| 5 | Philip came down to a city in Samaria and began proclaiming the Messiah to them. | | Φίλιππος δὲ κατελθὼν εἰς τὴν πόλιν τῆς Σαμαρείας ἐκήρυσσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Χριστόν. |

| 6 | The crowds, to a man, listened eagerly to what Philip said, when they heard him and saw the miracles that he performed. | | προσεῖχον δὲ οἱ ὀχλοι τοῖς λεγομένοις ὑπὸ τοῦ Φιλίππου ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐν τῷ ἀκούειν αὐτοὺς καὶ βλέπειν τὰ σημεῖα ἂ ἐποίει· |

| 8 | and there was great joy in that city.
| | ἐγένετο δὲ πολλὴ χαρὰ ἐν τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ. |

| 9 | A man named Simon had been in the city for some time, and had swept the Samaritans off their feet with his magical arts, claiming to be someone great. | | Ἀνὴρ δέ τις ὀνόματι Σίμων προϋπῆρχεν ἐν τῇ πόλει μαγεύων καὶ ἐξιστάνων τὸ ἐθνος τῆς Σαμαρείας, λέγων εἶναί τινα ἑαυτὸν μέγαν, |

| 10 | All of them, high and low, listened eagerly to him. 'This man', they said, 'is that power of God which is called "The Great Power".' | | ᾧ προσεῖχον πάντες ἀπὸ μικροῦ ἑως μεγάλου λέγοντες, Οὗτός ἐστιν ἡ δύναμις τοῦ θεοῦ ἡ καλουμένη Μεγάλη. |

| 11 | They listened because they had for so long been carried away by his magic. | | προσεῖχον δὲ αὐτῷ διὰ τὸ ἱκανῷ χρόνῳ ταῖς μαγείαις ἐξεστακέναι αὐτούς. |

| 12 | But when they came to believe Philip with his good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, men and women alike. | | ὅτε δὲ ἐπίστευσαν τῷ Φιλίππῳ εὐαγγελιζομένῳ περὶ τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοῦ ὀνόματος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ἐβαπτίζοντο ἀνδρες τε καὶ γυναῖκες. |

| 13 | Even Simon himself believed, and was baptized, and thereupon was constantly in Philip's company. He was carried away when he saw the powerful signs and miracles that were taking place.
| | ὁ δὲ Σίμων καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπίστευσεν, καὶ βαπτισθεὶς ἦν προσκαρτερῶν τῷ Φιλίππῳ, θεωρῶν τε σημεῖα καὶ δυνάμεις μεγάλας γινομένας ἐξίστατο. |

| 14 | The apostles in Jerusalem now heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God. They sent off Peter and John, | | Ἀκούσαντες δὲ οἱ ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις ἀπόστολοι ὅτι δέδεκται ἡ Σαμάρεια τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ ἀπέστειλαν πρὸς αὐτοὺς Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην, |

| 15 | who went down there and prayed for the converts, asking that they might receive the Holy Spirit. | | οἱτινες καταβάντες προσηύξαντο περὶ αὐτῶν ὁπως λάβωσιν Πνεῦμα ἀγιον· |

| 16 | For until then the Spirit had not come upon any of them. They had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus, that and nothing more. | | οὐδέπω γὰρ ἦν ἐπ' οὐδενὶ αὐτῶν ἐπιπεπτωκός, μόνον δὲ βεβαπτισμένοι ὑπῆρχον εἰς τὸ ὀνομα τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ. |

| 17 | So Peter and John laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
| | τότε ἐπετίθεσαν τὰς χεῖρας ἐπ' αὐτούς, καὶ ἐλάμβανον Πνεῦμα ἀγιον. |

| 18 | When Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money | | ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Σίμων ὅτι διὰ τῆς ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν τῶν ἀποστόλων δίδοται τὸ Πνεῦμα, προσήνεγκεν αὐτοῖς χρήματα |

| 19 | and said, 'Give me the same power too, so that when I lay my hands on anyone, he will receive the Holy Spirit.' | | λέγων, Δότε κἀμοὶ τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην ἵνα ᾧ ἐὰν ἐπιθῶ τὰς χεῖρας λαμβάνῃ Πνεῦμα ἀγιον. |

| 20 | Peter replied, 'Your money go with you to damnation, because you thought God's gift was for sale! | | Πέτρος δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, Τὸ ἀργύριόν σου σὺν σοὶ εἰη εἰς ἀπώλειαν, ὅτι τὴν δωρεὰν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐνόμισας διὰ χρημάτων κτᾶσθαι. |

| 21 | You have no part nor lot in this, for you are dishonest with God. | | οὐκ ἐστιν σοι μερὶς οὐδὲ κλῆρος ἐν τῷ λόγῳ τούτῳ, ἡ γὰρ καρδία σου οὐκ ἐστιν εὐθεῖα ἐναντι τοῦ θεοῦ. |

| 22 | Repent of this wickedness and pray the Lord to forgive you for imagining such a thing. | | μετανόησον οὖν ἀπὸ τῆς κακίας σου ταύτης, καὶ δεήθητι τοῦ κυρίου εἰ ἀρα ἀφεθήσεταί σοι ἡ ἐπίνοια τῆς καρδίας σου· |

| 23 | I can see that you are doomed to taste the bitter fruit and wear the fetters of sin.' Literally: you are for gall of bitterness and a fetter of unrighteousness. | | εἰς γὰρ χολὴν πικρίας καὶ σύνδεσμον ἀδικίας ὁρῶ σε ὀντα. |

| 24 | Simon answered, 'Pray to the Lord for me yourselves and ask that none of the things you have spoken of may fall upon me.'
| | ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Σίμων εἶπεν, Δεήθητε ὑμεῖς ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὁπως μηδὲν ἐπέλθῃ ἐπ' ἐμὲ ὧν εἰρήκατε. |

| 25 | And so, after giving their testimony and speaking the word of the Lord, they took the road back to Jerusalem, bringing the good news to many Samaritan villages on the way.
| | Οἱ μὲν οὖν διαμαρτυράμενοι καὶ λαλήσαντες τὸν λόγον τοῦ κυρίου ὑπέστρεφον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα, πολλάς τε κώμας τῶν Σαμαριτῶν εὐηγγελίζοντο. |
