11 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

2I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I have delivered them to you.The Covering of Women's Heads 1Cor.11.2-16Ἐπαινῶ δὲ ὑμᾶς ὅτι πάντα μου μέμνησθε καὶ καθὼς παρέδωκα ὑμῖν τὰς παραδόσεις κατέχετε.
3But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.
4Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonours his head, πᾶς ἀνὴρ προσευχόμενος ἢ προφητεύων κατὰ κεφαλῆς ἐχων καταισχύνει τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ·
5but any woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled dishonours her head - it is the same as if her head were shaven.
6For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her wear a veil.
7For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.
8(For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.
9Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.)
10That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head, because of the angels.
11(Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman;
12for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.)
13Judge for yourselves; is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?  ἐν ὑμῖν αὐτοῖς κρίνατε· πρέπον ἐστὶν γυναῖκα ἀκατακάλυπτον τῷ θεῷ προσεύχεσθαὶ;
14Does not nature itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is degrading to him, οὐδὲ ἡ φύσις αὐτὴ διδάσκει ὑμᾶς ὅτι ἀνὴρ μὲν ἐὰν κομᾷ ἀτιμία αὐτῷ ἐστιν,
15but if a woman has long hair, it is her pride? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
16If any one is disposed to be contentious, we recognize no other practice, nor do the churches of God.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
