2 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

17But if you call yourself a Jew and rely upon the law and boast of your relation to GodThe Jews and the Law Ro.2.17-3.8Εἰ δὲ σὺ Ἰουδαῖος ἐπονομάζῃ καὶ ἐπαναπαύῃ νόμῳ καὶ καυχᾶσαι ἐν θεῷ
18and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed in the law, καὶ γινώσκεις τὸ θέλημα καὶ δοκιμάζεις τὰ διαφέροντα κατηχούμενος ἐκ τοῦ νόμου,
19and if you are sure that you are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
20a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth - παιδευτὴν ἀφρόνων, διδάσκαλον νηπίων, ἐχοντα τὴν μόρφωσιν τῆς γνώσεως καὶ τῆς ἀληθείας ἐν τῷ νόμῳ -
21you then who teach others, will you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal?  ὁ οὖν διδάσκων ἑτερον σεαυτὸν οὐ διδάσκεις; ὁ κηρύσσων μὴ κλέπτειν κλέπτεις;
22You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?  ὁ λέγων μὴ μοιχεύειν μοιχεύεις; ὁ βδελυσσόμενος τὰ εἰδωλα ἱεροσυλεῖς;
23You who boast in the law, do you dishonour God by breaking the law?  ὃς ἐν νόμῳ καυχᾶσαι, διὰ τῆς παραβάσεως τοῦ νόμου τὸν θεὸν ἀτιμάζεις;
24For, as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." - The name of God is blasphemed Ro.2.24 | Is.52.5 | Eze.36.20τὸ γὰρ ὄνομα τοῦ θεοῦ δι' ὑμᾶς βλασφημεῖται ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, καθὼς γέγραπται.
25Circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law; but if you break the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision.
26So, if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the precepts of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? ἐὰν οὖν ἡ ἀκροβυστία τὰ δικαιώματα τοῦ νόμου φυλάσσῃ, οὐχ ἡ ἀκροβυστία αὐτοῦ εἰς περιτομὴν λογισθήσεταὶ;
27Then those who are physically uncircumcised but keep the law will condemn you who have the written code and circumcision but break the law.
28For he is not a real Jew who is one outwardly, nor is true circumcision something external and physical.
29He is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart, spiritual and not literal. His praise is not from men but from God.
3 1Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision?  Τί οὖν τὸ περισσὸν τοῦ Ἰουδαίου, ἢ τίς ἡ ὠφέλεια τῆς περιτομῆς;
2Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews are entrusted with the oracles of God.
3What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God?  τί γὰρ εἰ ἠπίστησάν τινες; μὴ ἡ ἀπιστία αὐτῶν τὴν πίστιν τοῦ θεοῦ καταργήσεὶ;
4By no means! Let God be true though every man be false, as it is written,

"That you may be justified in your words,
and prevail when you are judged."

- That thou mayest be justified in thy words Ro.3.4 | Ps.51.4μὴ γένοιτο· γινέσθω δὲ ὁ θεὸς ἀληθής, πᾶς δὲ ἄνθρωπος ψεύστης, καθὼς γέγραπται,

5But if our wickedness serves to show the justice of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.)
6By no means! For then how could God judge the world?  μὴ γένοιτο· ἐπεὶ πῶς κρινεῖ ὁ θεὸς τὸν κόσμον;
7But if through my falsehood God's truthfulness abounds to his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner? εἰ δὲ ἡ ἀλήθεια τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῷ ἐμῷ ψεύσματι ἐπερίσσευσεν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ, τί ἐτι κἀγὼ ὡς ἀμαρτωλὸς κρίνομαὶ;
8And why not do evil that good may come? - as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
