had fought wild beasts at Ephesus, what good would it be to me? Or: If I had been in no better case than one fighting beasts in the arena at Ephesus, what good would it be to me? If the dead are never raised to life, 'let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die'.

Φάγωμεν καὶ πίωμεν,
αὔριον γὰρ ἀποθνῄσκομεν.

33Make no mistake: 'Bad company is the ruin of a good character.' μὴ πλανᾶσθε·

Φθείρουσιν ἠθη χρηστὰ ὁμιλίαι κακαί.

34Come back to a sober and upright life and leave your sinful ways. There are some who know nothing of God; to your shame I say it.
 ἐκνήψατε δικαίως καὶ μὴ ἀμαρτάνετε, ἀγνωσίαν γὰρ θεοῦ τινες ἐχουσιν· πρὸς ἐντροπὴν ὑμῖν λαλῶ.
35But, you may ask, how are the dead raised? In what kind of body?The Resurrection Body 1Cor.15.35-58Ἀλλὰ ἐρεῖ τις, Πῶς ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροί; ποίῳ δὲ σώματι ἐρχονταὶ;
36How foolish! The seed you sow does not come to life unless it has first died; ἀφρων, σὺ ὃ σπείρεις οὐ ζῳοποιεῖται ἐὰν μὴ ἀποθάνῃ·
37and what you sow is not the body that shall be, but a naked grain, perhaps of wheat, or of some other kind; καὶ ὃ σπείρεις, οὐ τὸ σῶμα τὸ γενησόμενον σπείρεις ἀλλὰ γυμνὸν κόκκον εἰ τύχοι σίτου ἠ τινος τῶν λοιπῶν·
38and God clothes it with the body of his choice, each seed with its own particular body. ὁ δὲ θεὸς δίδωσιν αὐτῷ σῶμα καθὼς ἠθέλησεν, καὶ ἑκάστῳ τῶν σπερμάτων ἰδιον σῶμα.
39All flesh is not the same flesh: there is flesh of men, flesh of beasts, of birds, and of fishes—all different. οὐ πᾶσα σὰρξ ἡ αὐτὴ σάρξ, ἀλλὰ ἀλλη μὲν ἀνθρώπων, ἀλλη δὲ σὰρξ κτηνῶν, ἀλλη δὲ σὰρξ πτηνῶν, ἀλλη δὲ ἰχθύων.
40There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies; and the splendour of the heavenly bodies is one thing, the splendour of the earthly, another. καὶ σώματα ἐπουράνια, καὶ σώματα ἐπίγεια· ἀλλὰ ἑτέρα μὲν ἡ τῶν ἐπουρανίων δόξα, ἑτέρα δὲ ἡ τῶν ἐπιγείων.
41The sun has a splendour of its own, the moon another splendour, and the stars another, for star differs from star in brightness. ἀλλη δόξα ἡλίου, καὶ ἀλλη δόξα σελήνης, καὶ ἀλλη δόξα ἀστέρων· ἀστὴρ γὰρ ἀστέρος διαφέρει ἐν δόξῃ.
42So it is with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown in the earth as a perishable thing is raised imperishable. Οὑτως καὶ ἡ ἀνάστασις τῶν νεκρῶν. σπείρεται ἐν φθορᾷ, ἐγείρεται ἐν ἀφθαρσίᾳ·
43Sown in humiliation, it is raised in glory; sown in weakness, it is raised in power; σπείρεται ἐν ἀτιμίᾳ, ἐγείρεται ἐν δόξῃ· σπείρεται ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ, ἐγείρεται ἐν δυνάμει·
44sown as an animal body, it is raised as a spiritual body.

If there is such a thing as an animal body, there is also a spiritual body.

 σπείρεται σῶμα ψυχικόν, ἐγείρεται σῶμα πνευματικόν. εἰ ἐστιν σῶμα ψυχικόν, ἐστιν καὶ πνευματικόν.
45It is in this sense that Scripture says, 'The first man, Adam, became an animate being', whereas the last Adam has become a life-giving spirit.- The first man Adam became a living being 1Cor.15.45 | Gn.1.7οὑτως καὶ γέγραπται, Ἐγένετο ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος Ἀδὰμ εἰς ψυχὴν ζῶσαν· ὁ ἐσχατος Ἀδὰμ εἰς πνεῦμα ζῳοποιοῦν.
46Observe, the spiritual does not come first; the animal body comes first, and then the spiritual. ἀλλ' οὐ πρῶτον τὸ πνευματικὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ ψυχικόν, ἐπειτα τὸ πνευματικόν.
47The first man was made 'of the dust of the earth': the second man is from heaven. ὁ πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος ἐκ γῆς χοϊκός, ὁ δεύτερος ἄνθρωπος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ.
48The man made of dust is the pattern of all men of dust, and the heavenly man is the pattern of all the heavenly. οἷος ὁ χοϊκός, τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ χοϊκοί, καὶ οἷος ὁ ἐπουράνιος, τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ ἐπουράνιοι·
49As we have worn the likeness of the man made of dust, so we shall wear the likeness of the heavenly man. καὶ καθὼς ἐφορέσαμεν τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ χοϊκοῦ, φορέσομεν καὶ τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ ἐπουρανίου.
50What I mean, my brothers, is this: flesh and blood can never possess the kingdom of God, and the perishable cannot possess immortality. Τοῦτο δέ φημι, ἀδελφοί, ὅτι σὰρξ καὶ αἷμα βασιλείαν θεοῦ κληρονομῆσαι οὐ δύναται, οὐδὲ ἡ φθορὰ τὴν ἀφθαρσίαν κληρονομεῖ.
51Listen! I will unfold a mystery: we shall not all die, but we shall all be changed ἰδοὺ μυστήριον ὑμῖν λέγω· πάντες οὐ κοιμηθησόμεθα, πάντες δὲ ἀλλαγησόμεθα,
52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet-call. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will rise immortal, and we shall be changed. ἐν ἀτόμῳ, ἐν ῥιπῇ ὀφθαλμοῦ, ἐν τῇ ἐσχάτῃ σάλπιγγι· σαλπίσει γάρ, καὶ οἱ νεκροὶ ἐγερθήσονται ἀφθαρτοι, καὶ ἡμεῖς ἀλλαγησόμεθα.
53This perishable being must be clothed with the imperishable, and what is mortal must be clothed with immortality. δεῖ γὰρ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀφθαρσίαν καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀθανασίαν.
54And when Some witnesses insert: our perishable nature has been clothed with the imperishable, and ... our mortality has been clothed with immortality, then the saying of Scripture will come true: 'Death is swallowed up; victory is won!'- Death is swallowed up in victory 1Cor.15.54 | Is.25.8ὁταν δὲ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται ἀφθαρσίαν καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται ἀθανασίαν, τότε γενήσεται ὁ λόγος ὁ γεγραμμένος,

Kατεπόθη ὁ θάνατος εἰς νῖκος.

55'O Death, where is your victory? O Death, where is your sting?'- O death, where is thy victory? 1Cor.15.55 | Hs.13.14ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ νῖκοσ;
ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ κέντρον;
56The sting of death is sin, and sin gains its power from the law; τὸ δὲ κέντρον τοῦ θανάτου ἡ ἀμαρτία, ἡ δὲ δύναμις τῆς ἀμαρτίας ὁ νόμος·
57but, God be praised, he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. τῷ δὲ θεῷ χάρις τῷ διδόντι ἡμῖν τὸ νῖκος διὰ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.
58Therefore, my beloved brothers, stand firm and immovable, and work for the Lord always, work without limit, since you know that in the Lord your labour cannot be lost.
 Ὥστε, ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί, ἑδραῖοι γίνεσθε, ἀμετακίνητοι, περισσεύοντες ἐν τῷ ἐργῳ τοῦ κυρίου πάντοτε, εἰδότες ὅτι ὁ κόπος ὑμῶν οὐκ ἐστιν κενὸς ἐν κυρίῳ.
