5 katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE Passage New Testament in Greek (UBS.Ed.26)

5 1After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.The Healing at the Pool Jn.5.1-18 (Jerusalem)Μετὰ ταῦτα ἦν ἑορτὴ τῶν Ἰουδαίων, καὶ ἀνέβη Ἰησοῦς εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα.
2Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes.
3In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame, paralysed.
4
5One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years.
6When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?"  τοῦτον ἰδὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς κατακείμενον, καὶ γνοὺς ὅτι πολὺν ἠδη χρόνον ἐχει, λέγει αὐτῷ, Θέλεις ὑγιὴς γενέσθαὶ;
7The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another steps down before me."
8Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your pallet, and walk."
9And at once the man was healed, and he took up his pallet and walked.

Now that day was the sabbath.

10So the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for you to carry your pallet."
11But he answered them, "The man who healed me said to me, 'Take up your pallet, and walk.'
12They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your pallet, and walk?'"  ἠρώτησαν αὐτόν, Τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ εἰπών σοι, Ἆρον καὶ περιπάτεὶ;
13Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.
14Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you."
15The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.
16And this was why the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did this on the sabbath.
17But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working still, and I am working."
18This was why the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God.

Notes: This page displays passages from the katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE.
The katapi NEW STUDY BIBLE is a very light revision of the RSV. The changes are: (1) In places where 'the LORD', 'O LORD' occurs in the RSV, (it represents the tetragrammaton - YHWH - which is in the hebrew text), I have used the name 'Yahweh'.
(2) I have removed the quotation marks and hyphens that were used in so many names in the RSV as an aid to correct pronunciation. This now brings it in line with all other English versions, and makes any word-search more accurate.
(3) I have changed all (I hope!) of the RSV archaic language sections to modern.

The katapi New Study Bible reference section displays links to parallel passages, and to direct quotations by New Testament authors to Old Testament passages. Quotations of OT passages by NT authors can in most cases be viewed within their context of the OT passage as a whole, with the quoted text displayed, against a subdued background.
