| 2 | and the chief priests and the doctors of the law were trying to devise some means of doing away with him; for they were afraid of the people.
| | καὶ ἐζήτουν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὸ πῶς ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν, ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν. |

| 3 | Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the Twelve; | | Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Σατανᾶς εἰς Ἰούδαν τὸν καλούμενον Ἰσκαριώτην, ὀντα ἐκ τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ τῶν δώδεκα· |

| 4 | and Judas went to the chief priests and officers of the temple police to discuss ways and means of putting Jesus into their power. | | καὶ ἀπελθὼν συνελάλησεν τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ στρατηγοῖς τὸ πῶς αὐτοῖς παραδῷ αὐτόν. |

| 5 | They were greatly pleased and undertook to pay him a sum of money. | | καὶ ἐχάρησαν καὶ συνέθεντο αὐτῷ ἀργύριον δοῦναι. |

| 6 | He agreed, and began to look out for an opportunity to betray him to them without collecting a crowd.
| | καὶ ἐξωμολόγησεν, καὶ ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν ἀτερ ὀχλου αὐτοῖς. |
