9 New English Bible (New Testament) Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

9 1AS HE WENT on his way Jesus saw a man blind from his birth.The Healing of a Man Born Blind Jn.9.1-12 (Jerusalem)Καὶ παράγων εἶδεν ἄνθρωπον τυφλὸν ἐκ γενετῆς.
2His disciples put the question, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents? Why was he born blind?' καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες, Ῥαββί, τίς ἡμαρτεν, οὗτος ἢ οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ, ἵνα τυφλὸς γεννηθῇ;
3'It is not that this man or his parents sinned,' Jesus answered; 'he was born blind that God's power might be displayed in curing him.
4While daylight lasts we Some witnesses read: I must carry on the work of him who sent me, night comes, when no one can work.
5While I am in the world I am the light of the world.'
6With these words he spat on the ground and made a paste with the spittle; he spread it on the man's eyes,
7and said to him, 'Go and wash in the pool of Siloam.' (The name means 'sent'.) The man went away and washed, and when he returned he could see.
8His neighbours and those who were accustomed to see him begging said, 'Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?' Οἱ οὖν γείτονες καὶ οἱ θεωροῦντες αὐτὸν τὸ πρότερον ὅτι προσαίτης ἦν ἐλεγον, Οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ καθήμενος καὶ προσαιτῶν;
9Others said, 'Yes, this is the man.' Others again said, 'No, but it is someone like him.'
10The man himself said, 'I am the man.' They asked him, 'How were your eyes opened?' ἐλεγον οὖν αὐτῷ, Πῶς οὖν ἠνεῴχθησάν σου οἱ ὀφθαλμοί;
11He replied, 'The man called Jesus made a paste and smeared my eyes with it, and told me to go to Siloam and wash. I went and washed, and gained my sight.'
12'Where is he?' they asked. He answered, 'I do not know.'
