| 30 | I cannot act by myself; I judge as I am bidden, and my sentence is just, because my aim is not my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

| 31 | 'If I testify on my own behalf, that testimony does not hold good. | | ἐὰν ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ ἐμαυτοῦ, ἡ μαρτυρία μου οὐκ ἐστιν ἀληθής· |

| 32 | There is another who bears witness for me, and I know that his testimony holds. | | ἀλλος ἐστὶν ὁ μαρτυρῶν περὶ ἐμοῦ, καὶ οἶδα ὅτι ἀληθής ἐστιν ἡ μαρτυρία ἣν μαρτυρεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ. |

| 33 | Your messengers have been to John; you have his testimony to the truth. | | ὑμεῖς ἀπεστάλκατε πρὸς Ἰωάννην, καὶ μεμαρΤύρηκεν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ· |

| 34 | Not that I rely on human testimony, but I remind you of it for your own salvation. | | ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ παρὰ ἀνθρώπου τὴν μαρτυρίαν λαμβάνω, ἀλλὰ ταῦτα λέγω ἵνα ὑμεῖς σωθῆτε. |

| 35 | John was a lamp, burning brightly, and for a time you were ready to exult in his light. | | ἐκεῖνος ἦν ὁ λύχνος ὁ καιόμενος καὶ φαίνων, ὑμεῖς δὲ ἠθελήσατε ἀγαλλιαθῆναι πρὸς ὡραν ἐν τῷ φωτὶ αὐτοῦ. |

| 36 | But I rely on a testimony higher than John's. There is enough to testify that the Father has sent me, in the works my Father gave me to do and to finish—the very works I have in hand. | | ἐγὼ δὲ ἐχω τὴν μαρτυρίαν μείζω τοῦ Ἰωάννου· τὰ γὰρ ἐργα ἂ δέδωκέν μοι ὁ πατὴρ ἵνα τελειώσω αὐτά, αὐτὰ τὰ ἐργα ἂ ποιῶ, μαρτυρεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ ὅτι ὁ πατήρ με ἀπέσταλ κεν· |

| 37 | This testimony to me was given by the Father who sent me, although you never heard his voice, or saw his form. | | καὶ ὁ πέμψας με πατὴρ ἐκεῖνος μεμαρτύρηκεν περὶ ἐμοῦ. οὐτε φωνὴν αὐτοῦ πώποτε ἀκηκόατε οὐτε εἶδος αὐτοῦ ἑωράκατε, |

| 38 | But his word has found no home in you, for you do not believe the one whom he sent. | | καὶ τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐχετε ἐν ὑμῖν μένοντα, ὅτι ὃν ἀπέστειλεν ἐκεῖνος τούτῳ ὑμεῖς οὐ πιστεύετε. |

| 39 | You study the scriptures diligently, supposing that in having them you have eternal life; yet, although their testimony points to me, | | ἐραυνᾶτε τὰς γραφάς, ὅτι ὑμεῖς δοκεῖτε ἐν αὐταῖς ζωὴν αἰώνιον ἐχειν· καὶ ἐκεῖναί εἰσιν αἱ μαρτυροῦσαι περὶ ἐμοῦ· |

| 40 | you refuse to come to me for that life.
| | καὶ οὐ θέλετε ἐλθεῖν πρός με ἵνα ζωὴν ἐχητε. |

| 41 | 'I do not look to men for honour, | | Dόξαν παρὰ ἀνθρώπων οὐ λαμβάνω, |

| 42 | But with you it is different, as I know well, for you have no love for God in you. | | ἀλλὰ ἐγνωκα ὑμᾶς ὅτι τὴν ἀγάπην τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἐχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς. |

| 43 | I have come accredited by my Father, and you have no welcome for me; if another comes self-accredited you will welcome him. | | ἐγὼ ἐλήλυθα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ οὐ λαμβάνετέ με· ἐὰν ἀλλος ἐλθῃ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τῷ ἰδίῳ, ἐκεῖνον λήμψεσθε. |

| 44 | How can you have faith so long as you receive honour from one another, and care nothing for the honour that comes from him who alone is God? | | πῶς δύνασθε ὑμεῖς πιστεῦσαι, δόξαν παρὰ ἀλλήλων λαμβάνοντες καὶ τὴν δόξαν τὴν παρὰ τοῦ μόνου θεοῦ οὐ ζητεῖτὲ |

| 45 | Do not imagine that I shall be your accuser at the Father's tribunal. Your accuser is Moses, the very Moses on whom you have set your hope. | | μὴ δοκεῖτε ὅτι ἐγὼ κατηγορήσω ὑμῶν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα· ἐστιν ὁ κατηγορῶν ὑμῶν Μωϋσῆς, εἰς ὃν ὑμεῖς ἠλπίκατε. |

| 46 | If you believed Moses you would believe what I tell you, for it was about me that he wrote. | | εἰ γὰρ ἐπιστεύετε Μωϋσεῖ, ἐπιστεύετε ἂν ἐμοί, περὶ γὰρ ἐμοῦ ἐκεῖνος ἐγραψεν. |

| 47 | But if you do not believe what he wrote, how are you to believe what I say?'
| | εἰ δὲ τοῖς ἐκείνου γράμμασιν οὐ πιστεύετε, πῶς τοῖς ἐμοῖς ῥήμασιν πιστεύσετὲ; |
