12 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

12For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.One Body with Many Members 1Cor.12.12-31Καθάπερ γὰρ τὸ σῶμα ἑν ἐστιν καὶ μέλη πολλὰ ἐχει, πάντα δὲ τὰ μέλη τοῦ σώματος πολλὰ ὀντα ἑν ἐστιν σῶμα, οὑτως καὶ ὁ Χριστός·
13For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body - Jews or Greeks, slaves or free - and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
14For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," that would not make it any less a part of the body.
16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," that would not make it any less a part of the body.
17If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? εἰ ὁλον τὸ σῶμα ὀφθαλμός, ποῦ ἡ ἀκοή; εἰ ὁλον ἀκοή, ποῦ ἡ ὀσφρησις;
18But as it is, God arranged the organs in the body, each one of them, as he chose.
19If all were a single organ, where would the body be? εἰ δὲ ἦν τὰ πάντα ἓν μέλος, ποῦ τὸ σῶμὰ;
20As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.
21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you," nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."
22On the contrary, the parts of the body which seem to be weaker are indispensable,
23and those parts of the body which we think less honourable we invest with the greater honour, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, καὶ ἂ δοκοῦμεν ἀτιμότερα εἶναι τοῦ σώματος, τούτοις τιμὴν περισσοτέραν περιτίθεμεν, καὶ τὰ ἀσχήμονα ἡμῶν εὐσχημοσύνην περισσοτέραν ἐχει,
24which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving the greater honour to the inferior part, τὰ δὲ εὐσχήμονα ἡμῶν οὐ χρείαν ἐχει.
25that there may be no discord in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
26If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honoured, all rejoice together.
27Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
28And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues.
29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? μὴ πάντες ἀπόστολοὶ; μὴ πάντες προφῆταὶ; μὴ πάντες διδάσκαλοὶ; μὴ πάντες δυνάμεις;
30Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? Love 1Cor.12.30-13.13μὴ πάντες χαρίσματα ἐχουσιν ἰαμάτων; μὴ πάντες γλώσσαις λαλοῦσιν; μὴ πάντες διερμηνεύουσιν;
31But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
