14 1 | 'Set your troubled hearts at rest. Trust in God always; trust also in me. | Jesus the Way to the Father Jn.14.1-14 (Jerusalem) | Μὴ ταρασσέσθω ὑμῶν ἡ καρδία· πιστεύετε εἰς τὸν θεόν, καὶ εἰς ἐμὲ πιστεύετε. |
2 | There are many dwelling-places in my Father's house; if it were not so I should have told you; for I am going there on purpose to prepare a place for you. Or: if it were not so, should I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
3 | And if I go and prepare a place for you, I shall come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am you may be also; | | καὶ ἐὰν πορευθῶ καὶ ἑτοιμάσω τόπον ὑμῖν, πάλιν ἐρχομαι καὶ παραλήμψομαι ὑμᾶς πρὸς ἐμαυτόν, ἵνα ὁπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ καὶ ὑμεῖς ἦτε. |
4 | and my way there is known to you.' Some witnesses read: also. You know where I am going and you know the way. |
5 | Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'
6 | Jesus replied, 'I am the way; I am the truth and I am life; no one comes to the Father except by me.
7 | 'If you knew me you would know my Father too. Some witnesses read: If you know me you will know my Father too. From now on you do know him; you have seen him.' |
8 | Philip said to him, 'Lord, show us the Father and we ask no more.' |
9 | Jesus answered, 'Have I been all this time with you, Philip, and you still do not know me? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. Then how can you say, "Show us the Father?"
10 | Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? I am not myself the source of the words I speak to you: it is the Father who dwells in me doing his own work. |
11 | Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else accept the evidence of the deeds themselves. |
12 | In truth, in very truth I tell you, he who has faith in me will do what I am doing; and he will do greater things still because I am going to the Father.
13 | Indeed anything you ask in my name I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 | If you ask Some witnesses insert: me. anything in my name I will do it.
